The '66-'67 Fairlane was one of the best looking cars Ford ever made. Several of my friends had these when I was in high school. One was a factory XL four speed red with Cragar rims. Oh, for the good 'ol days!

Had a 67 500 XL Convertible with floor shift C4 automatic and Moss Green paint and Olive interior. Black fabric top on it with hydraulic folding into a well behind the back seat. Got my drivers license on that car back in 76. Hallicrafters HE-20-C CB radio (you needed crystals from Radio Shack to set the actual channels so the channel selector was in letters not numbers) and American flag waving on the 9 foot whip antenna. I still miss that car. 289 V8. You could also order them in a 302 back then. Sold new in 67 for 3,800 dollars. Less than 3,000 XL convertibles were made in 67. The 500 GT model was even rarer. The GT had a round ornament in the grille. The only visible difference between the 66 and 67 were different tail lights. 66 were sunken lenses like the Galaxies had and the 67 tail lights were outward lenses. So you look at the rear to tell which one you are looking at.

My uncle had one he bought brand new that had a 427 and a top loader 4 speed in it. It was a screw up on the assembly line or in shipping as he had ordered it with a 390 and had paid for it up front and didn’t even know it wasn’t a 390 until he stopped at my other uncles house to show it to him and popped the hood and it didn’t look right so my other uncle started looking at the paperwork and saw 427 on it. It was a nice bonus over what he had ordered. Unfortunately his brother-in-law borrowed it and totaled it out when it got away from him and rolled it

the low deck Windsor is nice, but this year has room for a tall deck--that means 377 to 427 cid displacement without the weight of the FE--even header clearance against the shock towers. wish this was a "no kill" junkyard, even with the bondo in the fender and rust in the roof pillars it would be worth tooling around in

Nobody just abandoned a fair lane inside A salvage Yard without a reason either it was in a fender bender and get some major beyond repair damage or the engine blew up or it was a marriage dispute. Perhaps they were getting a divorce and that was the only thing of true value that he had and she took it thinking she could sell it for a lot of money and ended up getting whatever she could at the salvage yard and he’s probably watching this right now bawling his eyes out knowing his prize Possession is being parted out And there’s nothing he can do because he couldn’t afford to buy the car back living in an apartment with a dead end job eating TV dinners probably

What a waste.. my favorite year, love the stacked headlights and the semi-fastback look.. same with the 65/6 Galaxie. That was probably someone's pride and joy and they died and the family wanted nothing to do with it and sent it off to be crushed instead of putting in the effort to sell it to someone that'd love it... sadly it happens all the time. Those rims were like $1800 back when I was in high school.. Billet Specialties you saw them in all the Street Rodder/Hot Rod Magazine etc in about 2000-2004. My 69 Ranchero GT that was my first car had air shocks on it.. they didn't really help when I brought the Cleveland, FMX, and a welder home from Yuba City.. that front end was floating so bad we couldn't do more than 45 down the highway and that was still scary. You talking about little British cars.. there's a 64 Austin FX4 (little black cab) for sale in Davis for $750.. I want it so bad.. that thing would be SICK with a 302/5 spd and good suspension.. but they were FWD stock.. V6 swap could be a thing too, I know how fast those can go.. (150 in a 99 Olds :D)

Up here in the rust belt of Minnesota a lot of car guys would not only pay big bucks for that Fairlane, but to give a bit more incentive for the deal to be made, some of them would throw in their first born and their wife for a couple of weeks because up here that car would have been rusted away half way up the side but would still run perfectly. Engines here can last 250K to 300K if maintained…. Even cars from the 50’s and 60’s.

Wow! I had a '66 XL 500 2dr HT, 390 car. Manual steering and brakes, FMX auto. In our local junkyard, Bigfoot Auto Salvage because the owner was 6'9" and sported a size 21 foot so naturally, was barefooted always. Anyway there was a '68 Galaxie Alabama Hwy Patrol car with an Police Interceptor 428 and C-6 that had come to FL for reasons unknown and got T-Boned while there. For $300 and several weekends of labor, this high school boy got the Galaxie and enough f-100 9 inch with Trac-lok and bigger brake goodies to whip up a formidable teenaged streeter. Craig, you should make one of your Galaxies right hand drive. I did it for a 69 Camaro that was being shipped overseas for this car builder I worked for. You definitely have the skills. The hardest part was cutting the dash up and making it look stock on the right. It's unique and people will break there necks. You need a rack for RH drive. To bad you couldn't save that Fairlane, sad to see it get crushed.✌

We had to ship it in pieces to different addresses, LS engine, aftermarket chassis, and body, then everything would go to one place for assembly. It was sketchy but something with the laws. ✌

Lee Iococa called Shelby to come out of car retirement to help him at Chrysler. Iococa and Shelby was the reason for the team up in the 60’s at Ford. GLH Omni and Daytona were worked on by Shelby but not to the extent he worked with ford. Shelby tuned on the engines but his name would be on it. I think the turbos were all on him. I’m not one hundred percent sure. Shelby’s Chrysler days were very short. The Dakota is what people want with the Shelby name. Even though the fairings flew off.

MAKE a NASCAR Replica and use it as a track car. Or sell it as a track car. I built one about 10 years ago and it was easy to do and unlike a restoration , you get rid of most of the unneeded parts. You can sell the unused parts and make your money back Track/race cars don't need a title to sell.

You said Fairlane’ Galaxies and Torino’s .... all the same ? The Galaxy was its entire life span from 1959 into the 1970’s a FULL-FRAME body on frame design ... the Fairlane ( in the mid to late 60’s ) was derived from the Mustang , which was derived from a 1962 Falcon , and yes the Torino up until 1971 .... was a UNIT-BODY design .... Fairlane and Galaxy don’t share any thing body ( design ) related .

All of Ford's compact, intermediate and pony cars share many mechanical parts. None have relationship to Galaxie. Actually the '67 Mustang borrowed heavily from larger '66 Fairlane, were first of this chassis to get a production line big block. Yeah the '64 Thunderbolt was first but those were outsourced to Dearborn Steel Tubing. The '66-'70 Falcons share same basic chassis as Fairlane/Torino. I once swapped a 351 from '69 Torino GT into '67 Falcon, everything interchanged.

Man that is a solid car! That baby would make a crazy nice street rod. Drop an FE 390 with a C6 in there and a nine inch rear end and you’re stylin!

My oldest boy I bought a Shelby Daytona with the 2.2 Mitsubishi.... It was such a POS... When it died he worked on it for a couple days ....when he couldn't figure it out I went over to look it over... That POS Mitsubishi had a distributor that drove off a gear in the center of the crank.... When I was checking it out I pulled the cap and had him crank it...It cranked...but no rotor movement.. initially I thought it sheared a roll pin on the gear on the distributor shaft....NOPE.... The phuquing crank was two piece keyed together on the distributor drive gear....the crank sheared in 2

Craig, I shit you not...in 1980 I bought a beautiful Florida 67 Fairlane GT 390 hipo 4 speed (I live in Michigan) for only $400... Like a dumb ass I never looked under it. It was a coastal car obviously.. it ran beautiful.... But when I drove it home it was all over the road. "No worries" I thought, "front end must be shot"..... Dude,. I got that phuquer home and got it in the air....the sub frame rails were rotted ...the fronts were separated from floors and ready to break from firewall, in the rear the shackles we're ready to punch into the trunk. No repop stuff then. It was honestly worth it. The 390 hipo went into a F100

I had a 67 Fairlane ,made it a super nice drag car on the street ,with a 302 4speed ,eventually a 460 auto made it in but it broke the "frame " in the front near the door hinges, I ended up selling it to a close friend who repaired the damage and rust ,,, the repair was good but the "frame" broke again , he sold it to a drag racer up north ,,he put the body on a pro race car, the floor and unibody were too weak to use . Those cars rust where you don't want ..

I think you should have bought the whole car. It would have been worth saving. You can buy the missing parts new. '67 was the last good year.

Yes they did have a king Cobra that was like a 77 or 78. And also the air shocks on the Fairlane was a really common thing in the 70s and early 80s.
