Full detailed Explanation: This is one timeline. We see people exist at the same time temporarily but in the end, only one of each character exist. Prestory: Howard built the time machine and James comes with a fake funding letter to convince Howard from stopping the project and to steal the invention (because Howards is better). Perspective Howard: 11:04 Start of the scene. To show his invention Howard goes into the time machine and becomes Howard#1. 11:59 Girl in Bathtub, Howard#1 shows up and goes slowly back, he reaches the house by 12:07. 12:07 Howard#1 sees the dead Howard#3, James#2 explains that Howard#2 killed Howard#3 and talks him into using the time machine again. Howard#1 becomes Howard#2. 12:02 Ring in Pool, Howard#2 runs back to the house and reaches there by 12:05. 12:05 He comes into the room, asks James (who doesn't know a thing) who will be killed and shoots out of panic at Howard#3. Then he uses the time machine at becomes Howard#3. 12:00 Howard#3 lands on the bed, runs back to his house, realizes his mistake, and gets killed by Howard#2 at 12:05. 12:05 Howard#3 (the final) is sadly dead. Perspective James: 12:04 Start of scene. James sees Howard jump into the time machine. 12:05 Directly after that, Howard#2 runs in, asks who will be killed, shoots Howard#3 out of panic and goes into the time machine again. 12:06 James (thinking that Howard is dead) takes the power source and drives away. 12:07 James#2 stops him and makes him bring the power back and hide behind the time machine. Howard#1 comes in and James#2 convinces him to use the time machine again. 12:08 James goes into the time machine and becomes James#2. 12:03 James#2 runs out of the house to stop James from driving away, he reaches there by 12:06. 12:06 James#2 brings the power source back (James just watches) 12:07 James#2 convinces Howard#1 (who comes running in and sees the dead Howard#3) to use the time machine again (so that he would kill himself) 12:08 James#2 sends James into the time machine. 12:09 James#2 (the final) drives away with the power source. Chronological: 11:59 Howard#1 arrives at bathtub 12:00 Howard#3 arrives at bed 12:02 Howard#2 arrives at pool 12:03 James#2 arrives somewhere. 12:04 James meets Howard at his house. (Howard uses the time machine.) 12:05 James sees Howard#2 kill Howard#3. (Howard#2 uses the time machine.) 12:06 James takes power source and meets James#2, they go back to the house. 12:07 Howard#1 meets James#2. (Howard#1 uses the time machine.) 12:08 (James uses the time machine.) 12:09 James#2 leaves with the power source.

I like how people complain that you have to add the earth's movement in space to the rotation. But if you ignore this and Howard just has to run back the distance to his house that he made through 5 minutes of our world's rotation, that means in the video he is actually able to run 993 miles per hour (1598 km/h). RESPECT.
@AntsCanada6 жыл бұрын
Wow! This blew my mind. Only thing I would bring up is the Earth is not only spinning but traveling quickly through space in orbit around the sun. Assuming Howard is transported to the exact same location, 5 mins may have been enough to transport Howard somewhere high in the sky, deep down in the Earth, in an ocean or other country, or worse in outer space!
@NickFisherman6 жыл бұрын
Exactly.
@traetuusplays89876 жыл бұрын
One problem there though. The earth AND Howard are both confined to the same plane of time. Therefore five minutes ahead or behind the earth is going to be where it would be the same as if it traveled five minutes. They are only traveling through time so every single increment of time will have a point in space. And being Howard is ON earth it will be exactly that same way. They in this sense are technically NOT two objects. Hard to explain via texts, but lets say. At 12:00am Jan 1st, 2019 the earth and howard will be at precise certain points in space at said time. Now if they MOVE THROUGH time they will simply be fast forwarding to said spots they would be after 5 minutes of travel time through physical space. Hopefully that makes sense.
@differous016 жыл бұрын
This is Dr Who style time-travel; Time And Relative Dimension In Space (Tardis). But you are correct: 1 minute ago 'here' was [edit*] 1140 miles away, & if time-travel DOESN'T conserve orbital momentum (*19 miles a second, so it's reckoned), the best chance of survival is to go about dawn in a space craft.

Travelling five minutes back in time without also moving through space would leave you NINE THOUSAND KILOMETRES from your starting point based upon the orbital velocity of Earth (not even taking into account the solar galactic orbit or the galaxy's own velocity, which would multiply that distance). Given that it's the middle of the day, and assuming that his own inertia is unchanged, he would find himself floating in darkness, and would have a few scant seconds to marvel at the stars before he passed out (and thereafter rapidly expired). He'd deserve it anyway - someone who can build a time machine but (1) tests it first on his dog rather than an inanimate object (evidenced by his lack of anticipation of the results), (2) looks for the dog inside the box even though he's just sent it back in time (meaning it would have appeared in the box before he started, and the box would now be empty), (3) does not consider the consequences of time travel without moving through space, and (4) can't put the sequence of observed events into an order that makes logical sense before running to his own death (and even shoots himself in order to prevent himself from shooting himself, but forgets he did so as he runs back in through the same door) is simply too stupid to live. He'd be too stupid to build a time machine, in fact. o.O

+Unique and Hilarious Username +finitefilms In fact if it loops enough time, it will start to wear off and alterate the initial loop. In fact enven if it seems that there isn't any paradox the whole thing is. It only work if you look at it from the outside of the loop. Try to folow the events with the eyes of one of the characters : the "bad guy". The Idea of turning back in time to prevent himself from taking the core and being dicovered was implemented by his future self who got it from his future self, again and again and again ... It's a very interesting version of the "paradoxe de l'écrivain" (sorry I don't know the english equivalent). The same goes for the killing, it only emerged because his future self already killed himself. The shot has no cause and come from nothing enven though it's the cause of every thing. @@rajarshimukherjee4844 If you travel back in time by just 1 minute, you will also be translated 1 light-minute away. So even if you transmit a signal back to Earth, it has to arrive after you left, avoiding potential paradoxes. Nature does not tolerate paradoxes.
@david2033 жыл бұрын
@ankurbohra04 In order to prevent paradoxes, which are impossible in nature. A signal by light is the fastest way to communicate back in time. In other comments, observations are noted regarding whether or not time travelers would end up in space, conflicts of spatial events, and so forth. Let 'em go, guys. If you're going to suspend belief enough to play with the five-minute time-bounce to create the looping effect, just enjoy the story for its own cleverly designed sequence of amusements. Most sci-fi of this sort is "soft science," which means that certain elements are included while others are ignored, all for the sake of enjoying the story. Let it be fun! Within the parameters set by the story (not by scientific fact), it works, and works well. Kudos to the creators for a delightful, well-produced bit of temporal shenanigans!
@bryanreed7425 жыл бұрын
The thing is that they attempted to explain it and totally botched it, and this was very distracting. No explanation at all would have been better writing. In sci-fi you're supposed to get one big suspension of disbelief and everything else must follow logically. This failed to do that.

@@humanbeing7711 copy pasting the same response: The first guy time travels, wastes a bunch of time and gets home rather late. He sees a dead body on the ground, and jumps in the time machine again, runs home and shoots his future self (whom he expects is trying to kill him). He then jumps in again and gets shot, remarking how he was an idiot. The other guy, instead, meets up with a future version of himself - who manipulates the main character to time travel for the third time (ensuring he gets shot)- , and gets sent back in time to do the things he just saw his future self do. The film assumes that everything that will ever happen at a given moment will happen at that moment. There is only 1 consistent timeline throughout the video. The tricky part is that some of the events here are self enforcing (a bit like self fulfilling prophecies). B causes A in the past, A causes B, therefore A (a person can be told by a future self to travel back in time - and then becomes the person telling his past self to travel back in time). There are lots of ways to do scifi in film, others have collapsing or branching timelines - I like this one the most ^^ Hope this helps ;-p

Taking all previous comments into account, in my opinion, this is a wonderfully good science fiction short. Well written, well produced, directed AND edited with all the bells and whistles deserving of a full blown production. Yes, the time travel theme and all the paradoxes it throws up is a well-worn path populated by countless others but nevertheless, this production is an extremely good piece of entertainment that holds the attention of the viewer to its conclusion - whatever the 'armchair si fi critics' might try to level at its paradoxical storyline. And the film's 'timing' is spot on too! All participants should be applauded for their efforts; special effects, sound, music composition and not least of all, the actors who performed their parts extremely well. Congratulations to all concerned in producing such a professional film. I, for one, will look forward to further productions you may produce.

Ok, here is my sequence. Jim#1 goes to Howard#1's house to "prank" him about the funding, and then Howard#1 jumps into the time machine to "prove" that it works. All of a sudden, Howard#2 pops into the garage through the same door Jim#1 just came in asking if "he's the one that gets shot?" and then Howard#3 comes into the garage through a side door, and Howard #2 panics and shoots him. Jim#1 is in shock and asking, "What is happening" and then trying to tell Howard #2 to stop and that he was just joking about the funding. Jim#1 has a conscious and is actually really scared at this point. Anyway, Howard#2 is babbling about having to go back to save himself and he keeps saying, "remember?" to Jim#1 and Jim#1 really truly has NO IDEA what Howard#2 is talking about. Remember, Howard has already been looping in his timeline, so he has already been with the "other" Jim. So Jim#1 has just witnessed that the time machine works and decides to steal it, but as he drives away, trying to "balance" the globe on his lap, (I'm guessing) he remembers that when Howard#3 comes back, he will notice the globe is missing and Howard's time loop will stop. This is the moment he makes his plan to keep Howard's time loop going. Or in other words, "kill him". He realizes he has to get back before Howard #3 pops into the garage so that he can trick Howard#3 to go save Howard#4.. So he gets an empty case for the globe, drives back to Howards house, jumps into the time machine to create a Jim#2 who runs out and stops Jim#1 from driving away and brings him back just in time for Howard#3 to pop in. Jim#2 has Jim#1 hide behind the desk and acts out what Jim#1 has to say in order to keep all Howards in the time loop. Howard#3 now thinks this is the first time he's come back to the garage, so Jim#2 lies to Howard about Howard "killing himself" so he better go back and save himself. Then Jim#2 steals the globe and that's the end of the story. Jim#1 goes back and becomes Jim#3 who teaches the ORIGINAL Jim what to say to Howard. So Howard's time loop is him going back in time, seeing himself get killed, coming back to Jim in the garage, and Jim telling him to go back to save himself, and then becoming his own victim. Jim's timeline now just has a "hiccup" of him going back in time to teach the next Jim what to say to Howard#3 and then Jim's timeline carries on as usual. Accept he gets all the glory! BTW, when Jim#2 forgot to give Jim#1 his scarf back, every time a Jim goes back, he has to take the original Jim's scarf when he acts out the scene for the Jim behind the desk to learn. This is the only way I can make sense of it. Now I'm going to think about Howard's perspective and why he didn't catch on to it. Like when he saw himself with the pink flamingo and running ahead or when Jim kept saying, " I have no idea what you are talking about!?" I haven't really followed the actual minutes, so I'm guessing Howard just got mixed up which Howard was ahead of him and which one was behind. Boy, I really loved this film and have watched it about 3 times in full, and lots of snippets. The actors were really good too!

@andrealaurenmaria What's your number? Can I call you so you can explain it to me? LOL. Of all the people in the comment section, you seem like you actually understand (or can at least explain it) better than anyone else. All the other people who are trying to act smart and disparage those who don't get it yet just seem like they're bullshitting. This is literally driving me crazy!!!! I would greatly appreciate it. (I did read your explanation, but I have some questions before I'll really get it)

Ok, cool... but there's still a dead body in the garage, and how long will it take for the police to make the guy who stole the device the prime suspect?

Fingerprints belong to dead guy, gun belongs to dead guy, does anyone else know that there was another person there? Much less what an incomplete time machine looks like?

ArtemisJami3 true and there is still a paradox going on and it will start over and over again forever so Jim just needs to disappear no one should invented this at the first place it's more dangerous than a than anything except the earth just blowing up I'm surprised I know this I'm like 13 years old😂

He didn't even take the whole thing... He took one little piece... *steals the power cable* AT LAST! IT'S MINE!!! XD

thaisa cattoor there is no paradox now. He prevented a paradox when he stopped himself from stealing it before the last one came in and went back to get killed. Now that the inventors loops are complete, and the thief has sent himself back to stop himself, the timeline is flat again.
