At my daughter-in-laws baby shower we played bingo while she was opening gifts. Everyone had a bingo board with gift items in the squares, and they X'd out the square depending on the gift she opened. So there weret things like blankets, onesies, bottles, socks, headbands, etc. on the bingo board. It was nice as it gives people something to do and focus on while the mom-to-be is opening up her gifts.

Nikki, I’m so very sorry for your loss. Listening to your thoughts on the grieving process has been so helpful as we recently and unexpectedly lost my Mother-in law. It was a whole new experience to have to help my daughters grieve the loss of their Grandma and supporting my husband and not just deal with my own grief. When I hosted baby showers, I would request in the invitation to bring a baby picture of themselves. I then would number each picture and lay them out. Then have everyone try to guess who the babies are. Also, if for a wedding shower, I would request each guess to bring their wedding photos to put on display.

I understand fully, we are grieving the loss of my Uncle who was only a year older than myself.....he was more like a brother that I never had. We were very close and even though there was some miles between us, we got together about once a month. He was living in a nursing home and that was very difficult for him and us as well. It was a necessity at the time. His passing is still very shocking......we have yet to gather as a family to celebrate his life. He was a peaceful soul and carried himself as a prince and a gentleman, it's an honor to have him as my family.

In France, a baby shower is a relatively recent event as it wasn't in our culture, where presents are offered *after* the birth once everything went well,. but here are a few games that are popular now (and possibly all from the US, I'm not sure 🙂) depending on the length of the event, the time to prepare these games, and the budget when items are needed. 1)guessing the name or weight or hair/eye colour etc of the baby (everyone writes the answers on a piece of paper and signs, then drop it in a special box that will be opened after the birth). (In France it is not discriminative or racist to try and guess a baby's colours so I hope I'm not offending). 2) each person brings a photo of themselves when they were a baby, each photo gets a number and put on a poster or a table, and everyone tries to find out who it is, making a list with the numbers and the names of who they think the babies were. 3) try to guess the diameter of the mummy-to-be's belly, using a measuring tape on themselves to guess the number, and write it down. The closest answer is the winner. 4) floating pacifiers in little basins of water, which the guests have to 'fish' as fast as possible with their hands behind their backs. 5) Try to lace a pair of shoes on the floor with a balloon attached to your belly - as if you had a pregnant belly :) 6) Blind-musical test: play the first seconds of baby songs and lullabies to see who'll find the title first. &) Drawing baby-related things or actions on cards/pieces of paper, which will have to be guessed through mime/pantomime. Also some activities like a mini-workshop if time allows, optionally letting guests choose what each wants to do: sculpting a baby in a bar of soap, embroidering (simply) onesies or a small baby towel, painting cards or pictures for the baby, making together a scrapbook for the baby or a poster to put in a frame for the baby's room. I hope my English made sense, it's not my first language 🙂Also I hope you'll have a beautiful sweet and fun baby shower, and that it will help your hurting heart to heal a little, Nikki. ❤‍🩹💓

Dear Nikki, I just want to put my arms around you and hold you. I struggled with grief after my mom died in Aug due to Covid, I took care of her for 12 years. I had a set of oil paints I had never used. I set about painting a portrait of my mother in her rocking chair, I worked on it daily. At first I would cry, but gradually after a few months I was beginning to smile while I enjoyed my alone time with moms portrait. I never finished it...I think it was a way to work through the grief. Thank you for sharing in what is a very personal time, showing that one foot in front of the other, how routine can be a blessing. My favorite baby shower game is putting a lot of baby things on a tray, let everyone study it for a certain amount of time, then take the tray away and set the timer for a certain amount of time and each person writes down how many items they can remember. The one who remembers the most wins a prise or a cookie. Another one is write baby items (mixing up the letters) maybe 10, then pass out the papers, turning them face down. Set the timer and the one who can unscramble the most words wins.😊👍❤️🐾
