Is the beech a baby beech tree? This is so cool. Now I want to get out to the woods and explore.

yes you can eat the leaves of young beech trees in the spring. They taste a little nutty. The beech nuts only fall from mature ones though.

Would you be willing to do a video on what you did to learn all you know?

That's a really good idea. I have been thinking a lot about that because I see people making huge mistakes on both ends of the spectrum. first those that know so little but think they know a lot that it is dangerous. I've done research, this is how the few deaths a year from mushroom hunting usually happen. Overconfidence and picking the wrong species. on the other end of the spectrum are people that get overwhelmed and feel they can't really learn anything because they don't know everything. but what they are missing is that just learning a few plants extremely well is possible and a good way to start. We all don't have to be experts right away, but we can still benefit.

can you please make a video on the different types of pine trees. you've talked alot about white pine but they aren't in my area. I have alot of pine trees but the needles are really long and they grow really tall with not many branches down low. I live in central South Carolina so I'm not sure what type of pine they are

Here we only have eastern white, red, black, pitch, and austrian. Down there you have a whole different set. I believe loblolly(pinus taeda) is common there. The first step is to get a hold of a branch and count how many needles in a bunch. It's, usually 2, 3 or 5. and look at the pinecone, they may have slight differences. feel free to email me at eattheplanet.org@gmail.com if you want help identifying them.
