Hi from Australia. Just saw the post on A pop up . Doesn't appear to be a busy Airport however you would see quite a few Ryan Air as they land everywhere also plenty of Corporate Plane & smaller private Cessna Size Planes

Prestwick is a leftover from the early days of cross Atlantic flights. LHR to Prestwick to refuel and then on to Gander. Refuel and then on to New York etc. These days it is passed over and Scotland has airports at both Glasgow and Edinburgh plus regional at Aberdeen and Inverness, Orkney and Shetland for the oil and offshore wind industry.

90% of the traffic that uses the airport these days are US military. I grew up here and spent my childhood watching all the airlines coming here to practice there landings. Concorde was very interesting

Hi Jonathan. We had a 380 event here down at Gatwick when for the first time one of Quantas big Kangas visited and the returned week later only to be made to do a go around. Although Emirates are on daily schedules, surprising how much interest a rare visit makes. Really enjoy your coverage of Prestwick. All the best Mick. Long time subscriber.

Was on the Emirates 380 out of Glasgow a few months ago. This flew over at the Atlantic at 27000 feet with its landing gear extended . Where is it going for a repaint ?

Can’t help thinking they need to get the drawings out again and rework with more composites and 2 big new engines. Such a lovely quiet airplane to travel on. I have over 70 flights on them.

Hi, an A380 pilot here. Whilst I love the aircraft (just eats the miles when it comes to ultra longhaul flights), and it's probably the most comfortable longhaul aircraft around and it would be great to see a NEO option. Sadly the assembly line has now been retooled for A320 NEO family I believe and jigs required likely do not exist any more either. For what you're suggesting you'd likely need to redesign the entire wing, mounting points would need to be moved also and therefore the flap assemblies would have to be redesigned. On top of that the centre of gravity would likely change as a result (the A380 moves fuel throughout the flight to maintain an optimum centre of gravity for efficiency). At this point you're now at the point of redesigning the entire aircraft. There simply isn't the market for it, despite Emirates' protestations, airlines are not clamouring for the capacity, I know mine has been on the lookout for years for more aircraft, but simply the resources, the engineering, ground handling and the space to handle them is so great it's almost impossible. There would be a huge cost outlay for what would be likely a low return on investment. Technically possible, but a financial disaster for Airbus. As a case in point for the market for A380s there's a Singapore A380 at Changi airport I saw the other day that's looking like it's not long for this world, a very forlorn sight. Dirty, forgotten and almost everything has been robbed off of it for parts for other aircraft. No engines, radome, flaps, gear doors, sliderafts. It was a very quiet cockpit as we taxied past it...

Years ago i watched the concorde trials as it endlessly took off and landed at Prestwick. Its more Ayr than Glasgow imo. Looks just the same !

@@JonathanWinton123 Absolutely. I was on an Easyjet flight from Glasgow International to Bristol on Wednesday 1st May. We stopped short of the runway and I looked out of the window just in time to see the Emirates A380 coming into land, at about 1.30pm.
