Great axes may be lacking in pen but let's not forget the legendary great axe with sunder.

Voidforged Gladius is great for pvp/pve. That and the Bane of the Dead are both amazing for pve dot stacking from the safety of a sheild. Daggers and Yogs are still great for direct damage but require way more strength to be useful in pvp. Can't argue with results I haven't lost a duel in over a year when I'm holding one of these. Definitely looking forward to the new greataxe/katana changes.

I personally don't like the way swords feel when attack, so I use Yog's Touch partial strong combo and if I have a large target I use Venom-Infused Daggers to get 10 stacks with 2 full strong combos and then the axe for bleeding, so the bosses just melt, and with my thrall using Aja's Bane, the armor is melted too, so 10 stacks of venom, 10 stacks of bleeding and no armor

This seems like you're comparing the best version of the short sword to a mediocre version of everything else. Just because the damage is the same on the combos for your short sword. I bet it's not the same for the other weapons. Seems lazy to say well its the same damage output for the weapon I'm using so therfore no speacil attacks + combos on the other weapons or heavy combos in the matter. Seems like a stacked deck

Thanks for the break down. I enjoy shortsword and shield myself. Shortswords are excellent up close against a single target. Their good stats and great heavey-light*4 combo counter balance their short range and lack of an inherent debuff built in (such as axes causing bleed, swords crippling, ect). I have had enemies get pushed out of the shortsword combo, leaving me swinging at air. Gray one shortswords carried me early game (such fast bleed) and the void gladius is an excellent later game. Their high damage and armour penetration help them to not be useless against undead and other things immune to dots. I have had trouble reaching the hit boxes of certain very large creatures with daggers and shortswords, so that's something to keep in mind. Also, when facing multiple foes, they also lag a bit. Getting locked into the combo while there are enemies nearby can be very painful.

You can kill way faster just using the heavy and 5x light combo, light, heavy, repeat. Master fitting is better too. You can definitely get some other weapons close to it’s time to kill as well easily.

If you ever have the time, patience, mental fortitude etc. it would be interesting to see a comparison of the hidden combo for the short sword and the hidden combo for the katana. And are there any other weapons with hidden combos?

@@Firespark81 3 light attacks, and then the dash (currently heavy). The dash hits 4 or 5 times according to Hosav's ui doing high damage on each hit (there does seem to be a variable element in the damage caused each time the combo is used, though it will be the same for each of the 5 hits). It was working on test when I tried it, 3 light then the special attack rather than heavy. There is no visual que for the multiple hits, it just looks like the normal dash, so it's easy to miss what's happening. Really for all I know it could just be a bug rather than a deliberate combo, but it's pretty effective.

My only issues with short swords is that they don't allow for much in the way of multiple target damage and they have very low stagger resistance.

Honestly, I consider that an excellent balancing feature. It keeps them from being over powered. They retain significant strengths, while not being the best tool for every situation.

@@Firespark81 Sure, adding more I-frames to their attacks or giving them more AOE would be super unbalanced. My dislike of getting knocked around and stunned just typically leads me back to using the one handed axe, since their heavy sequence is nearly impervious to interruption.

I would say 2hand Hammer and spear are still legit regarding the stats and the fact they have extra range, making it easier to touch the combos without taking damages in PvP. Especially if you destroy the armor of the armored target with the hammer, you would do A LOT more damages on the second combo (something like 100 mode damages i believe)

Little of column A little of Column B. Their highest damage is 55. So I think its safe to say they will never come close to the DPS of other options. But I suppose I should do a follow up video with them.

I use this weapon exclusively now, I used to use an axe and shield but not now. I still have a shield against the spear but there is a defensive move you have using this weapon against a spear that I discovered when fighting the Judge.

The Predator Blade is the highest damage of all weapons from I've found online and I happen to have it. The Gladius is 73 damage and The Predator is 97.

With the katana u have to do 3 light and 1 special for the most damage, so i think it's useless to compare the shortswords heavy light combo, to the katana's light, because u normally use the 3 light, 1 special combo

You didn’t even mention this weapon is gated behind the improved blacksmith bench at level 30. Rabid Milly is an easy kill and her camp is a 2 kill breach to get her loot then flotsam for weapon handles and you have everything you need including the fragment of power to trade for the recipe. Also I suggest everyone put a master weapon fitting on it ASAP because this will get nerfed. Funcom hates fun.

What do you think of the short sword of the grey ones? I used nemedian helmet to get the durability to max and put a spiked weapon to increase armor pen. It looks on par or stronger than this weapon. Easy to repair with master repair kits. Seems broken.

I guess that each weapon have an optimal combination of heavy and light attack to produce highest possible damage. Comparing the optimal attack combination with the gladius against only light attacks don't seem to as a fair comparison, even though the gladius seem pretty unbalanced at the moment.

Star Metal Short Sword in exile lands is also good for PVE. Still one of the strongest weapons in the game for fighting npcs and bosses on an agility build.

!WRONG! The strongest short sword is not the Voidforged Gladius but the Shortsword of the Grey Ones. And it doesn't have just higher damage and armour pen, it also applies bleed and is only high grade. Also, why were long swords and daggers and claws excluded?

In test live the weapons with bleed effects are all worthless since it only adds 1 bleed no matter the number of attacks. It is trash now.

the grey ones weapons use way too much stamina, you can spam the gladius light combo until you run out of stamina and you can hit with the grey one a few times before having to wait.. also when crafted with a named thrall and a weapon mod the damage of the gladius go through the roof.. its like you guys didn't even wath the video..

The short sword can be crafted as every other weapon in various quality, from steel to stellar in exiles, you can craft one in the first men forge that deals 70+ damages without mod and you can buy the blueprint in the central tower to forge the void one that WAK shows here.
