M first car was a 1976 camaro, 350 4 speed. F41 suspension. Red with black interior. I had the old Ansen D slot mag wheels on it. The original engine was pretty tired when I got it. Rebuilt it my self in auto shop. Made around 350 Hp when I was done. Sold it when I joined the USAF. Have regretted selling it ever since. I last saw it about 10 years ago, it was rusted and clapped out, and the current owner had made it in to a bumblebee clone. My current ride is a 1971 SS 396 4 speed.

I thought these 396's had a solid lifter cam in them? but I don't know if they used a solid lifter cam or not I would have assumed if they were building it to spec. I see what everyone was saying about the stripes "Yikes"!!!! lol but hey let's be honest unfortunately when these guys are on TV they are under a stupid time crunch to get stuff done which really sucks im sure deep down these guys are not 100% pleased themselves over that outcome.

The best way to put in a headliner is to use alligator clips on a hot day...and let it sit for a week or longer...then on a hot day STRETCH it AGAIN, and if time allows...let it set again, then stretch it more. I have done 4 headliners...I am no expert but the last on I did in a 1968 Cutlass turned out professional. The key with them is patience. Do not do them on a cool day...get the car outside, do it in hot weather, you will sweat your ass off...but your headliner will be tight. The bow loops must be trimmed on both side in the spots to make the curve down to prevent wrinkles. Headliners suck to do, but professional shops charge pretty good money to put em in.

Couldn't you guys figure out the the screws and screw clips behind the black grille were black oxide not silver. Shoot some silver on the oversprayed gas tank. get a heat gun to the wrinkled up back upper corners of the back seat and put in new headliner. FYI green pee's the 375 hp rating was just for the insurance guys, this is the same engine only .30 over = 402 CID which is properly rated at 425hp 1965 Vette's 396 option. I had a Copper Bronze white vinyl top with green cloth factory custom interior RS/SS 350hp 396 4sp with every option except PW A/C defrost, spoiler, tilt etc... back in the day. These have NO weight on the rear tires and mine was warmed up a bit and wold spin the tires up to 90mph no bs, just don't think your going to win many drag races while this is going on, as my brothers 300hp 327 67 vette walked away from my while I was spinning away impressing myself keeping the car spinning!

I know you had said in your last episode that you were looking for a stock G M 396 chrome air cleaner top and if I'm not mistaken, it's either the 15in or the 17in? I'm not sure if those sizes are correct but I know it was a stock big block block air cleaner for a truck that all they did at GM was chrome it. Back in the day somebody had stolen mine.. You could not buy another one from the parts counter at GM or your local dealership but you could buy the sticker (back in those days you didn't have reproduction parts accessible as they are today) and when I went to go order another one they asked me what size it was and if I'm not mistaken they said it was 17 in in diameter when I got it it was black and I had to send it out to be chromed but for all intents and purposes it was a stock big block air cleaner top for a truck... Maybe that will help..

340 duster has power to weight almost identical to an Altima 3.5 V6. CVT has the advantage I guess since the Altima few tenths faster zero to sixty 5.9 vs 6.2 & 14.1 vs 14.5. Actually the dusters numbers match the heavier Maxima. My uncle had a 340 duster. Back then it was faster than most cars it came across on the street. It would hook and go when the more powerful cars spun due to the heavier power plant up front and heavy body weight. All my family members claim it says the fastest car they'd ever rode in. Maybe some of the engines ran better than advertised?
