Agree with the Coast Guard Officer who commented earlier. As a veteran US Navy, Duluth looks like the ideal place for me. It seems to have everything I enjoy. Too bad this 80 plus year old is drydocked and barely able walk and travel these days. Were I 50 or 60 years younger things would be a lot different.

The ports on the Great Lakes move goods like iron ore, grain, and coal that often make their way to places like Constanța, one of Romania’s largest and most important ports on the Black Sea. Constanța serves as a vital gateway for Europe, and it’s amazing to imagine how the ships I record might be tied, in some way, to the cargoes that eventually pass through there. I hope to visit Romania someday and experience its beauty firsthand. I’ve heard so many wonderful things about places like the Danube Delta and the historic regions of Transylvania and Maramureș. The blend of culture, history, and natural beauty is something that has always fascinated me. Having friends from Romania, I know how kind and welcoming the people are, and I imagine it would be an incredible trip. Watching the connections between Great Lakes ships and international trade reminds me of how small the world really is and how these ships are part of something much bigger. I want to thank you again for finding my channel and enjoying the videos. It means so much to know that viewers from all over the world are part of this growing community. LikeyYou I've asked myself how many of the "salties" went in one of our Black Sea ports and even docked in one of my city ports, bringing iron ore or cooking charcoal, taking out steel; as I have mentioned my city is a transit terminal for shipment coming from around the world to inland Europe, upward Danube or by railway to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. There is a British fellow who made the documentare "Wild Romania" and you might like to watch it If you haven't done it yet. All of the Romania's regions are beautiful and have geographic, historical or cultural landmarks. Dobrudja is like a small scale Transilvania and I love crossing it in summer on my way to the seaside; during winter tine, when the snow and the blizzard get unleashed is not advisable to travel on secondary roads and even on the highway you might get stuck in between towns. It is said that when God created Earth He grave to each country in alphabetical order land features and Romania, being on the end of the list got so many natural splendori from the green plains to snowy mountains, countless rivers, lakes, sea shore and sand dunes and the Danube Delta. While many turn their full attention to Transylvania, Maramureș and Moldova have their fair share of beauty and interesting treats. I am sure that your friends already grave you a list of places to visit so all I am saying is just be prepared to be amazed. In winter you can enjoy our winter holiday customs while duringlate spring You ca-n travel light escaping the summer furnace. My favorite boat is still the James R Barker. It has by far the best horn of any boat on the Great Lakes. They blow three very long and two short blows and the two stage horn is awesome. 😮

Hey Mike, and all the Global Boat Friend Nation, from a cold and breezy Bismarck. What a video this was as you have a night shoot, with a low ceiling , no wind to speak of, the beautiful lights of Duluth and Bentlyville showing off her colors as well. Wow, then to top it off you have “Big Hoss” outbound with a full load of Wyoming Coal coming through the canal as quiet as a Church Mouse…. And if that Big Beast was not enough, then you have Fireworks besides which add their own sound and colors besides. I mean this shoot had everything!!!! I was half expecting to see Santa and his sled and Reindeer flying over the lift bridge it was that good! I do not know what you plan to top this one, but I cannot wait. This was a classic Mike, and I ain’t lying brother!

@ I think the first ships I saw were as the lakes were freezing over and I watched the last ship make it into port . Can’t remember how long ago that was though.. I find it’s Very relaxing and Escape from the Madness of the UK - world I’m sure I’ll watch many more videos of these beauties . Hope you had an awesome Thanksgiving-sadly here in UK what we call Harvest Festival in our Churches..school children would take fresh produce to church .. And sing .. We plough the fields and scatter the good seeds on the land .. Sadly wiped out.

Beautiful video; it had so many neat elements to it: the mammoth ship gliding by with silent, graceful dignity; the mellow reflection of the lights on the dark waters; the cheeriness of Christmas lights twinkling across the way; the fun of actually briefly being on the bridge with you- and to end it all, a grand finale from a winter fireworks display! This was worth watching, every minute of it- and I can tell that you really enjoyed filming it. Thank you! Keep warm! Here in the Buffalo, NY area we are supposed to get socked with a bunch of snow in the next several days- especially south of the city. My shovel is ready- but am I?! 🫤🙂
