We are doing murcielago manual conversions at Third Pedal LLC! Strangely it seems that anytime Gallardo/Murci conversions come up on your podcast, you never mention us. We do engine-out using all OEM parts, unlike ANY of the other conversions on the market. Doing the conversion with the engine in is, to put it simply, a hack. You’re leaving the majority of the egear stuff in place, it is not like an oem car. People want their converted car to be like oem, not Art’s interpretation of it to make it as cheap/easy as possible. Doing it properly takes more work, just do it.

As someone who knows basically nothing about these type of conversions, what are the implications of doing it the “hacky” way? What e-gear parts are re-used and how does it impact the driving/ownership experience compared to a full, OEM, engine-out swap?

@@bhfootballer26 when we do conversions on the platform, it is complete engine-out to address required maintenance, along with a new clutch set and tob/seals. The tob and seals are different between egear and manual since they use different fluids (brake fluid vs pentosin), and while issues may not present immediately, they are likely to eventually

Since moving to LA I've been making major use of Turo. First rental was a SLK 55 AMG to drive the road to Hana in Maui. Next was a C8 Corvette for a weekend trip to Los Olivos last month. Next up I'm doing a BMW Z4 M40i for a weekend later this month. Then a Porsche 365 Speedster replica for a weekend in Paso Robles next February. And then an AMG GTC Roadster for my birthday weekend in Joshua Tree. I'm kind of obsessed.

I own an exotic (red Lotus Emira) and I get people taking pictures pretty often. I wave and try to be extra friendly! I get questions about what i do and im happy to answer, just no numbers but im the same as Doug in that if it were me, I wouldnt want to chat with the car owner. so i try to walk the balance where im approachable, but also sometimes i pretend i dont see them.

Owning a hyper expensive Bugatti is almost as similar as owning an old sailing boat. It needs constant maintenance and repairs. It has to be storage inside. Protected from bugs and dry rot. Only time I would be able to afford enjoy sailing. Few weeks during summer.

When I worked at Honda in Ohio I had heard that the Japanese did pronounce Acura similar to the way Doug does, A-cure-A. We anglicise or Americanize the pronunciation of some words. Nissan was pronounced differently in the Gran Turismo movie as well. I want to hang out with Nick. He seems pretty cool.

I live in South Florida, and expensive cars are easy to rent. On my wedding night in 2001, we rented a CLK convertible as our getaway car. On one night about a year ago, I counted 12 Rolls Royces in a 3 block radius in Miami Beach. Funny thing. Is that I get a lot of likes for my 2018 Miata in black with a red top. Definitely not expensive to buy or own, yet a gets great reactions here.

Remember you can buy a Bugatti veyron now and have it sent back to the factory to have it updated. I read it was like 300K. They will redo the car 100% as well as provide a warranty. This includes wheels, Tires, Paint, New interior and if you want any chrome or carbon panels than that's extra.

My favorite turo rental was last year. I had a 2015 Mercedes S63 coupe for a week. One of my dream cars is a w215, and i figured it was kinda close. With tax, insurance and gas, i think the average daily cost was $125 or so. Awesome experience.

Went to the Port Canaveral Avis once (always super friendly BTW) and had reserved a "Toyota RAV4 or similar". Guy said "It'll be a little bigger than you reserved" and I was like "That's fine". Ended up leaving with a GMC Yukon Denali 😆

I’ve only rented from Turo once. It was when I went to Austin last year for a little trip. The vehicle I rented was a 2022 Toyota Camry. It wasn’t a bad choice but next time I’ll definitely be looking for a much cooler and fun car to rent.

Anyone who isn't a billionaire would be wise to switch out the stock Veyron wheels and tires if they plan on driving it. Stock Veyron wheels and tires are mandatory replacement items every 10,000 miles at a cost of 88 thousand dollars. As my maw-maw used to say... YIKES!!!

I've been a Turo host and used them as a guest: if the host is personally dropping the car at airport arrivals that is absolutely a violation of Turo and airport policy. There's a lot of drama in the host community because most airports HATE Turo since they are not getting their usual cut from the big rental car companies. Some airports have banned Turo entirely and some have made arrangements with extra fees that restrict drop offs to certain parking area. No airports allow curbside drop off and hosts are routinely getting delisted and banned for violating policy.
