Don't rush. You have time. Get some kind of certificate or degree in fire science, and then get an EMT cert. Do community service. Learn some good skills (communication skills, technical skills). If you can, work as an EMT for a while and then go to paramedic school. You can also go to an independent FF1 academy. If you do all these things, you will a prime candidate for almost every department in the nation. If you can test and interview well, you can get hired at departments that make you go through their own academies if you dont have a FF1 and paramedic, but it will be more competitive.

I'm not gonna lie, I was checking out videos about being a firefighter because I started an anime called fire force, but now I'm 100% sure that this is what I want to do right after high school, and this is what I want to do with my life. I can't wait to start, it won't be that long though, only about 2 years, or actually maybe less. I know this story may sound stupid, but I'm completely sure that this is what I want to do. IT's exciting, you get to save people's lives, and unlike in the army, they encourage you, and to be honest I'd rather be burned alive saving people than to be shot with a gun, weird I know. The only reason I brought up that army is that that's what I originally thought I wanted to do. Anyway, I've typed too much now lol. Bye!

@DapperSapper5153 жыл бұрын
Hey, awesome news! Is that still what you want to do? Seeing how you said 2 years, 1 year ago; I want to give you some tips on standing out the MOST! Become EMT certified. It's about a 4 month long course. Once you pass, you'll have to take a physical exam where you do what you learned on dummies. Once you pass that, you have to take a national exam known as the NREMT! Once you pass that, you're a certified EMT. Secondly, get into volunteer work/go to a junior fire service department. Third, if you decide to pursue college, DO NOT do fire science despite the fact that it's called fire science. Yes, it helps. However, get your degree in something medical like nursing. Finally, maybe join the National Guard, Reserves, or Active Duty military. You'll get hired QUICK! I wanted to be a cop for the longest time. I got my Bachelor's in Criminal Justice, and my Master's in Criminal Psychology. I did countless jobs in security and countless internships with State and local police departments. To go one step further, I joined the Army (Active Duty) at 25. As time went on whilst in the Army, I started to lose my love for wanting to be a cop. I no longer had the drive to do it. Why? I don't know. Maybe because the Army put a sour taste in my mouth about it. I never take anything to heart and never let anything get under my skin. However, being in the Army, people seeing my military style haircut, seeing me off post in uniform when I went to get lunch, having to pick something up for the wife immediately after work, etc - I was tired of being called all of these names when all I'm trying to do is serve my country. Needless to say, the police is the same way. It's one of the most thankless jobs out there. Now, I'm not saying I want to be thanked or anything of the sort. What I'm saying is I don't want to serve a community that hates my guts despite me trying to do nothing but help them. So I figured I'd do the next best thing - FIREFIGHTING! I wound up getting out of the Army and became EMT certified. I was a volunteer firefighter back in college. With my degrees, volunteering as a firefighter, military, already being EMT certified; the second I took that test, I started getting calls 11 days later. Interviewed, took the physical, took the agility test, interviewed with the chief, did the background, the psych test, etc... Got hired within 3 weeks from the day I got the call. Good luck, I've rambled on enough.
