As to Johnathon queerying why Tandem rounds aren't always the first choice by players in Squad, you have to manually rearm your weapons (including AT ammo) using ammo points. Tandem rounds cost signficantly more of these points than regular HEAT rounds, so they're more expensive to take from FOBs (player built, resuppliable spawn points) or from riflemen (a role in game where you have an ammo bag for portable ammo points to resupply from). This means that holding on to your tandem (you get one ammo of each type) until you either really need it or can make sure you hit your target is a good idea, because it could be a while before you can resupply one. It's typical tactics in Squad to use your HEAT round to destroy/damage the engine, wheels or tracks of your target and then, once its disabled, line up the tandem round with a weakspot and destroy the vehicle.

I carried the M249 SAW (the American adaptation of the Minimi) on my last deployment in 06-07. It had the solid buttstock and short barrel with a rail system where the hand guard would be. While I was in Kuwait, I went through a close quarters range. At the end of the day, the cadre did not want to turn in the extra ammo, so they asked anyone if they wanted to have some fun. I was the only one to volunteer. I do not know exactly how many rounds I fired, but I fired so much that I had at least 4 barrel changes. I fired from both belts and mags of which there was a good size pile of links, brass, drums, and mags at my feet. I did not have any malfunction of any kind. I was on the line for about 20 minutes, maybe longer. For the remainder of the deployment, I was the "heavy weapons guy". The VR game _Into the Radius_ might tickle Jonathan's fancy! Aside from the usual more realistic firearm interactivity you typically get with VR shooters, this one also includes the need to manually load your magazines (which are physical objects in the game that need to retained, since you can't use the gun without the correct magazine), bullet by bullet, from ammo boxes, in addition to needing to clean and maintain your guns and magazines. I'm not talking an option in a menu either! To clean the barrel, you need to tear off a bit of paper, attach it to the cleaning rod, and jam it into the barrel and move it back and forward. To clean the outside, you spray on some WD-40 and scrub it with a toothbrush. And you need to get at *ALL* areas of the gun, it won't be properly clean unless you scrub *EVERYWHERE!*

G'day mate; I was in the Aus Army when the HK417 Procurement came though. The reason that they were denoted as "HK417" instead of an F prefix is because they were purchased as an off the shelf solution to requirements in the MEO. They were never fully supported and when they broke, they were discarded. There's lots of conjecture around why this was done, but typically procurement or inception of a new system Army wide is a pretty big process. The Aus Army's philosophy is to train and equip for THE war, which is the war to defend Australia, and not A war, which would be Afghan/Iraq etc..... With that in mind, the capability was seen to be a requirement for MEO Forces only and not something that would need to be adopted broad scale. The other rumour that was kicking around was that eventually the steyr's would be upgraded to what would become the EF88 and that version would have an optic that would provide a DMR capability to all troops. The HKs were issued out i believe 7 years before the EF88 would be a thing so i'm not sold on that idea, but the TLDR is, it was called the HK because it was bought off the shelf with no plans of maintaining it or retaining it post the MEO. We also had some M110 go through as well but they were deemed to not be as good as the HK417. In 2016, something like 50 of them that were never pulled out of the boxes were sent for destruction..... heart breaking

I don't think they are hipifiring. I think in most "modern" military shooters you are firing from a ready position but simply not using the sights. Now, I have never fired at a human being before, but during Airsoft events or action style close range target shooting, I personally use more of the line of the gun to vaguely aim. I think this is what most of the "hip firing" is now.
@User_Brandon2 жыл бұрын

@XMysticHerox2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can see it in the animations. There is no actual hip fire in squad.
@andyleighton69692 жыл бұрын
the other thing with "hip firing" is - as memory serves as it's many years since I fired a GPMG - although the gun is a beast, the feed system isn't "all that" and will only lift a few inches of belt. Any more and you're looking at a misfeed. Basically one good burst, and you'd be done. Not ideal CQBR material.
@dakdewolf2 жыл бұрын
YEP, Squad even added in (presumably after this was recorded) and "low" position to most GPMGs when walking around so you you have to bring up and ready the weapon before you can even fire. I thought it was the Australian update but I guess not. I know the M240B has it now.

I'm pretty sure the quad stack mag in the M249 Bucky had was the 100 round version. It always bugged me that they did that instead of a normal belt in the box. But I realized they probably never used blanks in that gun, so all the muzzle flash was done digitally. So if they had used belted ammo, it would have been clearly static whenever he was supposed to be shooting. So it would have either looked dumb (I've seen movies that did this and it's terrible) or it would have cost a lot more in digital effects to fix it.
@gabrielmalaguti55122 жыл бұрын
Also it's something different and unusual, every other time I can think of they've had that particular weapon it's been with a belt on it.
@ZeroSuitSamo2 жыл бұрын
@@gabrielmalaguti5512 yes because that's the way its supposed to be used. The ability to take magazines was just for emergency situations so the gunner could use ammo from other squadmates if he ran out. As he mentioned in the video, it doesn't work the best. I think the high lethality of bayonets (and often knives) in video games is entirely down to game play purposes. You're taking a melee weapon to a gunfight and if it isn't highly lethal then why would you ever be using it? Game designers have to buff the lethality of the weapon to make it viable because you just don't get that desperation forced hand to hand combat situation in a video game.

It also has very reliable and straightforward reload/safety/clearing procedures). Also, it's the only game I know that has portrayed the Hi-Point.

I used the Swedish version of the FnMag called KSP58 and yes we do shoot it from the hip and do practice doing so, however never aiming down sights when standing up. Main issue there is the brass casings are falling down out of this gun and that is where you would want to put your hand to shoot it while looking down the sight which would cause your hand to stop the brass casings. However there is usually a nice little handle used to swap barrels. And that one has a locked setting so that you can use it aggressively without the barrel coming lose. Holding your left hand on that and shooting the gun from the hip is very controllable as the gun is heavy enough to not let the recoil interfere too much. Then just shoot and correct where you see the dust from the 7.62 hitting the ground/tree/walls or whatever you have around your target

But ya, I dunno, guess devs never really used one before. Part of that too, like gonna have stripper clips…in order to feed one at a time…gotta unclip them…which adds soooo much more time to your reload in reality than just forcing the stripper in, and pulling it out with rounds left on.

A reaction to the first Insegency's workshop guns would be fun. There is a CZ Scorpion Evo 3 I'd like to hear his opinion on as I also own the gun irl and typically don't see it too much in games.

I’ll tell you this for the war heads they have for the rockets, the HEAT rounds you usually get more of and cost less to get from an available ammo supply and fly pretty straight where you want to shoot. While the Tandom round coast more, does more damage to anything really, cost a significant amount more to resupply and has a lot more drop off from the extra weight to it so you have to compensate more for it at longer ranges.

I'd love to see Jonathan take a look at the weapons in Receiver 2. There's only a handful (less than ten) but they're all meticulously modeled & deleted and you have to operate pretty much each individual part of them to get them to fire.

Kind of cool @ 18:59, the SKS gunner fires 11 rounds. Does the game allow one to top off the magazine somehow?

I second the already mentioned game Into the Radius as well as Receiver 2, a game focused on gun handling without VR.

One mistake Jonathan missed: RPD doesn't use disintegrating links.
@burgertanker79702 жыл бұрын
Another thing he missed is the fact that the SKS front sight is comically large when aiming down sights, AKM and AK-74 rifles also suffer this fate in the game but to a lesser degree

In game each team only gets 2 ppl who can use the HAT class which has access to 1 tandem and 1 HEAT warhead, each squad gets access to up to 2 LATs, usually meaning there are about 5-10 of these classes on each team (dependent on layer). These classes only have access to HEAT rounds, along with fragmentation rounds for anti-personnel with some factions. Certain factions also give both classes smoke rounds but this is rare.

If I had any power at all in the gaming industry I'd make a in game gun called "the Ferguson" I'd make it so wrong,It would eject rounds from the rear of the gun,But the magazine would be at the front sideways on,In a made up calibre .76 but have 9mm markings on it,Hoops for charms,Pump action and bolt operated one after the other,Reloads would insert in single rounds three rounds but then it Reloads 30. *A trophy pops* Angered Jonathan.

RO2 has the best cover system integration for an FPS, being able to "walk" the MG 34 in that from behind cover is very nice.

I'd love to see a future video on H3VR modded weapons- the modulAR and modulAK collections are a particular highlight with all the crazy customisation, but also Meatyceiver_2 (which introduces weapon jams), as well as vanilla H3VR features that weren't covered in the previous two videos that I think Jonathan would appreciate: tactical/retention reloads; reloading magazines with individual rounds including choosing the order of rounds (for e.g. you could have one mag full of tracers if you wanted, or alternating tracers and AP incendiary); using a shotgun to breach doors

US army uses M240 B, marines and spec units have a short version called the M240G, there's also an M240C which is a coax version, with rear controls similar to an M2 browning for mounted use on helicopters etc.

I’ve trained with the MINIME on my LMG course at Altcar and there’s no way unless you have ridiculous forearm strength you could reload it like you see in this video while standing up. I remember having to carry two of the buggers and extra ammunition on the way to the ranges and let me tell you 16 kilos of weaponnry starts to feel like 30 by the time you’re at the ranges😂 it was a very fun weapon system to train with though
@kylecole70682 жыл бұрын
That's a thing in Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, unless you're in a mounted position, all reloads are done crouching or prone, they'll force you to go stationary and crouch if you want to reload any MG.

6:00 SQUAD player tip; DO NOT DO WHAT THE TARGET OF THIS VIDEO DID. The last thing you want to do when you come under fire is go prone in a relatively open space and start reconsidering your life choices like that guy. If you're moving from point to point, finish the move and take cover there. If you're just traversing (like he was) find something - ANYTHING - and get behind THAT before going prone. And even if you don't know exactly where the fire is coming from or eyes on the target, if you have a general idea send some fire down that direction so that at least you're engaged in a firefight rather than it just being target practice for your attacker.

Only problem with the EF88 is it isn't issued with iron sights, but that was a dev decision to do that. The mod where it came from (as well as all the ADF assets in Squad) had them with a Spectre set to the 1x magnification or in some cases a F88 with with the 1.5x

I've seen a video of WW2 vets show off hip firing. When a modern solider said it was impossible to hit anything with a Thompson hip firing. The vet, who hadn't shot a gun since the war, walked 20 feet hip firing and hit his target.

Serial number 1! If I had the opportunity, I'd come to the Royal Armory just to see THAT. Could I touch it? I'd wear gloves. Edit: After watching the vid again, I like the way that the game depicts the loss of sight through the magnified scopes. Watch how this is done as the player moves the ocular out of the player's eyebox. I was impressed.

Either with some really good programming or incorporating an extremely accurate hitbox and physical on everything in a VR setting, which could take years, so you can properly incorporate the use of the bipods. And if we really want to go in the VR route, I would say I would rather it be a full dive VR system so you aren’t doing the awkward thing of having your hands float above or below the gun, making it much harder to properly use such an attachment on a gun.

I have used FN mag or KSP 58 to be exact in the army. it´s a bit heavy for a squad mg. the lack of forstock makes it imposible to shoot it from the sholder. So unless you are going to spray and pray. you got to have it suported by the bipod. it´s nice if the loader tells you where you hit.

Due Process has some really neat looking guns, if you want to check that out. It's an indie FPS that's basically what would happen if you combined R6 Siege and CS:GO together in a dystopian, cyberpunk world.

The problem with bipods, especially when the player is shooting prone, is how do you model the players fov. Because realistically, the player would not be able to turn without picking up the gun and putting it back down, so the field of aim would be so tight, that players would most likely just give up and don't do it

Inverse kinematics is what you're looking for Jonathan. It's the math (maths because you're British. Pip pip, cheerio!) that figures out where a character's feet should go when they're standing on stairs, or with one foot on a slain enemy and the other on flat ground. If you're ever come to a stop in something like the Witcher 3 or Elder Scrolls Online, the character's feet will go to the default pose, and then slowly "float" to where they "should" go. Might be computationally expensive to do with bipod legs, but it'd work I believe : D

The tandem rounds have a lower range due to the weight. They also have to be aimed higher above the target due to having to compensate for a much larger arc.
