When I do a complete practice of pranayama exactly I feel the same way that you are describing the chakras.
@ericfontaine19976 жыл бұрын
Thankyou Forrest. I've been essentially working on the muscle contraction/awareness techniques for a while now. Good to have an explanation that is essentially aligned with what i have been experimenting with. Using these techniques you described, I can bring awareness quickly to chakras 1,2,3 and 5....chakras 4 and 6 take more effort/focus. These 2 seem to be more subtle for me. I like the "ka" explanation/technique for the 5th chakra. I kind of use the "ka" technique on chakra 5 and extend it lower to bring a similar sensation to chakra 4, bringing my awareness there. Similarly, i use the "ka" technique on chakra 5 and extend it upward to bring a similar sensation to chakra 6, bringing my awareness there. When i have my awareness in these chakras, it is sort of a subtle magnetic feeling of a pulling out the back of my spine at each chakra locations. Note: I became better a locating the 5th chakra when i was first learning ujjayi pranayama. A youtube video explaining ujjayi technique suggested that i imagine i am holding a mirror in front of my mouth and i exhale with a "ha" sound/breath like I'm trying to fog up the mirror. This easily brings attention to back of the throat/neck. 💚

Another great video. I am confused that there is no 7th chakra, every book I have, all my teachings suggest a crown charka. Say What? So what is the 7th chakra? Are you right and all those new age books on my shelf are wrong? Whew, luckily I never got that 7 charka system tattooed on my forearm. So does it just represent a final joining with the divine and not an energy system in the body? BTW your information in Hacking the Universe on Breath States and peripheral vision has been super useful. I also am enjoying how you are blending HRV with my understanding of balancing the energy. As a Chiropractor and Nurse practitioner, I can really get behind this approach, the neurology and anatomy make this ancient system really come to life.
@ForrestKnutson5 жыл бұрын
You have it correct, Dr. Stokes! Gopi Krishna was very clear that the old tantric systems would only speak of 6 chakras (earlier than that they would speak of 4), and that only the New Age systems began considering the crown as part of the chakra system. So, he said, it is a dividing line between true systems, and their contemporary repackaging. This lines up perfectly with Lahiri Mahasaya's original kriya yoga teachings. ...So glad you are using the Breath States and Expansion exercises!! So glad you're enjoying the anatomical approach!

@ForrestKnutson6 жыл бұрын
I would like to make a video about that. It is a little difficult, as there are a wide range of kundalini experiences that can take place. I suppose I can at least start the conversation. There are also states within the Right Hippocampus where we are suspended in space. The Hippocampus is spacial perception, so when that is activated, the sense of space can be profoundly affected. Greetings Forrest, I have a question for you. I was initiated into Kriya Yoga by a nun whose Guru was Paramahamsa Hariharananda. From him the Sahasrara (7th) chakra at the fontanel is of prime importance. The thing is that I have found sayings from the ones who were taught by Yogananda and now you that the 6th chakra is the one to focus on. This has brought me a bit of confucion and doubt since apparently Hariharananda was initiated into Kriya yoga by Sri Yukteswar and were taught the higher kriyas by Yogananda and Sanyal Bhupendranath (a disciple of Sri Yukteswar). What do you have to say about this and what do you think has happened here? I know I am not the only one caught in this seeming difference in teaching of Kriya Yoga and I'd love a response. A sincere thank you for your videos and your prescence on the internet. I am very grateful for it. /NST
@ForrestKnutson5 жыл бұрын
NST! Such an important question! I was recently speaking with an advanced practitioner of taichi who awakened his kundalini through it. He was taught only into the heart. His teacher wouldn't even teach him anything higher. That he'd have to experiment on his own. You see this clearly in the Gita (though cryptically) that this body only (medulla and below) is for war (the action of repeated kriya breaths). Heaven (the players above the medulla) never take first part in the war. They are affected as a consequence only. ... So, this friend of mine thought he'd experiment by breathing through the fontanel for a few hours or so. He felt incredible!! And then he was deeply sick for days. The energies are so overpowering it takes time to balance and assimilate them. ...Personally, I feel I may have opened a center in the front of the brain, which was tortuous at one point. It took me literally 8 years to feel totally balanced with that activity. ... So a number of these lines experimented with variations of kriya, it seems, and then the variation became the norm. Who can blame a little experimentation? The danger comes when 600 kiryas are done in one sitting or one day this way. Then we run an incredible risk as we are literally playing with heavenly fire. In the original system there are a number of fail-safes set in place. Doing kriya at the medulla and below is one of them.
@kantamasters5 жыл бұрын
My Guru is Swami Yukteswar. I have been told that he never met Hariharananda. I am certain he did not intend for Hari. to take possession of the Puri ashram. If you read accounts by Satyananda you will know this as well.

Thank You , Forrest , Will you be able to divulge the name/address of the Ashram you learnt Kriya ? I am looking for a guru , and looks like the place you’ve learnt has taught you well. Thank you 🙏

Yes! I'm planning on some videos about this. You might have to wait a little bit for those. Until then, you can reach me at thatyogiguy@gmail.com

Chant OM into the feeling over and over again. Turn off the story of it for a bit and only feel the feeling. That's what you chant into. 🤗

@@Aleksandrpajic then just take some long breaths. Pray and cry to the Higher self. Take a nap and try again. Or go for a walk in nature. Take off your shoes and ground if you can.

Ah, good feedback. So, you weren't able to find your chakras using this video?
@seddd5 жыл бұрын
@@ForrestKnutson No I dont know where the energy is going or coming from all I feel is the physical sensation of contracting muscles. I also dont know if the chakras are actually located in the spine or thats just what they call a "kshetram"

@@seddd It's definitely a process, and not a one time experiment. As I've come to see them, they are reflections of the brain. I've spoken with a neuroscientist on this, and he agrees with me. If you've ever seen Lahiri Mahasaya's depiction of the chakras, it shows exactly that. So, by learning to affect the mental projections of the brain, we affect the brain itself.

@@seddd you're welcome, and I will be doing other videos on this subject with different ways to think about the chakras that may work better for you.
