As a young kid, I enjoyed helping dad pile the wood in the cellar of the old farmhouse we lived in until the pile fell over on us one time! Then, as I got older, I wasn’t as happy piling it unless I was getting paid to do it to have $$ to play with. When I was in my 20’s, after moving from the country into a home with gas heat, I enjoyed helping my older friend with his firewood for something to do. When I was 29, I was in a hunting accident and ended up in a wheelchair paralyzed from the waist down and miss using a chainsaw. Now that I’m in my 46th year, I get to enjoy firewood and hunting all over again with you and Kenny! Although it’s too hard to get around in the woods now, I still jump (more like roll) at the chance to run a woodsplitter or chuck some wood into a trailer. Take care, Chris! John

I was already planning on leaving New York in the summer, when I read about the proposed law about reducing wood burning. It reaffirmed my decision to leave! It seems they are really concentrating on wood boilers. It’s so silly, my wood stove runs at over 80 percent efficiency. Better than some people’s furnaces.

Good morning Chris!!😀😀 I looked into the new law on burning wood in New York. They aren't stopping anyone from burning wood. They are just making new laws on what kind of stoves you can install now. You can't buy and install brand new outside boilers like mine anymore. You have to get the type like Tony has that burns off the unburned gases that boilers like mine create. Drivers me nuts when people like Greg just start making things up to wind people up. Instead of actually checking into it first. I bet with the cold stretch we had this week the phone is probably ringing off the hook. Take care my friend!!😀😀 Logger Al

My suggestion would be to keep the old trailer at first, see if it works out. If you find it unnecessary, you can still just sell it. Obviously would be nice to have both in the busiest season and get a good idea if it is worth it.

Shouldn't take much cold weather to ruin that magic shovel! I'd recommend to you a 'spud bar' - "No Ernestine, not at stud bar, a spud bar!!". . . "No Ernestine, not potatoes, it's an iron..." Another possible: an almost pallet size piece of plywood with a handhold, so you can walk over the pallets, move the plywood easily, and wait for warmer weather to move the pallets. "Wait" would be fightin' words for Kenny!! Ask 'da man Tony, tell us how he'd do it. "No Ernestine, not the famous singer!"

Ban on burning! I had to look into this. Apparently it's not true...so far. Here is what I found, "A DEC spokesperson, says that 40% decrease in wood consumption is driven by building and device efficiency and increases in electrification of primary heating across all fuel types over time. Additionally, the analysis remains consistent across scenarios as to the contribution of remaining high-efficiency, low-emissions wood burning (for example, wood use for primary and secondary heating or industrial use) as well as some recreational wood combustion," Viccaro said. "In layman's terms, the plan right now does not include any recommendations specifically about wood burning. Viccaro wants to make it clear, the state is not considering legislation that would ban heating your home with firewood. So if you read or heard that claim, it's false." That is according to News 10 in New York.

Works of art! Just a thought, seems like you have the room, why not make dedicated rows of each species with enough room to drive the truck and tractor down and keep a dedicated cutting and or splitting area specially if you keep the old trailer, just split into the trailer. Just thinking you wouldn't have to bust up anything in the winter just to rebuild it again in the spring. The only thing you'd have to arrange it so there's room to push snow straight down the lanes and keep the ends wide open so there's room for snow. Just a thought.

And most of the killings with gun are happening in supposeably gun free zones.what’s to stop a armed criminal from entering a school and shooting up the place (a unarmed guard no he or her are going to run for their lives) these stupid mayors of these democratic cities deserve what they get for issuing ordnances outlawing people the right to protect themselves! The mayor of Chicago has 91 policemen guarding her residence and a whole troupe of guards around her all the time.Shes afraid someone is going to her it’s no wonder the enemies she is constantly making like removing a certain group of peoples statues and refuseing to put them back where they belong!

Greatly rant on business experiences Chris. I hate when people tell that I need to buy something because it's a business experience and It's a tax write-off. Is 90% of these people are misinformed and don't understand how it really works you only save your tax rate great off your income tax. So if you spend a $100000 on new equipment you don't save a $100000 in taxes you only save your income tax rate so if you're at 25% income tax you only save $25000 on taxes and you still have to make that $100000 to pay for that equipment. By the way I would keep the old rusty trailer because it's already paid for and it really doesn't cost that much more to keep it And it's always nice to have a second trailer available or as a backup.

Morning Chris. I somewhat agree with it’s not a get rich business, but it also depends on location. In 25 mins from Minneapolis and St. Paul. Started out with a 10k machine and paid that off. Now just bought new Multitek 3-4 cords an hour. Only way to make money is by charging a good amount. Restaurants here pay $500-530 a cord. Pay off 300k in equipment pretty easy. Looking at 2 year pay back. Selling $120 a face cord no money in that. Some side money at best. If you have a kiln you can make very good money. Yes it’s payback but you have a real job as backup lol. For those who only make $50-100 face cord I would say not worth getting into business

Hey Chris good morning! Hey I'm curious how long your truck bed is because I want to get into selling a little bit of firewood so I'm trying to figure out if I stack the wood in the back of my truck if three rows are four rows would be a face cord and I have a six and a half foot bed on my truck.
@jayh84902 жыл бұрын
stack a face cord on the ground, then stack it into your truck. that's the easiest way to figure that out.
@InTheWoodyard2 жыл бұрын
Just do some math. 5' WIDE X 2' HIGH =10 THREE ROWS OF THOSE IS 30, THEN ALL YOU NEED IS 2 MORE SQUARE FEET FOR 32. ONE FACE CORD. SO 3 1/4 ROWS, I am not yelling I just left on the caps!

@@InTheWoodyard if you want to get super exact don't forget about the wheel wells!! Usually about 4' wide between them... I'm just being annoying, don't mind me

Don't know why watching someone throw wood about is so compulsive, but it is . Greetings from the UK.

No doubt. What's really pathetic is that NY State Social Services supply firewood to people that have the ability to burn it rather than fuel oil. It's cheaper and plentiful. I just wish these morons would give us a break for a while. ( forever)

When you buy logs off a truck, what's your cost for the wood per face cord?

A pile of neatly stacked wood that is stacked in three rows each 4' high 8' long of 16 inch pieces. So the pile is 4' high 4' wide and 8' long. Thanks for asking Sharon!
