Fire Rips Through 99 Cents Only Store In Culver City

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand time, and it goes for the LA fire department and their neighbors: STOP making steam with your streams going to the roof, when you have fabulous access to get water at the seat of the fire. I suspect this fire burned everything up, rather than being put out by those elevated streams!

Having to set up a ladder pipe on a tiller ladder is 1940's technology. There's NO reason not to have a pre-piped waterway on any ladder.

The way LA city is set up is, a engine with a just an engineer is married up with the truck, it's actually very efficient, they can carry more equipment. They're called a light force and when the full staffed engine is dispatched , they are called a Task Force. The pre piped ladders can get in the way. These truck companies are designed to open up the roof quick, while the engine company is inside. They only set up ladder pipes when they need to go defensive. LA city sets theirs up very quickly, I did notice Culver was having an issue. Cant speak on that.

GARY HESS : so there comes a time when the cooling property of water no longer defeats the BTU’s the fire is producing rendering water useless. My guess is they were trying to slow the spread of embers towards the end as well as exposure protection.
