The worst day of Shelley's life was the day she met David. He ripped her off in every possible way. When you truly love someone you'd do everything you can to try and save them. You'd want as much help as you could get from those who offered to try and resuscitate her. His refusal to allow friends and responders the chance to revive her tells me he wanted her dead. He didn't want her revived to tell people what he had done.

I knew David prior to him meeting Shelly. His dive shop may not have been financially successful due his stupidity, but it was certainly very popular. He was quiet & unassuming. I specifically remember his sailboat (because it had a fireplace in the cabin). He was living on it at the time. A few of us went out for a late afternoon sail & we anchored near some lobster pots. He & a friend dove off the boat & retrieved the lobsters which we cooked on the boat & ate for dinner. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but later wondered if they were his pots or they had stolen them.

@@gamingbutter5768 When out sailing it's common to come across lobster pots, but we leave them alone because it's someone's livelihood. In this case, there was never a mention of them being "his pots". When we came upon them, he just threw out anchor & he another guy dove off to retrieve them. Once they got the lobsters out, we sailed a distance away before tossing the anchor again to prepare them. If they were his pots, one can assume he would've mentioned it + why sail such a distance away to cook them?

PADI rules do not allow for you to separate from your dive 'buddy', it is strictly prohibited. You must stay in visual contact with your buddy at all times, no exceptions. So, when he returned to the boat asking where she was, he is immediately guilty of at least negligence causing death. Unless they were previously known to break that rule. Actually, I believe it is the #1 rule. Because everyone carries an extra breather, so if you have an air problem, there is air available. Basically, both apparatus would have to fail at the same time for both divers to get into trouble. If he comes flying out of the water, 'Help! Help! She's stuck and panicking' that is what should be happening. To come up casually and ask if they have seen her, is like, wtf? You! are the only one that should know that. Like a teen walking to the store with their 3 yr old sister, and returning alone, 'Um anyone see her?'... It's like , 'no, and you're a terrible fkn person and liability, wtf?!', right. No way. You need to have that answer, or you're not to be trusted. With that being the case, Idk how his wishes were being observed during the emergency. The boat captain, and their friends. They should have detained him, and separated him from the decision making, and turned him over to the police ion shore. They should make that decision, the second he returns without her. That's why they have these certifications, and laws saying tour operators cannot let people dive without being certified, etc. He looks so harmless, but think about what it would take to kill someone like this. He has to attack her, rip equipment from her face, and hold her down there, for 2 or 3 mins while she held her breath, looking at him, begging, and he planned it, no doubt. That is a fkng monster. Peace

I HATE that the judge was responsible for screwing this up because that just hightened his narcissism thinking he got away with it. Actually he was dumb as hell. Literally everything he did from the moment he "supposedly" swam away from Shelley wreaked of guilt. He couldnt have been more obvious. Interesting both he and his brother both were killers. I wanted to say I would love to do a deep dive into that subject BUT...under the circumstances. Normal people would try to advance their skills set, job, etc. and not depend on a woman. If further down the marriage something happens, that's the a different story as marriage is also to support one another. It does not mean to marry a brokee which is a clear sign they don't have their life together. At least get a job if you realize your business fails...

You will never get me to dive. Nope never. I’ve snorkeled and that was enough for me. Just hearing myself breathe panicked me at the start. I can imagine panicking and pulling off my gear or ending up with the bends because I rushed to the surface. This isn’t the first case where a spouse (a husband specifically) has allegedly killed his wife while on a scuba diving trip. There was another case where I recall where this newlywed couple were on a scuba diving cruise and the new husband claimed to be an “certified expert rescue diver “ and his wife was a beginner level diver. Guess who didn’t make it back up after the first dive and guess who didn’t help rescue her? Pretty suspicious that guy. I believe Dr. Grande covered that case too. I will snorkel and I enjoyed going out on our sailboat before we sold it a few years ago, l otherwise I am happy to remain on land.

I’m watching this having just arrived today for a seaside break. I think I might not try diving as an activity!

@Dr. Grande If you read this hello good sir 🙂 The main reason i wrote you sir, is about navigating your videos. The videos page needs a search for your specific features which can be added to the videos tab. You are so prolific it's great , but it feels like I'm looking for a subsection in a hard copy of an encyclopedia without a list of contents 😅✌️😇. These videos are great. I'll only preface my past by saying it was bad enough that i was emancipated at 16 and handed a check at 18 and thrown into the world (we should raise the age people receive large sums to 21 since the prefrontal cortex is still developing). I feel behind about 15 years but in 14 months i start my doctorate into biomedical research, i have minors in sociology emphasis on deviant behavior, psychology in behavioral development, and counseling. It started as coping to understand what happened, but it changed into going into medicine/med research but h finished a bachelor's in clinical Dietetics and the the social science minors to better understand when to refer a patient to the appropriate specialist. Apologies for writing so much. Your videos help my panic attacks. When looking at a case, i start with you before going to a video summaries to follow the progression. Your channel is great, I'm considering Patreon, i hope you have a good day. 🙂

Can you analyze the case of the 12 year old girl who stabbed her brother to death in Oklahoma? Best regards.

While it's possible she did panic and rip off her own mask, I think diving equipment usually allows you to share air with someone who has run out or lost their mouth piece. They were together, so he could have easily shared his air with her long enough to bring her to the surface. I do believe he did rip her mask off though, but even if he hadn't, he neglected to save her which is still a crime.

Many of the cases on this channel involve a spouse/partner who either renders minimal assistance to their partner in distress, then denies them further help when emergency medical care arrives. My question is why do the emergency medic team allow the partner to block them from delivering life-saving care? They don't know that the partner/friend has POA or not. They should just administer the care for the injured person's survival.

It would be interesting to know what the first wife had to say about him. Of course people often keep quiet out of fear.

This reminds me of the case of the honeymooning couple in Australia. The groom killed the bride while on a dive trip. What he didn’t know is that she hadn’t changed her insurance policy to make him beneficiary. He was deported to Alabama after serving a year in Australia. The case was dismissed by a judge in Alabama for “lack of evidence.” Perhaps, Dr. Grande, you can look into this case. I’d like to know your opinion. The victim was Tina Watson and she died on October 22, 2003.

People who are terrible with finances will never come out on the winning end of receiving a huge amount of money. They will mess it up quickly, as always. I'm glad his business went belly up again.

Why did that initial trial judge give those instructions? Was there other cases she presided over which her instructions were questionable and is she still a practicing judge today?

I've heard that some people can get narked at 80 feet, but that's extremely rare. Also, even with an 80 ft^3 tank, she would have had at least an hour of air. This makes no sense.
