Since it was asked in the video, yes, the "partial burst" feature of the M16 is correctly modelled in game. Prematurely stopping a three-fire burst will result in the next trigger squeeze to fire the remaining one or two bullets.

Served with the US Marine Corps and even in 2013/2014, rifle magazine retention was drilled into us hard, but the reason was related to the Taliban making IEDs with equipment dropped on patrol due to the likelihood another patrol may absent mindedly pick up the magazine thinking it had remained hidden until... boom. Magazine reload drills ALWAYS included mag retention whenever our Platoon Sgt or Squad Leader made us race each other.
@brobuscus11522 жыл бұрын
Thats super interesting! I figured it would have simply been a more esoteric reason of keeping magazines to manually load rounds into assuming you run out mid firefight.
@definitelynotfbi1192 жыл бұрын
@@brobuscus1152 It had a lot to do with how we operated as well. Our patrols were mechanized with the exception being short range security patrols. The vehicles would drive us to a drop off point, move to overwatch, our foot patrol would continue for 3-5 hours, with the vehicles shadowing 2-300 meters away. So we would pack our vehicles with filled mags in case it went Alamo. Also whenever we would call in a casualty evacuation report (9-line), we would request an ammo replenishment and the medical team would drop off shopping bags full of mags and belts for M240s. Idk if they ever delivered .50 cal link before though.

Yeah, I've got no military experience but I've heard tales of why you cannot trust ammunition you find in the field, even from apparently stashed ammo supplies. Bullets that make the gun explode, among other things. The us had a project called eldest son in vietnam doing all sorts of things to vietnamese ammo. Vietnam did similar things with us stuff. Plus I imagine leaving a mine under a magazine on the ground would be an effective trap.

your absolutely right about the variable rate of fire in the guns, you can hear it and even feel the recoil differences that come with it. While the PKM belt might look like it’s feeding correctly it doesn’t have the Soviet style empty belt coming out the other side. They use 50 round non-disintegrating link belts that come out that are supposed to be picked up and reused. Which is surprising since this is one of the few games I’ve seen that actually show links as well as empty brass ejecting from the M249 and the M60. A minor thing to be sure but the game is trying for realism after all. It can also be a visual indicator of how much ammunition is left in the carrier, if the gunner knows how many link belts have dropped off and how long the current one is.

Those M-16's in the beginning reminded me of my first service weapon when I deployed to Iraq in 2003. They sent me to Ft. Hood from 3ID for "Casualty Replacement" . Basically a giant group of Infantry from varrying units, with varying skills, that would replace the injurrd up North. When they issued our weapons they gave us refurbished M-16 A1's, like Vietnam service M-16's 😆. They swapped the Auto selector for three round burst, but it still had full auto engraved on the side 😆. I think we had the oldest service rifles in the military back then 🤣 🤣 🤣. Eventually I was moved up to a janky M-249 that a soldier had abused thoroughly. It was the M-249 with the rotating, collapsible, stock, and the kid got so mad doing mission, after mission, he THREW it, and broke the upper retaining pin on the collapsible stock. If it dropped on you while firing or moving, the open bolt could fly out the back and smash you in the face, shoulder, chest, or your battle buddy 🤣.
@sirmuffincat66302 жыл бұрын
Also note that the AK-74 is automatically sighted to 440m, which was standard doctrine in the Russian military for the time. The idea was that you would aim for the belt line of an enemy soldier and typically the rounds would land around the chest area.

The M21/XM25 weren’t really adopted, they were mostly in testing. In Vietnam they just scoped the M14, there wasn’t a new designation for it, again, not in widespread use. It was more a company level decision to implement them rather than a wide scale Army weapons program. The M21/XM25 can have a variety of different parts to them to include match grade barrels, match sights, match guide rod and bushing, painted wood/fiberglass/polymer stocks, a multitude of optic mounts, scope bases and scopes and even into the invasion of Afganistan and Iraq, many of these weapons with these upgrades were still just M14’s with the selector switch welded to semi auto. They weren’t given any new designations en masse or any official doctrinal roles until the M14 EBR and MK14 MOD 0 came around.

16:35 - The AK-74 in the game has an early date on it (although the serial number format is honestly a bit weird). However that means an AKM gas block would actually be more correct, because that's how early AK-74 rifles were built. In fact, Tula made Soviet AK-74 rifles had the "OG" gas blocks as late as 1981 at which time all Izhmash produced ones already had the newer type.

As a player and modder in Reforger, the m203 leaf sight is actually animated to flip up on use of the m203 but the code currently doesn't call for it. Inconsistency spotted: Although the game's PKM machinegun seems to cycle the belt though the weapon realistically, we do not see the belt on the other side of the weapon as if it used NATO-style disintegrating links. The PK and PKM use non-disintegrating metal belts which come out of the left side of the receiver with each segment still attached to the next.

The A2 rear sights are well represented, I understand why they don't model to the long range aperture because it'd be hard to see through a screen, while IRL it's still difficult but with training it becomes easy

They do actually model the 2 round burst thing, I've tested it myself

Keep Jonathan forever. The guy is the single best presenter on KZbin. Any chance of reacting to Far Cry 4?

Would be really cool if Jonathan made a video on *METAL GEAR SOLID 3* weapons. Been requesting for so long. So many weapons in that game to comment on like the patriot, the EZ gun, Snake's M1911, Ocelot's SAA and Eva's chinese mauser clone. Want to know your take on the Boss disassembling Snake's 1911 without removing the slide stop and many many more...

I reckon you should do either metal gear solid 4 or mgsV (mgs5) I reckon there is a very good range of weapons and some good possible cursed guns to make Jonathan hurt inside for all of our visual pleasure

Next TARKOV wipe there will be the g36 and AUG but even without the wipe we need Jonathan to react to more TARKOV guns

"We got some clipping issues with the, the users face and the stock, which is clearly not intentional... I'm sure is going to be addressed..." Oh, yes, I am sure they are clearly going to address this... they did with ARM... oh... I uh... I wouldn't hold my breath...

I was always curious with the PKM, When shooting this thing, the brass, shoots out the left of the gun, and it's going to hit your arm with hot brass!!
