@@zombkiin it didn’t go good 😔 the supervisor was horrible! She moved a favorite coworker to an easier workload department as she put it. The rest of us was tormented by her constant emails and we got 15 minute breaks cause she’ll find us at lunch and demand we go back and finish any work we didn’t get to. I left and found a better job through a friend of mine feel so much better mentally! Sorry for the long reply 😭 how’s it going for you?

1. Know how to dress - do not overdress 2. Ask Questions before you show up on your first day 3. Be Polite and get out and introduce yourself to your co-worker (do it enthusiastically) 4. Ask for help (but think through it before and try to solve on your own) 5. Learn what everyone else does (i.e. Job role, Project they are working on, etc) 6. Don't stress - give yourself time to learn things 7. Ask more questions in meeting (be curious) 8. Don't afraid to ask for a feedback 9. Perform best of your ability (no slacking, get things done ahead of schedule) 10. Don't suck up and don't be overly nice (maintain balance) 11. Show up 10-15 minutes early to scheduled start and don't leave on time. (can be interpreted as you are a time watcher) 12. Don't be a Diva (don't be a demanding person rather give time and space to do there job) 13. Don't be a person who knows it all. Rather be open minded and learn why/how the process is. 14. Don't misuse company resources (internet for social media, watching videos, using company phones for personal calls, etc)

I used to work somewhere that was extremely informal, people came in wearing jeans and caps most of the time, so I went with it. It was an office setting and I was in management so I figured why not, well one of the things that I was told after over a year, close to two years with them was that I needed to "look the part" --- NEVER AGAIN.

I would strongly recommend against asking, “why?” all the time like he recommended. It comes across as argumentative and in general is annoying to trainers.

@@bellamichelle6248 Maybe because some women see other women as competition in the workplace, where they want to stand out above their colleagues. This can be particularly true in male dominated workplaces, where they might feel the need to work harder to have a chance of being noticed. But I guess some people are also just mean and petty :)

Hi Don, As someone with little interview experience and low confidence, I have been following your advice every step of the way during my job interviews. After a 5th and final interview, they said they'd let me know by end of the week if I got the job. Well, they got back to me that evening! As a recent Covid graduate, I struggled for 6 months to find a job and lost my opportunity to get an internship. While I landed a job at a company I'm extremely passionate about, it's not a role for a junior! I hope I can survive the first 3 months. Thanks for you help as I start my career.

I've always been a self taught musician. At 36 years old I decided to make a change in life and try to join the working force. Yeah that's right this is my first REAL job. Prior to this I've always be an independent contractor in music or construction related stuff. I have a lot of skill and abilities to offer but not much real job experience. I somehow landed a nice opportunity at a local manufacturing plant that's been around for a LONG time.. Lots of people from my area have always proclaimed how good of a company it is. I was Shocked I was able to get the job with no education backing or job history.. It literally took a global pandemic for a guy like me to be able to get a job. Now I am SO happy to be able to find content like this online free to the public. What a blessing! I'm going to strive to be the best me I can be and hopefully that me is good enough for the real world. Thanks for what you do!

5:35 This is a really big issue with me. I’m naturally bubbly, energetic and friendly and I’m sincere about it; however, many people do not like this, as they see it as fake or manipulative. I’ll be sure and take your advice here and try and contain myself. 😅

Part of my anxiety is that this isn’t my “dream” job. The main reason for my anxiety is that this job isn’t something I give a f_{k about, but am merely taking to survive. I’m presented with the existential dilemma of caring, but not caring. If I were starting my “dream job,” I could handle it myself because I’m drivin by a passion. But most of us don’t have that luxury. Most of us are drivin just to survive and face the existential degradation to coexist with just “a” job.

Maybe you can reframe this perspective about your job to be more positive. Think of the things your job enables you to do, save money, pay for leisure activities, socialise, learn new skills etc. Plus, you can always do things in the background outside of your job, to upskill, research, and work towards a job you are more interested in, whilst holding down a job and earning a living. Life can seem pointless if you overthink it, and look for deeper meaning/purpose in everything. Be mindful, live in the present moment and appreciate being alive, healthy and keep with it!

All of these are really easy except for the not being kind part. If someone interprets my genuine kindness for sycophancy that just makes me sad for them. It’s sad to know people will dislike you for being sweet :(
