Why does everyone in the comments assume the owners haven't taken him to the vet? Or at least discussed the issue with a vet? Just because we aren't given that information in a grooming video doesn't mean it's not happening. The amount of judgement against the owners in some of these comments is ridiculous

Agreed. The fact that the owners tried a different groomer like Vanessa is indication that they are not ignoring their dog's needs. Low weight can be caused by so many different conditions that are difficult to manage. Owners and groomers have to do the best they can. Dawn is a beautiful dog with that said.

Exactly. There's also the fact that they could already being medicating the problem if there is one, if any treatment has just started, it'll take a while to show results. My cat was very underweight at one point because she has hyperthyroidism and it took a while of being on medication to put the weight back on - plus you shouldn't overfeed to get the weight back, it needs to happen naturally and that can be slow. The fact the owners take him for grooming in the first place shows how much they love and take care of him.

My thoughts too. I don't want to be harsh. It seems like wright loss, change in eating habits, change in behavior, and possible pain could be playing a role and a trip to the vet to rule things out couldn't hurt.

I agree. It would be beneficial if he was tested for various problems. My guess is thyroid issues. I have Hashimotos disease and many of his symptoms resemble mine before my diagnosis. I hope they can figure it out. He is a beautiful floof ball.

I hope the owner sees a vet about this beautiful dog. Makes me wonder if he might have diabetes or some other health issues. He is a beautiful dog. I know one of my cats had a growth in his back leg and I didn't even know it until it started bleeding. I thought it was an abscess but I had the vet look at it the next day and it turned out to be a tumor, it was bad.

And these pets recognize that. They _know_ when they're being worked on by someone that genuinely cares. Especially dogs, who are pretty good at picking up human emotion since we radiate our intentions in multiple ways they're attuned to and have senses to detect, e.g., pheromones/scent. (Our smell literally changes when we're upset, aggressive, nervous, etc. as we do "leak" some of our "emotion" hormones through sweat and skin oil.)

He's so beautiful. I had one just like him, her hair was non stop shedding, we brushed her constantly and never ended the shedding. I didn't have a high velocity dryer, that would have been a god send, but she was such a precious girl. I lost her to cancer 19 years ago. Losing her left a hole in my heart for sure.❤❤❤

Im not surprised he was mad, those huge mats had to really hurt him and they took some time to get that big. I hope the owners start grooming him back there so he doesn't go through that again. Hes a beautiful dog. He may start eating now that the pain in his rear end is gone.

I had an underweight female cocker spaniel, she was naturally that size. To start with the vets made a huge fuss, like this dog she had access to food all day, was fed boiled chicken (we even fed her fresh farm tripe to try and get her to gain weight) eventually the vets understood it was just her. She was healthy, active and beautiful. So this could be normal for this dog, there's an average breed weight, to get an average there will be dogs over and under that!

I don't know if you could see it when you were towel drying him on the table, but when you worked on the back leg with the issue - he hunched his back. Which might indicate pain or anticipation of pain. I agree that the owner should take him to the vet. For him to be that underweight means he has not been eating enough for a bit of time and pain certainly could do that. I hope it gets all sorted out for him. Poor boy.

If he's not eating, he might need to go to the vet for an abdominal x-ray, to see if there's something stuck down there, that he ate, that he shouldn't have.

I'm sure it was incredibly frustrating in the moment, but the leg crossing was genuinely ingenious. Hope they figure out what his health issues are if any. The color-changing tongue is weird and scary. His not eating might be a simple matter of changing the food to something he likes better and not leaving it out so it gets stale, feeding him on a schedule, or he may have a gut issue that needs addressing. He's a gorgeous boy and what a character!

He did really good for being so scared. I have a GP mix too and she also tends to leave her food untouched. I already mix the flavors of dry food but I have to mix wet food in and water to make a gravy a few times a week to be sure she is eating.

About 1/3 in on the video. So far he hasn't stopped smiling. Suggest the owners get him checked our by a good vet. He may have something going on in his hips/pelvic area. They also need to give him a good brush & Comb every day as well as sort his food issues. Perhaps they should refer back to the breakers to find out what he was brought up on. He is beautiful. Well do e. My Sheltie hates her feet being touched. When her nails she really didn't like it. Never bit just didn't like it. Think she would have gone Bananas if I had pointed a hair dryer at her. Just had to pick a nice summer day, let her shake off any water in the bath. Wrap her in a towel & get downstairs out into the garden where she would smile, shake, run & roll to her hearts content. She loved shaking the water over me, as if I wasn't already wet enough. M

He seems like a very sweet but nervous dog. My 15 y.o. toy poodle is having the same issue regarding her feet due to arthritis. Seven is on the older side for a big dog, so he may be having the same problem. I gave mine pain meds the last time she got groomed, and it was a much better experience for everyone.

That’s what Jackson Galaxy recommends for cats. Its made a significant difference in my cats aggressive. Would be interesting to see if it’s as effective in dogs.

Agree on better food choice. add wet food or food topper, and the occasional egg. I would also experiment on 3 meals a day, so that he is not overwhelmed with too much at a time.

Oooh, Great Pyrs are MASTERS of that side-eye! My half Great Pyr half Anatolian Shepherd will give me side-eye when I tell her to get the hell out of my kitchen when I’m trying to cook. Nope, she flops down, sighs at me, or grumbles, and resolutely refuses to move, all while giving me “drop the chalupa”. Great Pyrs are a master class in attitude, for sure!

Great job. You can tell the owner loves their dog otherwise they never would have paid to take him to a groomer before you. Im glad you realized something was wrong. Animals are good at not showing pain or sickness because its in their instincts not too. Please let us know how he is if they tell you. Watching the animals you groom feels like they part of our family. If the owner is reading thank you for how much you love your dog.

Former vet tech here: between the apparent recent aggression, pain, hypoxia during a stressful event, and weight loss, it may be time to see a vet. Owner should especially see about checking his teeth, abdomen, bloodwork, as well as his joints. Many owners unfortunately think bad teeth just means bad breath. Severe dental disease can cause such great pain for a dog thay they may not eat, especially if the teeth are in poor enough shape that they need to be extracted. We've had countless pets whose appetite improved, even when they've had several or even all of their teeth pulled. As well, inappetance and weight loss can relate to abdominal pain, and can be caused by numerous possible ailments: from allergies, to an obstruction, to even a mass growth in the GI tract. Moreover hormonal changes and chenical abnormalities could be screened for with some bloodwork. All things necessitating a thorough medical exam by a vet. Hopefully it's just hom being a picky eater, but I hope the owners make sure. Thank you for taking such good care of this fussy boy! I wish him and his owners all the best❤

I had an older golden retriever who went through a similar type of weight loss. She started to lose her appetite and I thought it was her dog food, so I changed brands a couple of times. She continued to lose weight, so I took her to the vet, who did a complete a work up. They found that she had a hemangiosarcoma in her liver and she died shortly thereafter. Please get Don checked out by a vet ASAP.

😂 I hope the owner or Vanessa prints off a bunch of the diagnosis comments from the KZbin 'dog' specialists. Just so they can have a good laugh while waiting for the test results! Hopefully the issue is not to serious and easily treatable! This just underlines the value of a good relationship with your groomer or dog walker if you use one. Sometimes they will see differences in your pets health that the owner might not notice. Great work as usual Vanessa!👍
