Started IT tech 1 2 months ago…my recommendation is notes, notes, and notes. I would also say do not be afraid to put yourself out there and solve issues on your own. This taking into account how much freedom your leadership gives you. The casino environment is very quick pace and touches a wide variety of troubleshooting areas…i have found success in jumping in and making mistakes to learn faster as the mistakes allow You to really process the resolutions.

Today marks my 1st month into my 1st IT job as a help desk analyst and I'd say that getting acquainted ASAP with your team and other IT teams (asset, Netops, etc...) helps a lot. Since I'm passing tickets and asking questions, it helps makes everyone's jobs smoother. Plus it helps you network in the long run

If you're new I would highly recommend educating yourself on windows software immediately. It's not negotiable at entry level if you don't know you will be trained up on it but you should be catching up on your own too. Company software is something else, you can learn that at work but windows software is something that needs to be embedded into your soul!

DO NOT be afraid to ask multiple questions! Your team would (should) rather help answer these than have any mishaps. But, in case of a mistake: Stay calm, take ownership, escalate, and take notes! Learn how they handle these situations, and what you are able to do within the company to fix it, and grow! Don't assume because you've done something one way on your own, that the company wants things done that way.

First day on the job might be doing some hardware stuff too like replacing a battery inside a laptop or a HDD, SSD in a Desktop PC. Patching Ethernet cables.

If you're trying to get the fundamentals, CompTIA A+ covers a lot of subjects. For that I would recommend a Professor Messer channel. For on job training, Kevtech and Jobskillshare.

I have no experience in it on paper. Somehow I got a sub contrating job to upgrade the pos blade server to a virtual server on the gen10 at about 25 CVS stores and they will train me the 1st time or two. This will require me going to the stores after hours to do the work and I already have a full-time day job so this would require a large commitment on my part. Is this type of it experience valuable enough to warrant the commitment? Is this considered entry level it work?

Hi I have a question, what websites can I use to learn the Fundamentals of IT like the networking and trouble shooting, etc? I wanna learn the stuff before I start my Associates in Cyber security

Professor Messer's youtube channel. Look for the Comptia A+ playlist. Yes, these are intended to be used for that specific test, however it is a nice structured 70+ video series that will give you some IT fundamentals

I’m 22 and just received my diploma for an associates in Information technology: hardware and desktop support 2 weeks ago and I’m wondering if I should get my A+ first before applying for my first entry job or is my degree fine to get my foot in the door cause I already know powershell, AD, registry, Linux, CLI, etc etc. or should I go straight into applying for higher positions and get my CCNA while working?

Hey I don’t know if you can get to me or anyway I can contact you. Right now I have no experience in IT. I just got my CCNA cert 3 weeks ago and now I can’t even get an interview to an entry level job. I have years of customer service as well and it’s weird but the only jobs calling me back are tier 2 + jobs and saying I would’ve been hired but I lack experience. I have also been doing contract work to gain experience with troubleshooting and other things as well but no matter how many jobs I apply to no answer from entry level. I’m currently enrolled in CS50, learning Python, and studying for Sec+ in the meantime while waiting to break into tech. -Sorry for the long message-
