I honestly want to buy an MSI board just for the fact that they fully disclosed what VRMs they used. Seeing the entire flow-diagram of the Carbon's power delivery on their website really put a smile on my face and I really wanna see other brands follow suit. Even with the lower-end boards, they still clearly state what VRMs they chose, if they're just Dr.MOS or SPS-es, actual current handling capabilities and whether they're doubled or not, so damn specific. MSI has been doing so many things right with AMD following from B450 and they're definitely gonna be my go-to when I plan to upgrade in the future

Depends on the price. All of them seem to be decent. For me it's going to be the Gigabyte, just because it's the cheapest (by 30€) in Germany and it has proper bifurication support (if the manual is correct). I would avoid the Asus and Asrock Phantom board for now, since they use the Intel 2.5G Lan chip and that thing has an unfixable hardware bug that reduces bandwith to around 10Mb/s. While Intel says that the new revision is fixed. You don't know if you get the fixed version with the first few batches of the boards. The MSI one seems fine, but it has a fan, so it depends if you want that. I generally dislike boards with fans. The cheap Asrock board seems nice for "low" budget builds.

there is a engineer at MSI called TOPPC who speak Chinese, he have made a video explain that the memory speed listed on their site was less than what it is, as far as his own claim goes it was because those 5000+ xmp kit was not published by Micron so they can't publish it?? something like that.... he did basically say those 6 layer PCB board can do 5000+ but at the same time they don't bother update their website which worries me. I'm really thrown for a loop with your evaluations of the ITX boards. From what I can tell, the main pro that the x570 ones have is that both m.2 slots are pcie 4.0, where only one of the two is 4.0 on the b550 boards. Of course, ASRock's x570 itx board has an odd little niche of being the only board with a thunderbolt port, so that one can be justified. And ASUS actually nerfed the VRM - I do agree that that the Asus b550 makes very little sense to buy. But if you compare Gigabyte's x570 itx VS their b550 itx, isn't it just a straight upgrade outside of that one pcie 3.0 m.2 slot? Same VRM configuration with slightly better components (on paper), no chipset fan to worry about, better ethernet, same rear IO, and it's $40 cheaper! MSI doesn't have an x570 itx board to compare their b550 to, but this one is still very good. VRM looks like it is equal-of-better than all x570 itx boards. MSI has confirmed that the m.2 fan can be turned off completely in BIOS, so that's not a huge deal, even it is a bit nonsensical. The rear IO is just like the other itx options, though it does have a SPDIF port and a PS/2 port (lol? nice to have the option I guess). 2.5gb ethernet as well. And again, this is cheaper than any of the x570 itx options. Lots of reasons to go for b550 over x570 if you are after an itx board.
@wowwow-xp9sk4 жыл бұрын
Bruh, i just gotta say, now that i know i can turn off the fan, you have sold this board to me, i was literally up for an entire 24 hours trying to find the perfect itx mother board, msi's itx b550 has that new connector and thats good, becuase now i can use the usb type c port on my case that i plan buying, and the vrms might be good enough for a 3700x, i,ll have to go to b550 itx part of this video rn to see if it can.

Good to see nice mATX boards with x16 slot in the correct location. 'Skipping' the first slot on mATX like Asus and Gigabyte is just stupid and limits access to pcie due to gpu location. So when does B550 A-Pro rolls out? It has better audio chip after all.

25:13 MSI puts heatsinks on the "SOC" vrm for Intel Mortars, I know cuz I have that B250M Mortar and I'm pretty sure the B360 has one too. Pretty sure MSI just cheaped out with the B350 and B450 Mortars 38:20 Jokes on you Buildzoid, MSI has a Grenade lineup! XD

You often mention the boards are overbuilt even for the 3950x... but what about Zen 3 chips? Could they be building the VRMs for that?
@shadowreign53233 жыл бұрын
Zen 3 is more efficient than Zen 2 so if it can handle the 3950X it will handle the 5950X

I'm at least 80% certain MSI has named a motherboard grenade, though I don't remember which socket or chipset it was.

Hi Buildzoid, when considering b550 itx boards, do you think the difference between Intel and Realtek 2.5GiB nics are worth the $20 increase between the Gigabyte board and the Asrock board? Thanks.
