Rode a DT50 (brand new) an RD125 and an RD250 back in the 80's. I actually preferred the kitted race tuned RD125 to the bigger 250 and the 125 was a stunning looking bike to look at back then.

@@mototoki To be honest a standard RG500 is not really all that - they are quite under powered (but quite straight forward to sort that out) along with questionable wheel/tire sizes and some very 80's suspension. If you look at the photo of mine (Brands pit lane) on my channel banner you'll see its quite different from the standard bike. I think there are still a few public videos of it being raced on my channel from many years ago when I was shockingly bad/slow on track (I'm much better now!lol). For many reasons its not turned a wheel since 2015. Will hopefully be back on the road within a month or two for some testing and then will use it on track again.

@@mototoki Absolutely - brakes, suspension and tires were of their time! I do think the RG500 does have this reputation as a super fast/powerful two stroke when the reality is a totally standard one has ~75bhp (press bikes at the time were tuned to ~100bhp). Do you still have to mix 16:1 ratio oil to petrol on these (fairly modern) two strokes?
@mototoki Жыл бұрын
That’s tricky to answer. On the TZR it alters the amount of oil dependent on rpm and throttle opening. It’s quite a cool system and avoids the high rpm / throttle close nip ups that are not uncommon at the end of the straight! I’m not sure what the ratio range it, I just keep the oil tank topped up!!!

@mototoki Жыл бұрын
Esso (apart from a couple of areas) is ethanol free according to their website. I believe V-Power is too, but as it's not advertised by Shell as such, it may be a bit random. Actually I just checked Esso and they have taken down the statement, so I guess V-power is the only gamble? Here's what it did say - "The majority of unleaded 95 Octane petrol sold in the UK contains up to 5% ethanol as required under the Government’s Renewable Transport Fuels Obligation (RTFO). There is currently no requirement for renewable fuel (such as ethanol) to be present in super unleaded (97 and 99 grade petrol). Esso super unleaded petrol (Synergy Supreme+ Unleaded 97 and Synergy Supreme+ 99 ) is ethanol free (except in Devon, Cornwall, the Teesside area and Scotland). We would therefore advise anyone who has concerns about the presence of ethanol in petrol to use Synergy Supreme+ - providing they do not fill up in Devon or Cornwall, the Teesside area or Scotland."

@@mototoki Hi guys , after spending all weekend researching and even talking to staff at the garage I’m convinced that the Esso Synergy Supreme+ Unleaded 97 and Synergy Supreme+ 99 are definitely not ethanol free in uk and you cannot get ethanol free anywhere in the uk out the pump at any petrol stations at this point in time !!

First I wouldn't run it, because gearbox oil is the least issue here, it can also suck in air which can make the bike run real lean & seize :( The work is quite a lot, probably north of £500, many guys do this themselves and involves splitting the cases. If you don't fancy that jump on rdlccrazy or pure2strokespirit.net/forums/index.php or 2T biker forum and they might know of somewhere near you.
