If "The Train Job" felt very exposition heavy, it's because "Serenity" was originally meant to be the pilot, but the studio interfered, (as they would continue to do), and Joss had to write a new pilot episode over a single weekend. "The Train Job" is the one that premiered. It's too bad, because "Serenity" really sets up a lot more. I'm just glad you're watching them in the proper order. Also, Zoe is pronounced like Joey, but with a Z.

That`s part of the charm of this show. Part comedy, part sci-fi, part western. It`s a real mish mash, but somehow it all comes together and works great. The used to say that science fiction was just a western in outer space. This show took that idea and ran with it. And the comedy is important too. It wouldn`t work nearly as well without the humor.

Pay close attention to the background music style used in scenes. It changes depending on who's being focused on. This is true for the whole series

The underlying issue with Mal is that he's still recovering from losing the Unification War. That would leave anybody angry. The role of the Confederates after the American Civil War was one of Joss' starting points for the series concept.

No, this one was not called Bushwacked, THIS one was THE TRAIN JOB, it was a job on a train. The first one was called Serenity, not The Train Job. Episode 3 is called Bushwhacked. It seems like you are reading the episode titles from the order they were aired in, but watching in the correct intended order. ----- The episodes are arranged in their intended order on the DVD box set of the series. That order is as follows: "Serenity," "The Train Job," "Bushwhacked," "Shindig," "Safe," "Our Mrs. Reynolds," "Jaynestown," "Out of Gas," "Ariel," "War Stories," "Trash," "The Message," "Heart of Gold," "Objects in Space." The Fox order: "The Train Job," "Bushwhacked," "Our Mrs. Reynolds," "Jaynestown," "Out of Gas," "Shindig," "Safe," "Ariel," "War Stories," "Objects in Space," "Serenity." "Trash," "Heart of Gold," and "The Message" were unaired in the United States until "Firefly" began running on the Sci-Fi Channel in July 2005. ----- I don't know how far ahead you are in the series by the time this comes out on YT, but I hope you figure out that you are attaching the wrong episode names in your reactions to these soon! I did see that the picture for this one correctly says "the train job" on it so presumably you realized what was going on by the time this was edited. Heh. What Fox did to screw up this show was unconscionable...
