And YES I absolutely know that 'eachother' is supposed to be two words, but I don't like it that way and to me being one word feels more correct in this use because we are truly all in this together and are in many ways the same, hence eachother together and not separate. This will make sense if you watch the entire video...

This is a great episode! I highly recommend contacting the publisher/company who puts out these books you are using and let them know of this channel and your great regard for their books and, that since you have used the books for decades, would like to rep them in exchange for considerations. Frankly, what a wonderful way for them to get their books better known in a digital age! It could be a great partnership and one you should totally try for even if it is not something you would normally do. They could sponsor some travels taken by their books and get better known in mainstream that paper map books still have much value! The worst they can do is not answer your followup if they never get back to you. Nothing ventured, nothing gained as you well know! Heck, if you give me the name of the company who makes the books, I will totally hit them up and direct them to this channel!

I loved this video! Skillshare would benefit from offering a map-use course with you! Using paper maps is a dying skill, but paper maps offer a visual representation of an area that digital maps just don't. Digital maps have their strengths and are valuable but they offer information in small visual pieces. Atlas sized paper maps allow you to orient to the larger topography and then drill down. Which you do so capably. Did you mention studying geology in an earlier video? Anyway, you have an expert grasp of a vanishing skill that is still extremely useful. It seems it would be rewarding in a number of ways for you to share it. I enjoy your videos and have cyber affection for both you and Frank 💕 - he's such a dear, good boy, and you are such a warm, genuine and good soul. I send my very best wishes for all your days and adventures together! ❤

Hands down my favorite blog yet. You can get yourself into the absolute BEST adventures by looking at a map and not checking any online review/comment sections. It’s all we used to have and how we accidentally got onto the Apache scenic byway during controlled burning by fire bombs shot from helicopters season. Element of surprise is what’s lacking from app-based travel!!!

The Back Roads Map Books are a great resource. We've used them for decades. After watching your video, I purchased the latest edition for our Vancouver Island Trip this summer. $29.99 + tax + delivery came to $36.70. Now we have all of BC in our collection. We also sent them an email to let them know what a great brand ambassador you would make for their products. Good to see Frank helping you on your laptop.

I can thank my mom for my map skills, when ever we went on long road trips she bought 4 maps and 4 pens, 1 was for her and the other 3 went to my brothers and I. We sat in the back seat and filled in the maps from one town to an other year after year. I am so greatful to her for that. I wright this as I sit in my van parked in the Outer banks of N Carolina waiting to see my first blood moon Over the Atlantic ocean ☀️

Totally agree when I get ready to do anywhere I sit down with my old maps first and foremost...it looks exactly like your road atlas of the USA...mine is 1995. The words you were looking for is "Seat of your Pants." Delorme Atlas is the same type thing used here in the USA, it's by state, and it has all the camping rec sites, fishing etc.

This video is a fantastic resource. Thanks, Amanda! In case it’s useful to some, the U.S. equivalent to the Backroad Mapbooks would probably be the Gazetteers published by Garmin, printed by state. Those have a section at the front that highlights recreational activities by type, lists campgrounds, parks, public land (BLM), and more, and provides detailed topo maps by grid for the entire state. They’re big, but they do the trick. If driving in a city I’ll use an atlas (and GPS), which usually will have those nice enlarged city maps, at least for the large cities. Hope this helps those asking about the U.S. equivalent to BRMB.

The best backroads atlas for US states is the Delorme Gazetteer series. They have all the backroads, plus a Gazette section with listings of parks, historic attractions, trails, bike rides, fishing spots, etc etc etc. I have about 20 of them, for the states where I've traveled. Great resource, and wonderful for places that don't get a cell signal.

I completely agree that working to find a camp spot often results in more respect for the site. Unfortunately, many people out there with us these days have no respect for the land, wildlife or other people. It is very, very disheartening, indeed. I love this video. I went to Costa Rica a couple years ago & they do not have road signs hardly anywhere. I make it a practice to print out directions to all the places intended to visit & return directions too. The 1st thing is to get a free map 🗺 at an airport. I don’t have travel cell phone svc, I rely on a map 🗺 & memorization. Thank goodness I do that, because I have gotten us out of situations quite a few times on travels. Even in India, I knew a tuktuk driver was taking us on a triple trip because I had memorized the area before going to that city. Thanks Amanda & Frank 🐕
