Watched this video cause step-son just bought a 2018 Sierra 1500 over the weekend and see you are pretty close to me. He bought the truck in Butler. I am in Lawrence county but used to live in North Sewickley and keep my boat in Bridgewater. I am very familiar with that part of 376 you were on. Good luck with your channel!

Too much tongue weight. That's why the major squat! Lol tandom axle trailer most weight should be above the axles with just enough tongue weight so trailer doesn't sway.

Funny, but slightly scary story about the UHaul auto transport trailers. My first ever diesel truck was a Cummin, DRW, I soon learned that my truck was rather impractical unless I'm towing 15k pounds or more. Anything less I could do just as well with a Single Rear Wheel. So I have an uncle in Minnesota and he spots a Chevy, 6.5 Detroit Diesel, with a Regular Cab, making it much more manuverable than my other truck that needs about an acre and a half to pull a U-Turn. So the Chevy was an old piece of junk, but it ran, and it sold for a low price, I ended up driving almost 1,000 miles to go get it (almost 2,000 miles round trip). So I rent a U-Haul, head north, pick up the truck and the darn thing has a snow plow on the front of it, and it won't fit on the U-Haul with the plow. So I unbolt the plow, load it on the back of the Chevy and went back to Texas. Problem was, with the plow on the towed vehicle, the weight of the truck was no longer mostly to the front, it was now mostly towards the back ( meaning I had negative tongue weight ). So I'm going down interstate and I feel a slight shimmy in the seat of my pants, which I initially thought was a bad tire imbalance, until I looked in one of my side mirrors and saw my trailer playing peek-a-boo with me due to trailer sway. Nice thing about electronically controlled brakes is that if you have trailer sway you can hit the brakes on the trailer to stop the sway, pull over and redistribute the load. I ended up unloading the plow somewhere because I couldn't drive with it, it fixed my sway.

John Davis oh jeez!!! Yeah these uhaul trailers are easy to use I guess but definitely not “one fits all”... seems like there’s either too much tongue weight or not enough 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️

Squat didn't look too bad to me. Considering adding a 1/2 ton to pull about a 6k lb landscape trailer and about 1k payload. So tired of paying for stupid diesel for smaller jobs and 13+ mpg sounds pretty good

Hey man good video I have the same truck just crew cad which I use for towing my 5000lb m105a2 camper and I was having some squatting in the back and once I installed the Monroe Load Adjust Shock Absorber it all went away I’m super happy with the ride quality. Also, I’m getting about 13.5 mpg with the trailer on the highway.

13 MPG for driving in Pittsburgh with traffic while towing 6000 lb is pretty impressive. Since this is the first time you are towing heavy with this truck, did you check if the computer matched what the pump says ?
@JohnWargo936 жыл бұрын
Adithya Ramachandran unfortunately I did not... was actually in a big rush this day, lol. Plan on buying an actual car trailer soon, I’ll be able to do some pump math when hauling heavy to see what the fuel mileage is then.

Can't find any videos with a similar truck I have a 2015 GMC double cab but with just the 4.3 ecotec tow package just want to know a comfortable weight that I could tow not the max?
@JohnWargo935 жыл бұрын
Steven Strawn hey man from my research you’d be good with about 5,600lbs if you’re 2wd and 7,200lbs if you’re 4x4... either way if you load the trailer right with not too much tongue weight you should be able to tow max weight pretty comfortably without crazy effort. GM pads these numbers to allow ppl to tow “max” pretty comfortably.

Uhaul trailer breaks are awe full, consider those breaks non existent. Might work in a hard stop but most factory breaks would be toast by the time those offer and assistance.

9200 Lbs.? Newer GM halftons can tow a lot more than that. My 2015 Silverado with a crewcab and a 6.5ft box has a towing capacity of 11,000 lbs, thats without trailer brake controls, which would increase the capacity to 12000Lbs.
@pat14lang3 жыл бұрын
Different gear ratio, drivelines, as well as tow package varies between trucks, models, and sub-models. Which is why it’s always a good idea to check the VIN and RPO codes (found in the glove box) to be 100% sure what a trucks towing capacity/pay load is rated for.

Just pointing out the facts man. No disrespect man, but the way you were explaining things made you sound like an amateur...... you dont need to put on trailer mode unless your in hilly roads. Read the manual..... and yes, i was but i pull 30 ft goosnecks with my 3500.
@JohnWargo936 жыл бұрын
Aaron I’ve pulled goosenecks myself with 2500s and such, and pull a 24’ enclosed with this gasser right here fairly regularly. This video itself, with the Jeep and rental trailer, was the first time pulling something relatively heavy with such a small truck.. I’m used to bigger diesels and such, trying to not kill this thing right off the bat. It’s all good either way, thanks for the support and feedback.
@FightingFishTv6 жыл бұрын
you obviously have not read the manual "Vehicles with an automatic transmission have a Tow/Haul Mode. The Tow/Haul Mode adjusts the transmission shift pattern to reduce shift cycling. This provides increased performance, vehicle control, and enhanced transmission and engine cooling when driving down steep hills or mountain grades, when towing, or when hauling heavy loads." Maybe you should learn to read the FULL instructions and operating procedures for tow haul mode before trying to bash someone on it.
