Thanks Hugo for that really detailed tour. This cat looks pretty amazing although the interior is a a bit stark and utility. I guess there’s a lot an owner could do to make it look a little softer and more homely and as such would make a superb ‘live aboard’ boat 😁

I hate the way the fly bridge hard top looks but it gets some impressive range. 550 RPM, 3.1 Knots, 3019 NM 1500 RPM, 7.7 Knots, 967.7 NM 3000 RPM, 16.8 Knots, 329 NM.

Absolutely beautiful summer / warm weather boat. I presume it has air conditioning. How about it's heating? To avoid condensation and keep warmth inside the indoor living spaces of the boat.

Yes it does have aircon, Hugo mentioned it at one point. I'm not sure about heating but most of these boats end up in the Med and the Caribbean so heating isn't a necessity.

I see problems with users catching their shoulders and backs getting into the right hand side of the master cabins bed and the left hand side of the port aft cabin bed. The forward cabin would be the best choice. Fit and finish slightly too IKEA for a moving vessel. But all in all a fine boat that will surely succeed.

The forward stateroom, with the walk around bed, is nicer than the owners cabin..I'd prefer to see a full beam owners cabin at the bow, with the 2 smaller aft staterooms..

The way cats are growing in popularity (and size) calling a 46 footer a "large" cat may be understating it a bit. Especially for one that is large enough to be a live-aboard boat. I'd almost be calling it a mid-sized catamaran myself!

Personally, I prefer the idea of my $$ going towards liveaboard practicality, functionality and performance, before cosmetics. If money is no object, by all means, I'm sure you can option more expensive finishes. But for something this expensive I would rather have every dollar go towards where it matters - seakeeping ability, fuel economy, practical living space. For example, I would give up the dovetail drawers in favour of more solar panels any day.

This is just an entertaining platform for charter purposes. Not really something anyone who owns a boat would want. Can only imagine what it’s like into a head sea with that thick bridge deck and all the waves slamming into it. Note the sharp corners everywhere too.

@@steveantson9608 They are notorious for poor after sales support, which is critical if you don’t want to lose weeks every time there is an issue with an engine. At least they are improving a bit on reliability. Funny enough, after warranty lapses, everything becomes easier as the user now pays in full… At least this was the case 3-4 years ago, but for me it was enough to say never, ever again.

PS the audio mix on this was terrible. Hugo was "quiet shouting" but the music was ambient played 3 times too loudly. It's so so bad it gets a very, very rare thumb's-down. But only for a mix. Why would you do this? Spend hours and hours filming, editing, and then crap all over your own work by mixing in music that is - objectively, measurably - far too loud for the rest of the audio track. It's like spending an entire day roasting a piglet and when you serve it you sprinkle bits of dog poop on top. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? Why would you spend so much time and effort (and money) just to ruin it for absolutely no reason at all? Do you guys need a sound mixer? I'll find you a sound mixer.

A bit of both😉 But there is a rationale to it: 1) As this will be the new mainstay of the Moorings global charter fleet there are almost certainly more of these on order than any other comparable powercat. 2) The boat this replaces, the 43 PC was hugely popular. This model is a substantial improvement on it so I’d be very surprised if this isn’t an even bigger seller. 3) Because hundreds of people charter them through the Moorings each year, more people experience and enjoy them than other power cats. 4) There wasn’t room for “First full test of what will almost certainly be the world’s favourite powercat.”

I wonder if you are right though and whether the high age is over for this type of boat: recent covid effecting the business model, the much higher cost of fuel added to the cost of hire, and finally that this design isn't focussed on efficiency and more on internal volume esp. in the hulls without going electric or hybrid. Instead of being the best seller ever, it may be like the dinosaur born, looking up at the bright meteor already screaming in the atmosphere.
