For context regarding why Laura stated that she would only consider suing Fiona if she wins her case against Netflix. The reason Laura did not sue Fiona sooner is that she believed Fiona did not have any money or assets to cover the damages. If Fiona wins her case against Netflix, she will become a multimillionaire and will subsequently have the financial means to cover the alleged damages to Laura. In the Piers Morgan interview, Laura said she would sue Fiona for her more recent defamatory comments, such as calling her an incompetent legal professional and an abusive person. I think this context needs to be taken into account.

The benefit to watch the series is you would realize that when in the first episode you see “this is a true story” you would understand that is Donny’s true story. The one that the character is telling us in 1st person, you understand that you’ve been seeing the events he is writing in the last episode, after the court scene when he’s sitting at his computer, deleting the police timeline report and starting to type in the events we just saw on screen… That’s why you only see the “this is a true story” once on episode one. And that’s why you see the disclaimer that the events are based on a true story, however, some scenes, characters and events have been dramatically amended for the purpose of the story. I understand that someone that doesn’t watch many series/films might not pay attention to details of storytelling and foreshadowing. However, taking something so literal starts to become ridiculous. Perhaps if the series were truly watched it wouldn’t be the circus that it has become. Ms Fiona has come forward to say it was her, she’s a self proclaimed stalker, no one from Netflix has come out to confirm the identity of the characters, because some have been made up for the story as well.

Thank you for that! ❤ I've been watching several different videos on this, looking at it from different angles. I'm really disappointed that none of the 'legal professionals' picked up on this. Most of what I've seen from that angle was on the Piers Morgan show, so I guess I'm not terribly surprised that the guests were going off clips and not watching the whole thing. ❤ that makes all the difference in the world. The show isn't about 'Martha' it's about Gadd telling his story. Thank you again for clearing that up. The peice on the end was what I was missing.

Why is it irrelevant if she did these things? If we are going to charge Netflix with lying, then can't Fiona herself be charged for denying that she did these things? She flat out says its all lies.

Well it's irrelevant in this context because it doesn't appear that Richard Gad has/had any intention of pressing charges for anything she may or may not have done in the past so theres no case to speak of, also, 'we' are not charging Netflix for lying. Harvey is suing Netflix for defamation as well as some sort of formal enquiry into Netflix's conduct and violations over duty of care carried out by UK Gov. Lying isn't a crime. If it was the overwhelming majority of us would be wearing ankle monitors, so Fiona Harvey can't be charged for that unless she slandered someone in her statements which I'm sure will be investigated by the opposition in her case. She wasn't under oath during the Piers Morgan interview. She was for the most part denying claims that may or may not be true. She's entitled to do that in that situation. She wouldn't be the first. Netflix on the other hand do appear to have defamed her and a company with that much power and influence abusing their position and acting above the law, that's much more dangerous than one alleged stalker. That's the biggest concern in this whole story and they need to investigated and held to account if it's proven misconduct.

Excellent discussion! I'm wondering if Netflix is going to argue that they put the 'prison sentence' in there to 'disguise' the identity of the stalker. That it was in fact supposed to act as a red herring for anyone that does try to hunt the participants down.

The DBS that Fiona Harvey 's Laywers have produced is a very basic check, which does not include spent criminal convictions and only goes back 5 years. They should be showing at least an Enhanced DBS which is what is needed for working in schools etc

Exactly. You can’t work iwith children with the basic DBS check, for example; you need an enhanced check. And on an adjacent topic, isn’t it terrifying that you could hire someone like Fiona Harvey with a DBS check in the first place? Of course I’m not sure what would turn up on her enhanced DBS because that lists spent convictions, earlier history, as well as other factors, but still worrying.

Yes, I haven't seen the show, but another person just made the comment that at the beginning, you see Gadd typing 'this is a true story', and after the court scene you see him typing the 'things have been changed' disclaimer. For me, this changed my entire perception of the show. It's not about 'Martha'. It's about the victims' journey. At the end of that kind of relationship, he is left with feelings of anger, resentment, and wanting revenge. Part of the healing process is to imagine the wrongdoer being confessing, asking for forgiveness, and being punished. Then, makeing the decision not to go down the road of revenge and move on with your life.

People are either terrified, financially challenged, or too exhausted to pursue a likely failed conviction against Ms. Harvey. IMO the show depicted the convictions to (1) keep a sensibility about what should have happened (2) catharsis. I hope Ms. Harvey can receive the care she so desperately needs and deserves as a human. I do not believe she should win or be awarded any ruling or monetary gain. That will not help her root cause of distortion. IMO.

While I admire your empathy here you might not be aware but there are literally millions of people like her in the world who make other people's lives a misery everyday, just because people are mean and unreasonable does not mean they have a mental illness or need psychiatric help, if you have been or ever talk to victims of other people like this, you quickly learn these people know exactly what they are doing,, they know exactly how to hurt their victim, they are not mentally ill they are just jealous and angry.

100% there are a lot of reasons people don't pursue legal action against predators like FH. Number one would be that they are dangerous! They don't have a back-up gear. They just double down. Kind of like Fiona Harvey is doing now, Imo. The second reason is notoriety and criticism. The only way they found the lawyer Wray is because she did press for an order against FH. ❤

I think baby reindeer is a complete work of art and a masterpiece. I actually think the whole court scene was a prediction of what will actually happen at some point in the future. Fiona Harvey will, I believe, become a convicted stalker. Which in turn makes Richard Gadd a legend in my eyes.

Why can't Fiona sue for all the lies told about her on the Piers Morgan interview which has prompted her to do this interview to defend herself and put the records straight. This will have certainly caused her alot of problems at work NOW. As she says luckily most people she does business with her will hopefully understand what she went through all those years ago. It's not about suing her for the past it's all about lies being told by Fiona now!

The document ..DBS check is a BASIC CHECK A ENHANCED CHECK would be necessary in this case and also to work with children or in a care capacity It would show up on the Enhanced form if she’d been incarcerated in a hospital/psych ward rather than jail

At 26:08, you are talking about Ms Wray potentially bringing a case against this alleged stalker and what you say about that was interesting because in the book of the Play (of the same name) on page 62 (of 80); there’s an interesting paragraph about the same scenario that you were talking about…the bit about how this is supposed to have happened a few decades ago and how it might be different in a case that might be brought now. But the big difference between this is that it’s not between Ms Wray and this person, but it’s allegedly between this same person and Mr Gadd. I don’t know if this particular paragraph is correct or not but if it is, then it shows the same motivation as to the money. Ps It is VERY difficult to get a prosecution for stalking/harassment in the UK, let alone actually get a custodial sentence for it…and sadly the Police don’t have the resources to properly investigate the crime(s), either that or it’s just not seen as much important in the grand scheme of things here.

Excellent analysis, gentleman. I've watched Piers Morgan's interviews and some analysis before I tried to watch the Netflis series《Babt Reindeer.》I'm stopping at the second episode. Why ? The episode ends with what I will call rape. It's a matter of taking advantage of autonomous male biology without consent, something at least one of the Menendez brothers alleges about his mother. My ex-wife has narcissistic traits. The only reason we divorced and split assets so quickly was because she made a series of incredibly stupid mistakes, expecting these to work. I remarried 8 years later. It's only 2 or 3 years later that she seemed to give up on the notion that we'd remarry. Then she found a new formula : manipulating our grandchildren. That said, Harvey has a case against Netflix. I expect she'll settle out of court for a fraction of the £ 130M she's asking for. I expect her to drop her lawsuit against Morgan. Either that, or we'll see utterly lurid details about her life come to the surface.
