Firewhistle, My Favorite New "Vanguard"

Unlike Ashlock, Firewhistle S2 has melee AOE, allowing her to open versus rush maps that Ashlock can't. The AOE is really useful too, since it spreads and can clean up a unit in front of her as well as you'll see with Gummy. Outside of the advantage of doing arts damage and just being a Fortress defender (silly strong class), being a strong opener is one of the things I've thought Firewhistle is really good at compared to other units, and it's amusing I got to show it off already on this boss stage.

Pretty simple strategy since phase 1 has to be bursted and phase 2 basically plays itself, but a 200+ aspd boss makes it a bit difficult to survive, which is why we need Vulcan to eat invisible blades while everything else dies.

Now hear me out Since Firewhistle is a Vanguard, that means anyone deployed before her (Nearl in this case) is also a Vanguard. Now Ashlock with S2 drops her block count to 0. You know who else drops to 0 block count on skill? That's right, flag Vanguards. That means Ashlock is also a Vanguard. But wait, Gummy is ALSO a Vanguard. Source? SUPAH, I trust him.

I wanted to build Firewhistle / more defenders, but I spent all my LMD promoting Reed alter and Lin, but luckily I can get a bunch from the event shop. As much as I enjoy / use Horn I'm sure I'll get firewhistle built pretty soon. Also, I got her to like pot 9 from rolling Lins banner, so she definitely want to be on my team.

This video makes me wish we have another 6* fortress, range expands and fire a napalm with normal Texas s2 range, dealing DoT while slowing them, can hold 3 stacks. Basically upgraded firewhistle but with Manticore slow.

Ashlock is still better imo but, Ashlock = Physical damage, Firewhistle = Arts damage

How about general use? Right now I see using firewistles s2 more than ashlocks s2 because it doesn't restrict blocking. But ashlocks s2 looks more efficient since it only requires 18 sp on me which is fast.

​@@nrostova5606 In my opinion I would still prefer ashlock cause her skill 2 charges relatively fast compared to firewhistle so she can dish out more dps; the blocking does not really bother me that much because I place her in a position where enemies wouldn't leak to her so she can focus on dealing damage. Firewhistle is also pretty good, normal attacks deals physical and s2 deals moderate arts damage to deal with high def enemies which ashlock might struggle on and she can block while attacking too, the downtime of her skill is actually not that bad 40 seconds on M3. So to answer your question for general use, well it really depends on the map and enemies you can always swap them both depending on the enemies, like if there are like high res guys ashlock would deal with them, if high def then firewhistle OR better yet why not use them BOTH! the more the merrier But hey at the end of the day don't let my opinion sway your decisions on who you want to build/use its just a opinion from a stranger after all, both are great units on what they do

From my limited experience of using them, they can both works for general use and depends on the rest of the team. Usually, you dont use fortress for blocking. You set up a choke point and let them rain on it, this is especially true for ashlock. For ashlock, she is generally better than fw because of her really quick skill cycle. However, she is physical, so if a few elite defender flock your choke point she might not be much help. Firewhistle S2 doesn't have any +atk or +aspd, only shot 6 times regardless of skill mastery, and cost 40sp. However it deals arts damage, a few seconds of STACKING AoE burn, and the burning field works on both her ranged and melee attack. She will not help much against a swarm of mob enemies but she will be a great help for bursting down tanky elites. So, its obvious on how the 2 works. One works as a sustainable additional dps and the other one works as an AOE burn art damage burst, which one better for you is up to you. . I will keep using horn, though. She gotta pay her M7 before i finally sold to give her M9, lol.

Its a play on what "vanguards" are. Vanguard is the opener or front liner of an attack. In arknight they also do the job of printing additional dp to make all other operator deployed faster. But "Vanguard" is still the "few operator deployed first as an opener before all other operators" and we see here Firewhistle is deployed as the second operator on the field. So it checks out !! Firewhistle is a vanguard (in a play setting where only defender are used, because her DP is relatively cheaper).
