Regarding the master: I believe AMD 3000 series CPUs give 24 PCIe 4.0 lanes with x16 to the GPU and x4 to the chipset (which is actually PCIe 3.0?). The remaining 4 lanes go to to a single nvme m.2 slot. My guess is if you use any of the other 2 m.2 slots it downgrades the GPU to x8 and splits the remaining x8 between the two m.2 slots for a 2 by x4 config. So I think you get 1 m.2 for free without a bandwidth penalty, but if you use slots 2 and 3 you lose GPU bandwidth.
@Carrinthe4 жыл бұрын
What I don't understand. If you're paying $280,- for a B550 master why don't you het a good x570 board around the same price like a MSI Unify and never have to bother with such compromises.
@ForeverDoubting4 жыл бұрын
Ah shit. I Want multiple M.2s it's so much cleaner then 2.5 inch SSDs, ah but I guess I can use one of those PCI expansion cards on which you can mount an M.2 and it'll use that X4 dedicated to chipset right? So i can have two SSDs without fucking my GPU?
@Cmr23334 жыл бұрын
ForeverDoubting theoretically if current gen GPUs supported pcie 4.0 then I wouldn’t be worried about the x8 downgrade since x8 pcie 4.0 is the same bandwidth as x16 pcie 3.0, and from what I understand, even the highest end GPUs right now don’t fully use up the bandwidth of x16 pcie 3.0. If you’re using a lower end GPU you may not use up the entire x8 bandwidth anyway? If you’re adventurous, I’d first try some games or benchmarks without the extra m.2 SSDs to get a baseline, then plug in the SSDs and try the same games/benchmarks to see if there’s any major performance losses. If you find you’re happy with the built in m.2 then no need to buy the extra card. If the performance you get by using the built in m.2 is unacceptable then get the add on card for pcie. I mean, there’s no better way to find out than to try it out yourself?

Just want to make a correction at 30:16 when you said that there isn't any advantage of going X570 for ITX with regards to PCI-E. This is false as X570 does give you PCI-E 4.0 on both M.2 slots as opposed to only one of them on the B550. This is due to the B550 chipset itself not having any PCI-E 4.0 uplink lanes but rather just relies on the CPU's 20 PCI-E 4 lanes for the x16 and one x4 M.2 slots. The X570 does have an x4 PCI-E 4.0 uplink which enables x4 PCI-E 4.0 on the second M.2 as well. This is important as X570 is the only ITX option if you want more than a single Gen4 NVMe drive.

At this point in time, the best Micro ATX options for a Ryzen 3950X build are looking to be ASRock's B550M Steel Legend (0I54.99$ USD) and Gigabyte's B550M Aorus Pro (0II9.99$); MSI's MAG Series B550M Mortar (0I59.99$) and Asus' TUF Gaming B550M Plus (also 0I59.99$) are a bit harder for me to justify due to a lack of VRM/MOSFET Cooling in certain areas and also for having an odd layout for PCI Express cards on the TUF Gaming (the top Graphics Card slot is one row lower than it must be), thus the Aorus Pro is looking to be the best option for Cost Factor while the Steel Legend is probably the best for Durability and Storage. The Steel Legend gives up two USB: Type A ports, when compared to the Aorus Pro's nine, but makes up for this by having six SATA III ports for storage as opposed to four on the Aorus Pro; considering that one would be saving about 035$ on an Aorus Pro if they could find it at MSRP (or at all, for that matter; it's still not officially available on Newegg nor Amazon in the states), I would recommend Gigabyte's option if only because of the lower price and if somebody will actually make use of all the USB: Type A ports on the board and their case (Local Ten Player Saturn Bomberman on emulator, anybody?), plus it'll very likely be fine running a 3950X at Stock and in Eco Mode, simply make sure that you have a spacious case and good cooling if you go for an OC though.

the M Elite and M DS3H have very long heatsinks which don't cover anything if there are no extra mosfets. It would be a really weird choke layout though. That said, I don't plan to overclock it too much, just to get some more stable performance, so while a switch for it would be more sane, I'm more or less okay with having a 2nd BIOS just in case something goes wrong, even if there is no switch for it (still have to trick 3 or so post fails to fix the initial borked BIOS tho!) Yes it's 12+2 ( reality 6+2 ) and uses a doubler. The flat curve heatsink is connected to the finned smaller heatsink via copper heatpipe

does extra low side mosfet at rear of the PCB without heatsink helps VRM thermal? I've always just assumed that penalty of being un-heatsinked outweighs benefit of lower resistance... TPU review of B550 Aorus pro clearly shows one RAA229004 and six ISL6617A. my hypothesis would be 1. they are using "true phase" bit creatively, trying to emphasize that thier VRM has actually out-of-phase 12 phase unlike Asus's "teamed" or MSI's "Duet" thing or 2.they are not using ISL6617A as doubler, but that's something, so they are claiming it's 'true' 12 phase.

Not a fan.. But same mobo is used in the b550 rig in next video?

Why do they always waste space on the IO shield with open space or PS2 ports???

All the m.2 drives of the aorus master can actually be very helpful to people like photographers that can be processing thousands of 30-100mb files or hundreds of gigs of video or audio captures per job. All the nvme would be very useful for in photo editing and light room usage just form person experience. The problem in my opinion is that it shouldn't be marketed as a gaming motherboard but more as a productivity mothoerboard. As such, if they dropped all the gamery features like rgb and awkward bios flashback and all that jazz, could have sold a very solid work station board for a lower price that could be perfect for amatuer video makers or photographers. All the usb slots is also a huge plus for productivity workloads where you could be hooking up a large amount of devices. Even with it's flaws, it could be the basis for a bang-for-buck editing machine.

In the Elite and Tuf manual they say the second x16 pcie slot only works in X1 while there is a GPU on the first one. Is it true or did I understand wrong?

Most of what I've read about Ryzen memory overclocking says to keep the infinity fabric the mem clock at the same frequency (1:1) with 1800 MHz IF and 3600 MT/s DDR being a sweet spot (maybe slightly higher depending on silicon). A lot of the improvements come from optimizing timings which is why the Ryzen memory calculator exists. Is it really worth it to shell out more money for something that can support 5000+ MT/s when you can look for the same VRM in a board that may only support 4400? I am looking to use a single CCD processor like the 3600.

BuildZoid in that B550 master review that are coming up I hope you slam Gigabyte for not including a front port USB Type C header. There is no excuse for not including that in a $280 board considering that most people buying a board in that price range most likely will also pair it with a more expensive case that have such a front port. Gigabyte is the only one that are not including that header on any of the B550 boards including the master which is ridiculous and they deserve some flask for it...😡

I was bombarded with hate from some idiots in Reddit for defending this choice by Gigabyte. It's because it all went to the Rear IO section of the board, though this only applies to those Gigabyte boards with 8+ USB ports. Either you get your USB Type C header but have an absolute shit Rear IO section like the B550 Tomahawk is, or get a really good Rear IO section but not have a Type C header. It all really depends if you really need to use the Type C header. I have one in one of my cases but I'm fine with just hiding the cable. Just like Buildzoid, I barely even use any Type C devices. As for the Gigabyte motherboards that have few USB ports but still don't have a type C header, that really deserves some shit.

My board having no BIOS switch (X570 Aorus Pro Wifi) is the only reason why I'm not aggressive with my memory overclocks.

16:24 "you can't get [Model M keyboards] in anything other than PS/2 since that's what they were made for" Oddly enough I am typing this on a model M keyboard that came from the factory with USB. It is true that the IBM PS/2 computer came with a model M keyboard though they predated that. However, as a keyboard enthusiast, I will say that having a PS/2 port on your machine is very handy. It's so much better than finding your stash of USB to PS2 adapters.

@OBCBTTB4 жыл бұрын
Tanishq bhaiji The Auros Master is Gen4 to the three M2 slots as they connect directly to the CPU, so long as you use a Ryzen 3 3000 Series CPU. The first PCIe slot is also Gen 4. The achilles heel comes when you fill the M2 and M3 slot as then the first PCIe slot defaults to 8x lanes which is shared. now with M2 and M3. Guru3d just did a review on the Auros 550 Master, check it out.

on the M.2 comments, I really don't understand why it's integrated on the motherboard since you can literally just put a PCIe slot on its place and use a card to install M.2 drives on that slot itself.

I was having trouble trying to understand the PCIE and M.2 on the Aorus Master and Aorus Pro. I plan to have a GPU and one M.2 PCIE Gen4 to start. My concern is when/if I decide to install a second M.2, this time PCIE Gen 3, into these two board. Any insight on what you would recommend? I am worried about adding a second M.2 to the Master and all of a sudden my PCIE lane for the GPU drops to from X16 to X8. I'm not too concerned with dual BIOS, I've never overclocked RAM before.
