I've had the same model mower for a while now. Super happy with it, I use the mulching function with excellent results.

Just to clarify, the Stihl RMA510V doesn't technically take two batteries. It is powered by a single battery and has a storage only spot for a second (saving you a walk to the shed when the first one runs out). You have to manually swap the spare battery into the powered slot when the original one runs out.

I think the rye looks good, Tim. So green! I have an agreement with my deer, they can nibble on whatever they want as long as they quit pooping on my patio. So far, so good. 🥰❤

The grass is looking great. Wish our grass would stay green in winter, but it just gets covered with the white stuff lol. Now for the name of your new mower, how about « Stella Stihl »? 😊 Can’t wait to watch your video on you getting the chickens. Their coop is looking nice and tidy. They’re going to love it in there. I bought the more domestic version of that Stihl mower some two years ago and aside from an early problem (seals had to be replaced) I have had no issues. The self propulsion of the mower is excellent for my physical issues and I can only recommend this mower to anyone who has issues actually pushing a mower. Love your new property Tim.

Not sure about people hair, but dog hair should do the trick to ward them off. Having Maggie and Kevin out there will provide some hair, but save their hair from brushing and add it to the perimeter at least. Rozanne geraniums are also good at deterring the deer from coming into a yard if they are used as a perimeter bush. I liked seeing the robot mower going as you were mowing with the Stihl. Your rye is a very pretty color, but you’ll have to accept that the deer will find it inviting through winter too🦌Cant wait for the chickens to come to roost!! 🐓

I got my first dog in my present house in 2013, and by the spring of 2014 it looks like my backyard was a war zone. Dead patches everywhere we replanted them all Since then my wife and I followed the dogs out with watering can and I drop a little stone where they pee and then I go back and retrace my steps I’ve never had to replant since.

Perennial Rye is a common seed for lawns here in the Pacific Northwest (Oregon). We normally cut and keep it at about 3". Deer will graze on lawns if there is little natural browse for them.

Hey Tim I remember watching a movie years ago, about a bloke trying to grow grass on a baseball field but the deer kept eating it and somebody told him to put human hair clippings around the place and it stopped the from eating the grass. I don't know if it works but you could try it wouldn't hurt Keep up the good work an videos

um, one quick question and one revisit. Did you get that tank leak fixed? And two. Alpaca make good guard animals. Often used to protect sheep from foxes. They could even prevent said rogue deer from chewing the grass too. Not that I'm waiting for you to announce you've bought a couple though🤣🤣

I’d love a couple of alpacas. Maybe at some point. Leak not fixed yet but it hasn’t rained much so hasn’t been an issue.

@@turfandtools I said that because I saw you at that centre with the young one. What does Carthic think about getting some? I reckon it might give the deer incursion a bit of a knockback. You can get deer fencing, but that's quite an area to do and no guarantees.

If you have magpies around the property, talk to them and become friends with them. You will find that they don't swoop you if they know that they can trust you.

Exactly. The last thing you want is to make enemies of magpies or crows. They are very smart, hold grudges, and pass along any bad feelings to the next generation. Right now they are trying to figure Tim out. Best to make friends.

Another really enjoyable vid. Would love a cylinder mower vid, cant seem to see one if you have done it already. Comparing newer more affordable cylinders like a masport 500, vs a new/used mow master or a restored scott bonnar etc etc. Keep up the good work mate

Water down the pee area's really good and they recuperate very fast!!

You will have to put a temporary electric fence around that grass to stop the deer now they know where it is.

When you cut your hair, save the clippings and sprinkle that around where you don’t want the deer. We did that on a baseball field after seeing it in a movie. Reluctant at first but it actually worked to keep the deer away.
