Yeah, but Intel still earning way more profit than AMD. The builder's market is small, the OEM market is huge and Intel by far still dominates the OEM market. Who cares that the Z490 sucks? Who even cares about the brands inside an OEM machine? OEM buyers don't. The salespeople just have to bull crap their way, "it has a Z490, the top end motherboard for this, blah blah blah" and boom, a sucky ASRock motherboard versus a premium ASUS motherboard inside it won't make a difference. On the opposite, if it was the other around, good Intel motherboard, sucky AMD motherboard, that would hurt profits. As it stands, ASRock don't really need to care that their Z490s suck, as long as OEM buys them, they're fine.

@CAZIBOY the Only downside is the chipset's limited bandwidth. If you were doing some mass read or write on a bunch of SATA SSDs at the same time, the 665p would have some reduced performance, but the 970 evo and GPU would remain at full bandwidth. But that's never really gonna happen in a gaming PC and if you're transferring from your main drive to a secondary drive it's all good.

Until there are mass availability of cheap 2.5G switches and routers with 2.5G ports instead of 1 gigabit then motherboards coming with that is pointless imo. Faster than gigabit ports has been a thing on motherboards for a while now but there is still no switch vendors coming out with really cheap ones almost as cheap as their existing gigabit switches because 2.5G at this point isn't that much more expensive. They can reduce the price if they want. They are just still sitting on the fence because I bet the switch vendors still think faster than gigabit for the plebians of us is pointless meanwhile motherboard vendors can use it as some kind of selling point gimmick. And the cheapest switches and routers still target small businesses and not consumer level pricing. So you buy a gaming motherboard with 2.5G LAN and then you have to hit up business class vendors to complete your networking? That just doesn't make sense to me.

Let's be real, these motherboard companies are probably selling and expected to sell much more AMD motherboards than intel options since it's the DIY market. On one hand you have 10th gen Intel with expensive motherboards. On the otherhand, you have upcoming renoir APU, 3rd Gen Ryzen, and future Ryzen CPUs that will make these boards sell like hotcakes. Honestly I firmly believe that this will be the last motherboard generation for AM4. Makes no sense for 600 series boards to exist when the next generation will surely move on to DDR5.

From an mATX perspective, the B550M Steel Legend seems like a good option. And it probably would've been a good option, if it didn't share the same MSRP as the MSI B550M Mortar. The only thing the Steel Legend offers over the Mortar is two extra USB's in the rear I/O. The Mortar offers better VRM's, larger heatsinks, front USB-C (and for $10 you get Wi-Fi). You may not need these features, but since they're priced the same: "Why the hell not?" Feels like a missed opportunity from AsRock. Gigabyte's mATX lineup is a joke, and AsRock could've capitalized on that by pricing the Steel Legend equal to the B550M Elite.

Hey guys one question, what does the Vcc/SA and Vcc/IO provide "power" to? Because i've heard a bunch of confliction information, saying the System agent powers the IMC, and the IO power the IMC, but i couldn't reach to a conclusion. I also know that Vcc/IO apparently divides into 2 variants like Vcc/IO-D and another one i cant remember. But exactly what does the system agent powers? And what about the Vcc/IOs?

I am not sure of pricing from Asrock so cannot comment about that. In India Asus has officially announced their pricing for B550 line up and their entire B550 line up is more expensive than their equivalent X570 motherboards. If Asrock also follows the same trend as Asus them these B550 boards are big Meh. For eg.: B550 Strix E is INR 33700, while X570 Strix E is 31500. B550 TUF gaming is INR 19000 while X570 TUF gaming is around 17800.

31:58 "...you wouldn't be buying B450 boards for 3000 series CPUs, unless you were extremely desperate... um... in which case, you know, like... uh... well... still don't do that in my opinion. Just buy a cheap B550 in that case instead." Thank you for saying it. I've been saying this long before I watched this video, but no one seems to listen. Almost shocking how many people in forums, such as PCPartPicker STILL pair 3600 with a B450 Tomahawk MAX. It's like they watched the B450 Tomahawk paired with Ryzen 3950X a year ago, been told B450 is good enough for the 3950X, X570 is unnecessary (which I don't agree with to a large extent) and just used that basis for a year later when the B550s are out. Honestly, I think one of the things large tech reviewer channels need to do today is to clarify this "B450 for Ryzen 3000" comment they made a year ago. Yes, a year ago, for a 3600, a B450 was a good choice, but today, no, a B550 is superior in almost every way for like $20 more than their B450 counterpart. It's obvious, without being explicitly informed, i.e. without a video titled CHOOSE B550 OVER B450, people are still being led by the comment made a year ago.

Buildzoid so right now there have been some photos of the VRM on the microATX Steel Legend. It does have 8+2 50A SiC654s that are on the X570 PG-X, but the rest of the VRM I'm not so sure about the quality. PWM is a 4+2 uP9505S, and the Vcore doublers are uP1911Rs. These doublers seem to have been around a while on the expensive Poseidon 1080 Ti, but I can't find anything else about them. Are they "dumb" doublers? The other ASRock 500-series boards with 50A Vishays end up with the new Renesas controller and ISL6617 doublers, so I was somewhat disappointed to see the B550M Steel Legend using these uPI parts. I've got this board on the way and just wanted to make sure that this analog PWM and obscure doublers aren't cause for concern for 12- and 16-core usage.

I've read somewhere that AsRock decided to go all-in on AMD, that's why their AM4 boards have been that good since B450, and why their Intel lineups have been an afterthought. Apparently they made much more money in the last couple quarters than usual this way.

Their x470 an b450 boards were all garbage except the taichi, what are you on about? The only one that was a worthwhile consideration was the b450 pro 4, not cause it was good, but it was a mediocre board amongst a sea of complete garbage in the super budget price range

If I may put my tinfoil hat on for a second... 8:45 of course Intel is more than happy to see their broken Foxville 2,5G NIC chips on an AMD board, guess who the consumers will blame when their first AMD PC in 10 years suffers from random massive lag spikes in multiplayer games, due to the broken NIC dropping packets? Yeah people will go "AMD lags hard and I die in fortnit, AMD cheap shit", cos they dont even know what packet loss is. Nice trojan horse NIC Intel... I would not be surprised if Intel told Asrock "hey, if you buy our Wifi 6 card, we will throw in our 2,5G NIC chips for free", I mean Intel must have tens or hundreds of thousands of broken NIC chips that they need to somehow get rid of, and dumping them on the market "for free" probably looks better in the books than just writing the entire inventory off. Plus they get to drive wifi chipset sales with the bundling. And if AMD platforms get sabotaged, thats an added bonus...

I'm guessing ASRock is fully aware of the issues, and has either made sure they have received fixed chips, or will last-minute switch to Realtek chips, even if it means delaying shipping that board model. Of course I could be wrong... I guess we'll see here in a couple weeks.

lots of confusion. can't find it right now but there was some issue with x amount of mosfets sharing the same heatsink? i've seen quite a few vids recently saying that you can get by without a heatsink anyway. and then bz was complaining about heatsink fans also being redundant. plus, the more 'phases' as in sets of mosfets per phase, let more dissipated the workload, innit? so what's the problem with the size of this heatsink and how many physical phase sets have to share it? if you're cynical to the point that you automatically complain about everything it only causes confusion. on a similar note, the worst thing to complain about is over-engineering, which is something that consumers need more of. don't worry about the manufacturer's cost or that it may be redundant. the fact is, even if whatever it is will never be used, it will probably add extra reliability in some way.

Hi, I own both itx boards. When Bullzoid was talking about the budget one, the B550M, if I've understood correctly, he thinks that maybe would be better adding little heatsinks like this: images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61ZMi3-xcPL._AC_SL1500_.jpg What I'm confused about, it's if the way to go is putting them above the heatsing already installed or to take away the original heatsink and put this sort of little ones directly, I don't know either if the ones of the image I've put here are fine. I have a bunch of them that I've used with a VGA. Thanks in advance from anyone that got it better than me. PD: I might even search for an old mobo I have somewhere and see if its heatsink can be adapt to replace the original one on the B550m.
