What a fantastic episode to finish the Australian mainland adventure (for now). Very jealous of that mussel soup. Ever any worries about pollution and such when picking them off a wharf? Or maybe that particular wharf doesn't see much traffic? Can't wait for the Tassie videos to start, love the content. Fair winds!

I'm always somewhat amazed when Pascale talks about being nervous in the conditions. Then I realize it's a good thing, breeds a bit of healthy caution. Glad your new running rigging set up is working so well and your cockpit is easier kept.

One of the things I miss after moving North from Victoria is mussels. If you can rig up a smoker of some sort, smoked mussels are awesome, just smoke them with the shells flat so they stay juicy.

Adrift in the wide open seas, do you ever ponder the thought that one James Cook traveled through these same waters and discovered a barbecue and a shrimp on a fair bit of land called, AUSTRALIA 🥳🥳🥳 You might very well have better sailing equipment than he used 👍Amazing that boat is rocking side to side and you two have obviously conquered the “I gonna hurl” condition 👍. The food always looks tasty 🤓.

Catch and cook is always satisfying but there's something special about eating muscles that you just gathered yourself. I've never understood why but that joyful feeling those little molluscs give is such a treat. I haven't been back to those cooler waters for years and realy miss that.

It just struck me that I only occasionally wish i could cook.' And it's usually when I see Pascal putting something together. Perhaps the term Pascalian will at some point in time mean the same as Pavlovian. That looked so delicious from purely a sensual perspective and also from an ecological perspective. What a delightful use of a seldomly used natural resource.

Another great and simple mussel meal is had by adding mussels in their shells to the Tom Yum soup mix available in Woolworths - plus a few vegetables and then garnish with coriander. A good meal with any seafood actually. Yum. BTW, did you get any of those small symbiotic crabs that live in mussels from this part of the world? They provide a bit of crunch.

When I used to visit Oz to work at Thredbo, we used to fly from Sydney to Merimbula (and then into Cooma) and I always marvelled at how beautiful it was and wanted to sail in there some day. Too bad about the anchorage. I was really looking forward to you folks exploring along there. What's with the forks an spoons for mussels??? As an east coaster (Canadian Maritimes), the proper way to eat mussels is to with the shells of another. If you have cooked the mussels properly (just until 99% of them have opened), you are left with a handle little pair of pliers that is very good at using to first scrap the mussel off the shell and then grab hold of to (for sissies, dip in melted butter and then) pop in your mouth. While I like various sauces on them, drain them well, put in about 1/2" of salt water in the bottom of the pot, some carrots, onions, white wine (or beer) and steam the little buggers until most of them open. Any that don't, throw out. Fresh grated parm cheese goes well with them too although you waste a lot of it on the shells.

I always use to go out a collect a few kgs of mussels, Billions of them were i live in West Australia, cook them the same although i use a splash of Balsamic vinegar, in my chilli mussels, then lately because they are so cheap, like $2 a kgs washed, I started using them, all live all open fine, if they don’t open I don’t eat them. And all of a sudden I started getting an itchy face and lips, i just felt all swollen. an Allergy? Now ive been eating these things for years, had to be what they clean them with? So I tryed an experiment and got one of my mates to grab me a few kgs of fresh ones. Same thing! Some how i Developed and allergy to something ive eatten most of my life.. and ironically I don’t suffer any allergies to any food.. asked my GP he said it’s not unheard of to develop an allergy, but not common, especially if you ate them for years! No real point, but i miss the little suckers! Almost willing to swell up, for my chilli mussels 😂
