Im pretty sure the reason for built in iron sights is explained in the main room of the campaign. Basically militaries mainly adopted better Helmet based optics that are cheaper than weapon based optics as they can be used on multiple types of weapons rather than being confined to just the soldiers primary rifle. Only special ops or countries that don't have the tech use sighted weapons
@DeadBeatDex2 ай бұрын
By helmet-based optics, do you mean a type of HUD like the Smart-Linking system in Halo that displays a crosshair on the visor? Do they ever state why SpecOps still uses them?

I love lore justifications for goofy design choices that in practice makes no sense regardless. Hmm yes militaries have helmet optics that make a lot of gun sights obsolete but that isn't one bit reflected in gameplay and instead guns still have iron sights or whatever sight of choice. I don't particularly care about iron sights being used in futuristic games, i just hate when games add some flavor text that in no way correlates to actual gameplay.

I got a good reason why this game features WWII firearms put through a futuristic lens: because it looks cool. Something about seeing older firearms given a massive design overhaul to fit a much more modern or out there aesthetic always looks so eyecatching, especially when weapons like the MP40 & M1 Garand have such unique silhouettes & engineering quirks compared to modern weapons. There's also something very reminiscent about Star Wars blasters & how they were repurposed prop WWII weapons made to look like weird spaceage energy weapons, with their more unorthodox shapes compared to more contemporary firearms helping to add to the illusion, while still being able to pass them off as relatively believable firearms.
@dfdedsdcd2 ай бұрын
I believe a lot of the "WW2" guns were added along with, or to be added to, zombies maps. Since the crews you play as in BO3 are either living in a place with a futuristic 40s/50s aesthetic or are fighting through an even more alternative history (yes more than normal zombies, this game introduced timeline fractures) WW2.

I also like to see Jonathan react to the guns of Binary Domain, which is a cyberpunk game taking place in 2080 in Japan, and the weapons that the main character squad, the Rust crew, are equipped with are basically futurized version of modern guns. And the robots that you fight also have their own standard issue guns, there's also the underground Resistance, who built their own guns. The game was developed by the same people behind the Yakuza games. I would also like to see Jonathan take a look at the guns of Vanquish, a 3rd Person Shooter from Platinum Games, the weapons ranged from futuristic assault rifles, shotguns, LMGs and pistols to energy weapons that actually use the main character's suit energy to fire, too bad Vanquish didn't sell well enough to warrant a sequel, which is a huge shame since the ending is quite abrupt. Another question for Jonathan and GameSpot (and possibly Royal Armouries): Would you consider doing a “What would it be like to handle this gun for real?” Where we get to see the gun being handled, reloaded, the action, how it handles when shot… but here’s the twist: add a first-person angle (with a GoPro or the like). Then you could do very cool comparisons of how it looks in real life against video game animations, like aiming and reloads. It would also be cool on some historical weapons (at least those you’d dare to fire) if we got to see era-appropriate firearms doctrine. Plus… game developers would possibly have some great reference material, so poor Jonathan won’t have to suffer!

Very disappointed with this one actually. Lots of the guns shown were added later on in supply drops with the sole intention of being modernized versions of those classic guns (M1 garand, Mp40, Famas) instead of going over more base game ones or even specialist weapons like seraph's revolver. It flip flops because there hasn't been an actual court case about this that draws the line in the sand so it's a bit fuzzy, companies like like Activision, IW, SLGH,Treyarc, do work with lawyers and representatives of companies like H&K and say what goes or not, fake name/look stuff is done to preempt such a court case not because its needed, but just in case. Stuff like the AK 74 matters less because it's so prolific as to the point that other countries have copied it as their own and a Russian company isn't exactly in a position to sue a USAmerican one, so that one has less of a need for fake names and it's up to the creative people instead if they're going to

Jonathan Ferguson the keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries museum in the UK which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history should dive into the Crew served weapons of Company of Heroes 2, like 120mm Mortars, PAK43, 40mm Bofors, 152mm artillery, etc

I very much want Jonathan the keeper of firearms and artillery at the royal armouries museum in the uk which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history to react to the highly realistic guns from Squad 44 (formerly post scriptum)

IMO, I think it would’ve been better for the dingo drum mag to be inserted in a degree then twist in. As well for the claws to lock into place when the drum mag is in the correct orientation to act as a double locking mechanism then release with the mag ejection. I would love to see them animate it that way instead of making it look like it was done by magic.

i feel like call of duty advanced warfare's guns would be interesting to look at, really would like to see the reaction to the IMR

That P90 does look a lot like the CZN-M22 from the '95 Ghost in the Shell movie, which was basically a P90 but given a bottom loading bullpup magazine, it looked a lot like a Famas mashed up with a P90. Seburo is the main arms company in that setting but this gun isnt one and their guns especially in the original comic tend be very round and less based on existing models.

I do love how he coins the term “X-gun in space” because- there’s no space levels or missions in the game!

For the ajax can you imagine your gun telling you "low on cyan" and refusing to print rounds?

Only way I'd see the MX Garand making sense in the context of BO3's setting is if it was an exotic weapon, probably more a collector's item than a military weapon. It kinda makes sense when you consider the fact you get your DLC weapons through Blackjack, a blackmarket arms dealer. Then again, I'm probably giving it way more thought than the devs ever did.
