I know you said you reserve album listens for your favorite artists. But Fiona really is an album artist. While ‘Fetch The Bolt Cutters’, ‘When The Pawn’ and ‘The Idler Wheel’ are some of the most acclaimed albums of the last 3 decades. If you’re gonna keep with the song reactions I’d suggest reactions to Limp, Criminal, Hot Knife , Every Single Night and/or Fast As You Can next.

Mike Elizondo had mostly produced for hip-hop and R&B artists (Eminem, G-Unit, Busta, Snoop Dogg, Mary J Blige) before co-producing this album. Him producing this led to him producing for more alt Pop girlies. So, very much like with Jon Brion, Kanye, Jay-Z he represents another odd, influential connection Fiona has to hip-hop.

Yeah, pain creates genius sometimes. Check out Sullen Girl from her first album. It’s about her rape at age 12. I think most of the songs on that album were written between the ages of 14 and 17. It came out when she was 18. It’s INSANE.

Lana is a little more performative than Fiona. But Fiona is definitely a prototype for Lana and also Amy Winehouse. If you listen to her more percussive songs, she almost uses it like a drum. There’s absolutely no tickling of the ivories. And if you listen to her more uptempo tracks like Fast as You Can, you’ll understand why rappers geek out on her.

Eh, Lana Del Rey give me the ick. I feel like her songs are just word salad. Like she just pours a bunch of adjectives in a bowl, and mixes it up, and there’s a song. lol. I like Radio. I don’t know, maybe I’m being salty towards her because she gets compared to Fiona a lot, and no one can even TOUCH Fiona, least of all LDR.
