Fire Stick TV Remote REPAIR Intermittent operation or Pairing Fails! Fire Stick TV Remote Not Working Or Pairing (Simple Fix).
This video sheds a weak point in the hardware design of the Amazon Fire TV and Fire Stick design. The internal contact pads in the remote can loose tension over time (or from dropping the remote several times) leading to intermittent operation. This is meant as a LAST RESORT FIX prior to ordering a new remote. Obviously, you should try every other method of restoring remote functionality, but if you have installed fresh batteries and the remote continues to start / stop responding to user input and refuses to pair it's a good bet this is your problem.
BEFORE you take apart your remote:
- Install new batteries
- Try to re-sync the remote (hold home button for 10 seconds)
- Unplug power to the Firestick or FireTv for 10
seconds, try to re-sync again
- Clean the power connectors in the remote’s
battery compartment, try to re-sync again
- Use the Amazon remote APP to force a re-sync

I had already ordered another remote when I came across this video. The remote had gone through a Sanitize super hot wash cycle twice, having gotten caught in the rubber gasket before I knew it was gone. I knew it was toast, but I followed your instructions and the darned thing came back to life. I’m keeping the new remote because I’m sure I’ll eventually tear this one up! Thanks for a great video!

The reset and pairing totally failed numerous time and I ordered a new one. However I saw your video and gave it a shot and it worked! I cancelled my order and am very happy about it. One little trick - I only took off only half the back cover along the battery side and was able to lift the connectors and fix the remote.

Thanks , it worked. My batteries had leaked and the alkaline liquid had sweeped into the round contact to which the springs are connected. I cleaned the springs and battery contact with vinegar and put them back in and guess what...the remote started working. Now for those who are unable to break open the remote properly, I have a suggestion. Insert a small tipped flat screwdriver either on one of the sides or bottom of the remote. Once a hole is made, swipe a small tipped knife across the edges and this make it easy for you to open the remote with less damage. Thanks #Mods and Projects#..once again.

I tried everything all the other KZbinrs described and nothing worked. When I opened the casing which was almost impossible, I bent the metal parts as you showed, which was quite easy to do, and now my remote is working. Thank you!!!!!! Note: didn't work the first time so I went back in and bent them even more and voila!

Just got mine semi working again. Thanks is for the video. 2:50 to 3:05 is CRUCIAL guys. Before you pull out the pocket knife and start messing with the directional pad trying to make it function or "get unstuck", smack the bottom part of the remote. Atleast one of the four contact pads are lose and a whack or two may resituate it. You may regain functionality this way without having to take the remote apart.

Boss! Thanks. It worked! I had tough time to open from the joint. Once It was opened (edges got damaged - but that's OK). I lifted the contacts as explained, cleaned the springs behind the battery using sanitizer (there were deposits of leaked battery liquid). Cleaned the motherboard using soft cloth & sanitizer. I replaced the batteries, used white tape to stick the side edges (were hurting hand) and tied with rubber band on top & bottom......VERY SATISFYING....SAVED MONEY ! THANKS AGAIN !

Thanks for this, just fixed our remote. Caught the dog chewing on it, he had managed to flatten one of those contact pads when a tooth smashed the fast forward button. Everything is being held together with a rubber remote sleeve at the moment.

I had the same problem. The batteries on my Firestick are positioned differently. One on top of the other. It seems the contact for the top battery(+) is too recessed for the battery to make proper contact. So I pressed a small wad of aluminium paper in the hole where the contact is. I inserted the top battery first with the + contact pressing on the aluminium paper and inserted the bottom battery. It works perfectly now. No need to buy another remote. What’s really weird is sometimes the remote has a mind of its own and goes from 0-99. I have to race to the power button on the tv and turn it off. Wild. I was looking on e-bay for a new unit THANKS....Yes i did drop my remote several times recently Tried to reset the box. ,that Didn't work,Tried the pairing, and ,resetting it. all to no avail. Yes it is a little difficult to take it apart. I had some smaller screw drivers and a couple of mid size,Along with a pointed ice pick. took some time to do I wanted as little damage as possible. It snapped right back together. if you do not have the tools, i would say 'best of luck'. Or your going to need, both glue and tape!!! Did what you instructed,and BAM!!! All is well again. thank you again.

Excellent video, gave me confidence to split open case & following your instructions control worked. Took repair one stage further in line with subsequent video & added soldered in hard wired connections then glued up case. Bomb proof, will withstand being dropped & still work. And done! The rubber bands are on now.... I have a sideclick that covers one whole side so decided to destroy that side. I noticed notches under the lip on top, bottom and sides. The bottom notch will pop if you wedge a flat tip in real good and turn. Try to do it in way as to not ruin the sides to bad, it works. Once it pops in one corner you can wedge a flat tip long ways and wiggle while cracking the glue. Once one whole side is unstuck get your fingers in and work the rest uncracking the whole back off. One side does have a lot of screwdriver marks so I sanded it down and it looks real good. I cleaned up all the previous glue points and fixed up any bent plastic and spread crazy glue around the entire edges without spilling over the outer lip that shows. It works perfect thank you.

This worked for my Insignia Fire TV remote, as well! Stretching the connection points was my solution when all other trouble shooting failed. Only difference is that the Insignia remote is built differently, so had to figure that out on my own. After taking out all the screws under the battery cover, I still had to force/pry that sucka open! Easier to put back together tightly with screws, so no super glue needed. THANKS FOR VID!

Yes it worked but I don't really know why. My remote is 3rd gen and is thus already soldered and has the batteries stacked end on end. I forced it apart and put it back together and it works. Thanks for showing us how to force the case open and saving me having to wait until I return to the United States to get a new fire stick. With this remote repaired, I am now able to watch the tv and don't have to use the phone or tablet app to control the fire stick.

Thanks. VERY MUCH ! I had let the batteries leak so not only did I take it the ornery, ornery remote apart I had to take out both the battery contacts attached to the spring and long wire contact. If you twist the contacts very gently away from the springs you can separate them and clean out all battery acid out of the inside and outside of the contacts and springs with baking soda with just enough water to make a very thick paste (just like a car battery) . Also put bottom of both sides of remote in the baking soda solution. Rinse several time and let air dry or dry with a hair dryer. I don't know all the correct terminology but hopefully you get the idea. The multimeter registered 128 using 20 v and the "A," far left insert
