Your son may go to college, but knowing how to work is invaluable. Also your creating memories that will last him all his life. My father died when I was in my 30's, I'm 63 now and I wish everyday I could call him and ask his advice. Cherish these times with your son.

You were true to your word at the start when you said you were going to show everything, very detailed, excellent videos, reminds me when my own kids were young, I'd have them helping me working in the house, people over here thought it strange because they are 2 girls, but they loved it. Keep up the good work.

Love the videos and your work is amazing! Well done. Question: any reason to not use primed MDF for this project? Also, curious why you chose to butt joint the base. Is it because of the cove molding on top which would hide the miter or just preference?

If the top cap is a 1x2 (1.5" wide) and half of it is taken up by the 1x6 top rail it leaves you with no reveal if you use a 3/4" cove (which is all that is available locally for me)

Excellent job with regard to proportions give to your layout and reveals. The overall job is turning out quite nicely thus far. My opinion as a finish carpenter of 30yrs, do not run that cove down the closet casing leg . It will look odd as that portion is wainscot territory. One, it will give an odd jog appearance and b. It isn’t on any of your other corners. Always defer to old world craftsmanship when in doubt . They had it down and we are always trying to reinvent things.

@senator5584 жыл бұрын
Richard, love your channel, but are you planning on finishing the wainscot series soon? At 7:29 you said that you had a cool idea for the inside panels with a backband and panel moulding and you told us to stay tuned. I’m finished with my wainscot project up to the panels and I was hoping to see what you did before proceeding. Please give us a peek!
@senator5584 жыл бұрын
I couldn’t wait. I wound up cutting 27 degree bevels along the outside edges of a 1x4. I then ripped the remaining center piece of the 1x4 twice again at 5/8” and mitered those pieces as a backband for the mitered beveled moulding I cut for the inside. The 5/8” backband sits on top of the eucaboard so it is about 1/8” proud of the wainscot frame. It gives the look of frame and panel construction and I think it looks pretty spiffy.

As in your case , each wall is a different length. So how do you determine how much space is needed between each style? Depending on how many panels you are going to need, on one wall the space mat be 24 inches but on the next wall the space may be 18 or 26 inches. Is this normal, or am I suppose to keep it the same space all the way around. If so , how do I accommodate for the difference in the end?
