Saw an interview of Sir Elton where he was talking about his time at the Royal Academy. Said he was never good enough to play in the orchestra, he did sing in the choir. His talent was his ability to play back a piece of music he’d only heard once & play it identically, at a very young age. His music writing ability is phenomenal, he’s stated many times that when he gets lyrics from Bernie, he “sees the music like a movie” and it happens very quickly for every song they’ve written.

What you hear on this is Elton playing. There might be a guy on the sound console with a keyboard who is getting the sounds right, but the playing is EJ's - its utterly distinctive. I'm a pianist, and it isn't easy - you don't win a junior scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music without talent. To get things in perspective though Elton isn't a virtuoso player, and I've never heard him claim to be. He's bloody good though; add in his songwriting, singing skills in, and you have quite a package.
@powerstroker0622

I think the "guy on the sound console with a keyboard" is legitly a sound module routed from the piano.
@isaiahshelley
@isaiahshelley 7 жыл бұрын
Matt Yolo you are right. All of Elton’s piano sounds come from Various sound modules. Elton has used many. But the main ones are: The original Yamaha Motif Rack Module for its PowerGrand Voice, The Roland MKS-20 Rack Module (module version of the Roland RD-1000, the piano Elton used from 1988-1993), the Technics WSA1R Rack Module (to get the EP Sound for Philadelphia Freedom, Daniel and Blue Eyes) And before the Yamaha Motif Rack came out Elton’s Team used the Alesis NanoPiano Module for his Acoustic piano sound mixed with the MKS-20.

Yes it's a Yamaha digital grand which means it has many sound samples - Fender Rhodes/Wurlitzer as here, but Elton does NOT need another piano player off stage for this kind of gig - he's one of the most accomplished pianists there is! He uses other keyboard players with the band to cover additional parts like strings/brass etc. And it's not easy! - to be able to play, sing, write and perform material like this is a rare talent - he's one of the most successful recording artists ever!

Yikes. Thats all wrong info lol pianos a regular concert grand but has MIDI pickups and is connected to different sound rack modules like the classic MKS-20, Technics rack, he use to use the alesis nanopiano but not anymore he runs the newest Yamaha Motif sound for his Acoustic sound. His grand is making noise from the shell he is hitting strings but obviously no one can hear it cause the p.a. insane loud.

@Dan474834 The piano is actually a digital piano in disguise. Even normally it's a digitised sound. There's a pickup rack attached underneath the keys which lead to a Roland Synthesizer. It's the same synthesizer system that was used in the keyboard he used to play during the 80s. It's quite a high tech piano :p

its very easy to understand lol Elton has real Acoustic Yamaha grand its modified with pickups so he can use MIDI the MIDI cords run to a rack of digital piano modules in the back off stage. His sound engineer is off controlling the layering and sound levels for each song. Everything is Eltons playing its running thru a the rack and to the stage the rack has its a Roland MKS-20 (rack version of RD-1000), an old Technics module called the WSA1R, and Yamaha Motif ES units. Its easy to achieve the sound! I dont own a Technics unit I have the Yamaha Grand and the MKS-20 from a program called Keyscape. Its a computer VST software that has pulled the sounds from the MKS and TONNNSSSS of other pianos and sampled them into this software so I can now layer the MKS with the Yamaha grand preset and achieve Eltons sound its insane!!!!! If you havent checked out Keyscape I recommend it to everyone who cant get their hands on the older musical instruments. Its the best of the best and the sounds are the purest most beautiful thing Ive ever heard. heres a vid on it! kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZ28k6CulqeiY6s
