If I may clarify my comment on the 'K' marking on the G36C - it's a C model i.e. 'Compact', so we would not expect it to have a K ('Kurz')-marked receiver. The obvious explanation is that it was built on a K receiver with a semi-auto only trigger group and C barrel, handguard and carrying handle - but UK police do not use the K so it's a bit odd. (NB - edited from my original comment as I made an actual mistake in that one!)

Hi Jonathan, I'm not sure what the difference is between C and K versions. However I know the UK Civil Nuclear Constabulary like to use the short versions of the G36. @@jehoiakimelidoronila5450 I suspect the issue isn't to do with the length of the barrel, but the marking on the receiver. The one Jonathan noted using the right hand to replace the magazine is for a partial reload for when the gun isn't completely empty. The point Johnathan makes about coil guns being rather unlikely is this: Carrying the power supply alone is an unreasonable burden for soldiers or military personnel (and will certainly be so in 20 years' time), considering the weight of regular equipment, which is seldom less than 30 kg. Batteries and electrical components in general are usually heavy and carry a certain potential danger for the user. Especially with the current doctrine of using unmanned equipment, such as drones, to keep the casualty rate as low as possible. A soldier who dies only brings something to the enemy side. I think it is more likely that we will move from projectile weapons directly to "energy beam weapons" than produce energy-loaded projectile weapons. But even that is still in an unpredictable future. Edit: Above all, a new weapon system must bring with it incredibly many more advantages than the existing ones. So here's the question: what does a modern M4 currently weigh with a loaded 30-round magazine plus the spare magazines in the vest carrier? Can the energy weapon undercut this weight and what other advantages does it bring me? We have all heard and read about burnt-out e-bikes and e-cars of all kinds and know how difficult these fires are to put out. I wouldn't want to carry a battery like that around in a combat situation. The projectiles that could potentially hit me are more than enough for me.
@derekp2674 Жыл бұрын
I'm sure Jonathan is aware of the ArcFlash coil guns but I think he was referring to EM guns capable of actually outperforming conventional "powder guns". As he hinted, a viable candidate threshold for that would require meeting or exceeding the performance of DMRs or anti-materiel rifles. The 10mm square bore railgun that I used to manage could accelerate 1 gram projectiles to around 3000 m/s but was powered by a room full of 8000 V capacitors. Our best ever firing rate was about 1 shot per week, but we were an aerospace research project, not a military technology development programme. Not least from current interests in electric vehicle developments, power supplies should be becoming more effective with regard to power per unit volume or per unit mass. But our experience was that power supply work was the least favourite part of the EM gun research, as seen by military funding agencies. That's why I really applaud the work that ArcFlash are doing.

9:40 Slapping your magazine is not allowed in the Austrian army (which I wasn't part of). If you have to slap your magazine to seat it correctly, your manufacturer need better quality control. If you slap the polymer magazine of an AUG for example, while the bolt is open, it's possible that the cartridges jump out of the magazine and get stuck diagonally in the action and you have to clear the gun before you can use it. It's not necessary either, the gun takes the magazine as it should and you only need to tug slightly to make sure the magazine catch engaged properly, as you should btw with any gun, so there's really no reason to slap the magazine in unless you like to make life more difficult for yourself

The HK G36K, the K stands for Kurz= short variant (total length: 833mm) , the C is for the compact variant (total length: 716mm).

I would have to re find the name, but there is a .22 caliber rail/coil rifle available for purchase in the U.S right now, it's $3,000 for a .22 cal, but it does exist
@akicsizzy6582 Жыл бұрын
I am not sure if Jonathan used to point out the technical inaccuracies of the fire arms, but, I noticed that the G36C in game hold 20 rounds in a magazine while as far as I know, it should be 30. Just thought I mention it...
@Sableagle Жыл бұрын
At 4:15, you say "six-eight is the metric designation for that cartridge." For _what_ cartridge? Something in .268", or maybe .275" if measured before it's fired, but you didn't specify.
@niklasw.1297 Жыл бұрын
How cool would it be if you had a crazy strong futuristic weapon (Railgun) but it has a quirk (You need to reload/manage both the magazine and power supply) *(cough Metros Tikhar and Railgun cough)*
@DjDolHaus86 Жыл бұрын
In theory (assuming you had the power source to run it) a rail/coil gun would have higher magazine capacity (with the same physical sized magazine) because it's only a projectile rather than a cartridge
@derekp2674 Жыл бұрын
True but then yo'd have to carry the much greater mass and volume of the power supply as well. There might also be a greater need to have some kind of sabot around the projectile, for example to provide the railgun armature and, depending on the application, the sabot mass may count as a parasitic mass, as does the propellant mass in a powder gun.

I sadly don´t know too much about your G36c and its markings. But in Sweden we say karbin instead of carbine and kompakt instead of compact. I have noticed that the English languadge seem to hate the letter K for some reason. Could it have been imported after having been marked?
@Curtisstollery Жыл бұрын
Is it possible the K in G36k stands for Kriminal? Like the ppk. Or it could be that it was made so it kept the G36C aesthetics but with a K barrel?

Canted iron sight would be useful with the use of a scoped rifle, although if you’re using a scoped rifle I doubt you’d be wanting to run around any close quarters buildings, but when that would happen it’s better having sights than attempting hipfire, but at that point why not have a canted red dot, or a scope that has a red dot or irons included onto it
@SgtKanyo Жыл бұрын
I didn't quite understand the part about the sights on the RM68. The russian optic, that looks like a picatinny rail version of the OKP-7, has it's own battery housing and to my eyes it seems the other sights as well. Is the rail on the gun looks so dissimilar to the picatinny rail that it wouldn't fit?

I didn’t realise the XCE BAR was real either, I figured since it somewhat gave me Desert Tech SRS vibes it was just a BF-ised futuristic iteration of that… Also can second that point about slapping mags while reloading. In Army Cadets we would get a grilling for doing that both in drills and when live firing the L98A2s or the L86 LSWs. Got it hammered into us that you kinda wiggle the mag when it’s in the well to ensure it’s seated… but never slap it.

@jonathanferguson Does the GR-1 "Anvil" not count as a handheld coil gun? I know it is not powerful and is gimmicky, but it functions none the less. Just your thoughts on it would be interesting. I know Forgotten Weapons did a video on it as well.
@aslamc9288 Жыл бұрын
Funny, the RM68 reload is how I reload bullpups, including magazine-fed rifles and bullpup shotguns. I find it much more natural and comfortable than using my left hand the way I would with an AR pattern rifle.

I'd assume that, with the G36, the "C" stands for Carbine which is "Karabiner" in German. So that might be where the confusion comes from. -> I just checked wikipedia, and apparently, the K stands for "kurz" (German for short), which amounts to the same thing.

@lordkillmore Жыл бұрын
I'm sure somebody already answered it , but the "K" , i would assume is for the German Version "Kurz"- literally "Short". Its a bit Longer than the C ( Compact ) I'm not sure about the Civilian Version but if i recall correctly the Military K variant didnt have a Picatinny Rail but came with the "Default" x3 and Red dot Optics - thats the only "odd" thing i notice here I loved the G36 when I was doing service back in the Day. Was nice to shoot and a blessing to have on Marching considering its low weight

The Railgun pick up in the Last Stand BF4 DLC is a bit more of what you're talking about. You don't change the battery, but it deals massive amounts of damage with a single round breach type loading system

According to a Quora comment: *G36C* - ultra short, barrel 228mm, picatinny optic rail with iron sights (polymer), mode of fire 0-1-2-D *G36K* - enhanced mobility, short to medium range, barrel 318mm, carry handle optic, mode of fire SEF

13:20 "There probably isn't a two-shot launcher." Off the top of my head, I think the China Lake is one. That's what it's called in Black Ops, I don't know what it's real name is.
@No-mq5lw Жыл бұрын
That's actually a pump action grenade launcher, almost like a scaled up shotgun. COD just made it load 2 rounds instead of the 4 the IRL examples could. China Lake is a name inherited from a military base that happens to do weapons R&D in the middle of a dried up lake bed (hence the name). Think that round and BF4's 3GL are a some take on the Metal Storm style of stacking multiple rounds and electrically firing them.
