awesome info, I am totally interested in this board now. you were ripping those small waves, it looked effortless so it makes me to try. I need to get on the boss up still. haha but revo max is on my radar now. cheers brotha

Thanks mate, stoked I could spark your interest in it. The 6’0 would be great for you (think I already said that somewhere else? Haha) Yeah the board is super fun in small/medium surf - as long as it’s a lil somethin. It’s so flat and thin which is cool. I wanna try a Boss Up too but not too interested for some reason - I’m stoked on Ibolic tho so I’m down. I like this 6’3 length is sad part, I don’t wanna go longer anymore unless longboard now lol. I rode it in bigger gnar waves yesterday and glassy big surf today, and finally ‘almost’ slid out once or twice (but didn’t) - but I could tell the board can handle bigger surf and it worked well - also that’s just where the large fines will do better. Perhaps the bigger the Revo Max, the better it goes in overhead surf and above.
@TravisVarga25 күн бұрын
@@chrro466 hmm I’d disagree as this model is made moreso to be a ‘bigger board’ which obviously doesn’t duck dive as well. I haven’t had the nose catching much at all - But it’s so thin and light I think it does duck dive better than other boards same length.

Just came across your review as I have been interested in the Revo Max. I went to my local surf shop to check out the 7'0" version......I havent ridden a board below 7'6" in the past 15 years as I am an older surfer with declining skills and I have never ridden a twin fin so I was a little skeptical. But after watching your review I think Im going to pull the trigger on the 7'0". Great review....thanks for sharing!!
@TravisVargaАй бұрын
Thanks Kevin - I appreciate it. Stoked for you and the 7’0 with 55 liters sounds like a winner. I’d love to try it at that size - I’d suggest the Large Tomos that come with it. Even if you’re lighter more hold prob better if not use to twin fin. Look forward to see how it goes for you.

Great review and edit! We look to be the same size and skill level. So…. Q- Which board should I get, SP OR REVO? Was looking to replace my longboard with a sweet potato or the revo max. Reason for the new board is so I can make sharp turns on small waves instead of just riding the nose on my longboard. I live on the gulf coast so the waves are weak and not steep. Looking for a board to handle waves under 2ft. 🤙🏽Thanks for your time!

Thank you - i went in to the depths of editing madness but came out alive. Copy that on similar dims as me, for gulf coast Florida I'd go either 6'4 Sweet Potato or 7'0 Revo Max (essentially the biggest options of both). If you're replacing the longboard as opposed to adding to it, between the two is tricky but - my thought process is the Revo Max could grovel 'longboard' waves a little better just because of shape, and it could even feel more like a longboard then the Sweet Potato. So would replace. But the SP has more of a 'shortboard' shape and perhaps allow little turns on super small stuff - and can play with more fin setups. This also would mean you keep longboard for mega grovel. I'd recommend just maybe keeping for the smallest of the small whichever option you go. I love having a longboard in quiver and would never not have one cause def comes in handy. If you like longboard shape more then pointy nose Revo Max also gets the win.

How does Revo Max compare to the Machadocado for these conditions? Which one would you keep in your quiver? Also which of the two would be best for a beginner/intermediate? Thanks!
@minniman24Ай бұрын
I haven’t had the chance to surf the Revo Max (yet 🤔), but I do own the Machadocado and it is a fantastic grovel to mid range size board. Looking at the Revo max fins that Thomo created for this board and I could see swapping them out for traditional raked keels to stiffen it up in the solid stuff (keeping the recommended fins for small to medium days). It looks like it could be a really versatile board….. maybe up the size a little bit??
@CrusifizerrАй бұрын
@minniman24 thanks for the reply mate! What's your dimensions and your level? As well as your Cado size?
@TravisVargaАй бұрын
Yes what @minniman24 said. The Machadocado feels more bloaty (in a good way) and much thicker rails. Revo Max stays super thin and flat. And because it’s a snowboard it keeps the volume without having to be thicc. The Revo is better in bigger waves, Cado maybe slight advantage in these types of waves. Just cause it packs more volume in general. But I like these twin fins more than Cado stock board fin setup. Me, pick one just one? I just don’t think I can haha let me think about that. For a beginner/intermediate I’d recommend an oversized Machadocado - 6ft or 6’2. I don’t know if the Revo Max is good for beginners, but if you go big better than small. Other issue is generally twin fins arnt the best for that stage in your learning - tri and quad fin setups provide the better hold you need. Thanks for your comment and hope that helps. I rode the 5’10 Machadocado also (I’m 5’10, 172lbs).
@TravisVargaАй бұрын
Thanks for the input. I def agree - I surfed it in bigger waves today and even large uprights I believe would be great. It didn’t feel slidey tho - and I can’t ride keels for a dam. Board enters its second stage in bigger surf - fast, almost fast as the mashup.
@minniman24Ай бұрын
@@Crusifizerr sure, 6’3” 220lb, 25+ years exp. I’ve got the 6’3” cado and find that it works in a variety of waves up to 6ft.Because of its moderate rocker and large tail surface area it’s only Achilles is super sucky beach breaks (at least in standard configuration - I found it tightened up adequately with the AM2 fins that day). It definitely loves 3-4ft wally point breaks or spots where there’s flat sections that you need to drive through. That Revo Max has me wondering though! It really looks like a versatile board that you could size up a bit then just use different fins for different conditions (kind of like a non-traditional 1 board quiver).

wow very impressive for such small waves. I did see the revo max at Hawaiian South Shore this past weekend. I wasn't sure about the center spine. it was sticking out of the board, but seeing you surf on it. I guess it works.
@TravisVargaАй бұрын
Awesome I love Hawaiian South Shore (their KZbin at least but I’m sure the store is nice). Yea the spine is outrageous - reckon it’s a staple in some of his shapes. I think it acts like a real ‘hull’ kinda boat (if you google it) - the bottom of the boat looks kinda like the bottom of the board - the board is a ship haha. Yea it works whatever’s goin on - thanks for watching.

I wonder how this would compare to the S Boss in larger sizes, like the 6'2. Which would be more versatile and what conditions would work best for each.
@TravisVargaАй бұрын
Yea interesting at similar volume. I reckon Revo Max is easier to surf and (as long as you kinda know how to ride twin fin) turn a little easier. S Boss (never ridden) seems more super high performance and still bladey even at 6’2. I did feel an S Boss under arm this weekend and felt great. Platypus nose on the Max makes it grovel better I’d bet and be slightly more versatile for smaller surf and flat sections in weaker waves. If super chop tho more fins with S Boss would help. Volcanic Ibolic of Max plows thru chunder tho anyway. Cheers.

@@terenceingram7786 thanks man. Yeah I realized yesterday during a bigger kinda more blown out session this board is solid as daily driver cause it can handle it all. Small/ kinda weird and bigger. @TravisVarga I have been riding various mid lengths that are performance from 6'5 to 6'9. I like them shorter as they give me the paddle power yet I still can ride them as shortboard. I am 6'0 and actually as a teenager my regular shortboard was 6'4 ... Kinda gives me good vibes
@TravisVargaАй бұрын
@@terenceingram7786 nice yea the 6’6 could be perfect for you - 6’9 if you just wanna have max float. It has that great mid length feeling for sure. Love that it’s a twin fin and as long as you figured out twin fins at least a little your off to the races.

@@eyalpolishook6486 If that's your liters you like, the 6'0 at 31ish liters makes the most sense. The 6'3 is 35 liters so will have more paddle power and act more like a proper mid length for you. 6'0 more nimble and short-boardey.

Thanks for the comment. I would think 165/175lbs and under is Medium. 175lbs and over is Large. I’m 170ish so can do either - I like the medium for the surf in this video. I rode it in bigger surf last two days and still was fine, but I wouldn’t have minded the Larges for some extra hold.

@TravisVargaАй бұрын
@@Wigglasworld Oh yea, the 6'6 will be great for 3ft and above. That's where I find it shines - its very thin and the 7ft Mid 6 will feel more like a typical mid length, where this will feel like a long shortboard - even though they have similar volumes. @TravisVargaАй бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I think they are different enough that not really comparable for overall verses, since they don’t sit in the same category. I’d want SP for mega groveley stuff and Revo Max for Stomach Hugh and above. If head high and above Revo Max for sure and if it’s steeper. SP can shred up to head high - if fatter high tide SP. They have some overlap but surf different. If your more of a beginner or intermediate too SP - Revo Max is way less volumed so you gotta go big in height with it if your lower in skill level - which is fine but twin fin also trickier/less stable than SP fin options.
