That talk about fragmentation being modeled reminded me of one time, when a F1 grenade that I threw across a large hall exploded and I could visually see a shrapnel piece hit me and my armor took some damage. Truly a 1 in 1000 considering how few fragments are modeled.
@Zack_Wester
@Zack_Wester Жыл бұрын
I do wounder if the fragments are actually simulated correctly. or the game does a draw cheak whit the nearby players rolls a dice and if the dice roll says hit send a fragment there way and then send the remaining few fragments randomly.
@johnderouen1038
@johnderouen1038 Жыл бұрын
@@Zack_Wester In-game, pulling up the details on a grenade while it's in your character's inventory provides information about the number of fragments (between 35-100 depending upon the grenade) and both the lethal blast radius (2-8 meters) and contusion radius (between 7 and 13 meters). I believe Tarkov does model individual fragments, but the number can sometimes be one-quarter or less than IRL, presumably for reasons of computational expense. For instance, the RGD-5 apparently produces ~350 fragments IRL, but Tarkov only calculates 70. The lethal radius is therefore not a guaranteed "if your character is within this distance, they die" radius and is instead "if your character is in this radius and standing upright, you can expect to absorb enough shrapnel to die most, but not all, of the time" distance.
@The0riginalTwo

@@johnderouen1038 Grenades have 2 parts to their damage and you're right about the shrapnel, HOWEVER there is also a sphere cast as expected with most games - within a certain radius it means certain death, and then it starts diminishing until it reaches 0. You'll notice this if you've ever survived a nearby grenade hit where all of your body parts take the exact same amount of damage.

@@SpaceMissile that sounds annoying but i think i see why the devs did that. if you have a stoppage you’re technically supposed to inspect the chamber first to see exactly what’s wrong, however i think you’ll find a lot of users today perform immediate action (tap and rack) without checking first which clears 99% of stoppages so i also disagree with how that functions

The game is forcing you to take "remedial action" where you actually check and determine the cause of a malfunction/stoppage before attempting to correct it in whatever manner is necessary for the issue observed. The opposite option, what you're basically suggesting, is called "immediate action" which is a quick application of the most common solution for the weapon you are using, without actually checking first what is specifically causing your malfunction. The US army trains this way (like the M16/M4 "tap, rack, bang" drill) and while it does tend to be statistically faster and requires less training on understanding the mechanical action of your weapon, it can also get you killed if you've experienced a less common or easily resolved malfunction. I've personally witnessed someone attempt immediate action drills 3 times in a row without any success during training. Usually if it didn't work the first time you need to look it over before proceeding (plus your just wasting time with trying a drill that clearly isn't working again), but some people either don't know how to diagnose and fix rare/complex failures, or they've trained to a point that immediate action is basically a relex and each time the gun goes click they just do the immediate action drill without even thinking about it (in these cases they think of each time it failed to fire (went "click) as a new malfunction, even if it has failed again directly after their previous drill)

The pps43 on the other side is more compact and much lighter, so it would be better to carry around when you’re not actively in combat . The main advantage of the pps43 is the ease of manufacture… but if I were a Soviet soldier in 1943 I would trust more a ppsh41 to keep me alive. The pps43 would rattle enough to cause dispersion at 25m off target, I would have rather used it semi auto if it had a selector. Firing ppsh41 in short burst you just see the front sight shaking but the bursts stay on target, it gets off target only if you send really long bursts down range

@@GlamStacheessnostalgialounge Maybe the soviets had larger amounts of ppsh41 stockpiles and tooling to gift off to their countries of influence , so it was just more convenient for these countries to produce the ppsh41 over the pps43. Hmmm I didn't know the PPSh drum was 71 rounds, but knowing that it explains the box capacity of my surplus 7.62x25 ammunition that I thought a bit off. The boxes of surplus ammo I have came in boxes of 70, which seemed odd considering the tokarev pistol and original magazines I use it with hold 8, which I often down load to 7 so that the numbers line up. Though I suppose it was sold as hard primer sub machinegun ammo so I shouldn't be surprised, though now it does bother me that the stick mags are 32 round and the ammo comes in blocks of 70, surely they should be 35 round.

Doubtful that Jonathan will see this, but I wanted to just say in general that I really enjoyed my trip to the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds to everyone else in the comments section! It was definitely a bit of a detour for me, traveling back from Edinburg to London, but I personally really enjoyed the displays and exhibitions. Unfortunately I missed the events going on by a few weeks due to timing, but I highly recommend anyone else who enjoys arms and armor to take the trip if they get the chance! Leeds is a rather bland city all in all but the Royal Armouries Museum there is worth a day trip for sure.

Grand Thumb did a video about grenade launchers and their close range damage using a ballistic torso. Without any protective gear on the torso the grenade sailed through.

One detail that Jonathan missed (I've been waiting years to say that) is that when the player used the Milkor at close range it looked like he was using the m apers (I think) 40mm buckshot round. Very cool in game to use

Once the event is over you should really do another Hunt:Showdown video. The Alofs, Sparks Pistol, Obrez drum, Scottfeild, Uppercut and Lebel are all pretty interesting weapons I would love to see Jonathans take on.

Another entertaining reactions vid!😁 I kinda wish that he would check out The Division 2/1 games, but after Escape from Tarkov it may be a bit underwhelming. Still, it's a 3rd person game with gun mods and neat skill tech!

@@Mr_T_Badger I like suggesting The Division games because it's a 3rd person with tons of customization. Pretty much all the games on here are generic 1st person games. Plus the semi-futuristic skill devices may be worth mentioning.

About the "much maligned" part with the G36: The version the UK has (which he shows, export version with the low top rail) doesnt have the same problems as the genuine Bundeswehr configuration with the integral optics (shown later). The BW ones have a tendency to break zero after heating up, courtesy of weak plastics holding the optics. This was not in fact a mistake by HK, but a failure of the german ordnance department who wanted the cheaper option.

40mm HE round actually just penetrates human torso when it hits from a close distance. It's not blunt trauma at all, it's lethal. You can check Garand Thumb video about this for reference.

On the double barreled shotgun the right shell (slug) primer doesn't show the firing pin indentation after it's been fired. I also find it kind of weird that they show a brand name on the left shell but only "12 Gauge" on the right for a headstamp. Just being picky, as the overall images are simply amazing.
@Kraakesolv
@Kraakesolv Жыл бұрын
Most guns and ammo have their proper names in the game and if the slug doesn't it's most likely due to the company, in this case Remington I believe, being difficult threatening with trademark lawsuits etc. As for the intendation, it's most likely a bug. Usually checks are correct in Tarkov, at least on revolvers and shotguns, so it will be fixed I'm sure. It's still in beta and not finished. Super fun though and the best game ever imo. Edit: I checked again, zoomed in. The second has a spent primer too, it's just the light hiding it.
