Sassafras is probably the easiest to identify, as I call this one 'dinosaur feet leaf tree' of the 3 toe kind.the edges are smooth unlike the mulberry which is serrated yet shares the same dino foot shape.

Northern red oak leaf looks nearly like swamp turkey oak, or turkey oak. The Turkey Oaks though are rounder serrated edge vs their red oak cousin.

I live in New England as well but there is a lot of variation between southern New England and Northern New England...what zone are you in?

I'm in southern new england. There is a lot of variation! For example, I've looked at range maps and as far as I can tell there are no native firs here. Not sure what grows here and not there.
