Burro Ater It is not always avoidable. Trust me, I know this from experience and I have seen it happen in Inuyasha. Some writers have an appeal to a certain set of personalities. For me I like writing hot headed characters or characters that have weird quirks that I can relate to.

It didn't work for this show. Invader Zim had a much more angular art style, so that was fine, but this show is too round for rectangular irises inside oval eyes, so it just seemed out of place.

I didn't hate the sneak peek, but I didn't really like it either. I don't think it's as bad as modern FOP, but the characters weren't really doing it for me, and while there were a few jokes I liked, the humor wasn't really doing it for me either. I do plan to watch some more episodes before deciding if I'm going to keep up with this show or not, but my first impression isn't exactly favorable.

You stated a lot of what I was thinking when I first saw the show. It's been on Demand for a few weeks now, I watched it a while back & my first impressions were a lot like yours. Some of the humor actually managed to surprise me (SPOILER WARNING!) such as Bunsen being unsure what the sex of his invisible pet is given he can't see the parts. One other thing that I must question is if Butch has a bigger obsession with sporks than I do. I like sporks, it's my favorite utensil so the scene with Danny accidentally swallowing his spork when chewing like the wind inside a anti ghost zone in the episode Public Enemies stuck with me. Inside Bunsen's house, there were spork wielding gremlins, or were they trolls? To be honest, I only watched it twice. Anyways, I noticed the sporks right away & was like, SPORK! As for popularity, I'm apart of a few Danny Phantom groups, actually it was the first fandom I officially joined back in 2008. I watched the show ever since it aired in 2004, I just didn't know how to get an email address until I was 16 years old. Yeah, it's painful that five year olds are better at browsing the net than I was when I was a teen. Anyways, I can tell you that I know of a few people interested in seeing how this will go. They follow every little move Butch makes. You know those tiny little references towards Danny Phantom that Butch drops every now & then in FOP? The only one I can recall that got past these guys is when some kid that was a Dash look alike was in some horror movie Timmy was watching. All others like a Danny Phantom doll in FOP, had pictures spread everywhere in the group. I'm pretty sure these people will watch Bunsen & to be honest, I probably will too. When TUFF Puppy came out, I had my doubts but it was better than I expected it to be, still not the best but it wad alright. Out of all of Butch's shows, TUFF Puppy did have the best opening theme. Hey, don't attack me for claiming that, alright? FOP had a fabulous one that I will always love no matter what. Danny Phantom's...... while it is not only my favorite show from Butch Hartman, it is one of my all time favorite animated series so it pains me to say that it has my third favorite opening theme of Butch's shows. You can argue how cool it is & I enjoy it now but it had to grow on me. As someone who was a young kid in the 90's, lived my preteen & teen years in the 2000's, I was victim to the thought that most adults had of all kids now days only likes rap. As a 12 year old when this new show came out & watching it, I felt insulted by it since I hated rap with a passion & one thing I hated more than rap is the belief that you needed to play some funky rap music in order for the kids to actually like it. I did however adore the closing credit music & was sad when Nick all together stopped doing the end credits & was advertising over them. I like the idea of the theme sounding more like the Ghost Busters theme but that's just me, today I wouldn't change it one bit, it did grow on me but it took YEARS. As for why I like TUFF Puppy's theme song so much, it's basically the song Secret Agent Man & I'm like YES!!!!!!! Reference to song I grew up with since I always had a taste for my parents' music & none of that rap bull they expect me to like. I got sidetracked. Where I wanted to get at with the whole TUFF Puppy thing is that it different from Butch's other work like you pointed out but it's a fun, silly thing to watch when you need a little pick me up. Had a bad day? Just tune into TUFF Puppy to fix your mood. It was cute & had some nice jokes, I actually very much liked the Brady Bunch reference they did because it was like they knew this show was definitely more appealing to children adding in stuff that adults would get was a nice way to spice it up & being too young to understand it, I was proud of myself for catching it but then again, I always figured that the Brady Bunch was so mainstream that most people other than kids around seven or younger would get it but still, it's nice they're not totally avoiding these things. So yeah, hopefully Bunsen will prove to be something more than it has already shown. I'll sit through the first season as it goes & make my decision on what I overall think of it then but for now, I'll keep an open mind but not raise the hopes. Just keep that neutral so that it won't come off worse or better than it actually is.

I also watched the preview episodes recently, and I kind of have the same feelings as you do. The villain is especially annoying and rather generic. But even with that, I think it still has some things going for it: the animation is well-done, the monster designs are imaginative, and the relationship between the boy and Bunsen is starting off okay. Hopefully the show will improve over time and become its own thing, so long as Nickelodeon doesn't perform its usual, shady practices like with other shows.

I'm actually really curious about this show. :) I have a fondness for Butch Hartman and I respect that so far his shows have at least been pretty different. (Not going to judge for Bunsen just yet). I don't really want an episode for episode review, but maybe once the first three or so episodes are out I'd like to see your initial thoughts and hear some more thoughts if your opinion really changes past those initial episodes. It seems like Butch really has his heart in this so I wish him the best of luck and hope this goes well. I'd like to know enough to really understand what he's going for here, but from what I've seen I'm not expecting anything spectacular, nor am I expecting anything really bad either.

It’s good that someone is trying an art style that is different from previous shows (though the traditional Hartman style does look great in 2000s FOP and Danny Phantom) But not like this! I have not seen this show yet so I really don't have an opinion on it. The only thing I can say is I sincerely hope this show does well enough so Nickelodeon can finally put Fairly OddParents to rest and let it die with some dignity. Note: FOP premieres moved to the Nicktoons channel, which is usually a sign of the show ending soon. But considering the show has been dead and brought back twice, I'm taking it with a grain of salt XD

I grew up watching 90's Nickelodeon & I see signs of improvement in the network after many years of mediocre shows that got cancelled very quickly. I've watched a few episodes of Bunsen is a Beast & it's a decent show overall. I really like the colorful animation, not the best show in the world, but it's better than whats been showing on Nick for the past decade. Meanwhile The Loud House is what really got me back into watching Nick again! It's an incredibly great show that's funny, well written & very fun to watch over & over again! The latest episodes of Spongebob are better than they were in seasons 5-8, but I'm tired of that show now & it's been extremely overrated forever.

The show won't last. It's good don't get me wrong, but knowing Nickelodeon at this point, it's not gonna last. It literally only plays one time on both Saturdays and Sundays very early in the mornings, and it's barely even on Nicktoons. The only think Nickelodeon has been doing in the past few months is SpongeBob, Loud House, and their 4 modern Sitcom reruns. I'm not kidding, that's literally bascially it. Nothing else at all but SpongeBob, Loud House, and 4 sitcoms. There's absolutely nothing else aside that unless you love baby shows or Nick at Nite.

Okay so I watched both episodes of Bunsen is a Beast and I can say the show just seems okay speaking from first impressions. It's nothing too bad, but nothing too good either. Like you said I did get a major Fairly Oddparents and Phineas and Ferb vibe from it. And from what we've seen the characters are decent. Bunsen isn't really stupid, he's hyperactive and over enthusiastic. Which is a neat change from "Oh let's tell a bunch of character is stupid jokes". So I don't like it, but I don't hate it either. I'm just sort of in-between, and I can understand from the perspective of not liking it. I will admit some of the jokes involving Amanda were sort of funny at times. Also this show is probably not going to be nowhere near as bad as Modern Fairly Oddparents. Seriously Modern FOP is so bad, yes the show actually got worse after the "Big Fairy Share Scare" even down to their most important rule "The fact that fairies aren't suppose to be seen by people" being completely forgotten. FOP has sunk so low they completely ruined their most important rule. In all of the newest episodes Cosmo and Wanda can just be seen by humans and use magic with no consequence, even Poof was only confirmed to appear in 1 episode where he's not even the main focus of the plot and is only and excuse to be a meme/pop culture reference generator. (*Made evident in the episode "Certifiable Super Sitter" it also flanderizes Vicky to the maximum to the point where Timmy's dad has no idea who she is!*). Also ever since its moved to Nicktoons network all of their episodes are rehashes of Classic Fairly Oddparents (Seasons 1-5) and they serve no purpose other than to retell the same events through Chloe's perspective, and do them twice as worse! Chloe is also a lot more obnoxious. The show also keeps overusing Timmy's Dad to the point where he's absolutely pointless and serves no purpose other that to emphasize the fact he's a brainless moron. And all of his gags are basically Modern FOP's version of A Modern Family Guy cutaway. Knowing the fact Fairly Oddparents is in a state of unfortunate purgatory, I don't think Bunsen is a Beast will be of those levels. I'm just not expecting anything huge or exciting from it. But who knows it's only a first impression. Maybe the show will branch out or stay just okay, nothing to ride home about. It won't be as good as Danny Phantom though, it still remains as Butch Hartman's best show with Classic Fairly Oddparents (Seasons 1-5)

Timmys dad was always stupid

Yeah Timmy's Dad was always stupid and that's the joke. But the problem is how him being stupid is used. In fact in the earlier seasons there were times where Timmy's dad was a self aware parent, just overly busy. In Episodes like -Mighty Mom and Dino Dad -Father Time -Inspection Detection -Odd Jobs -The Crimson Chin Meets Mighty Mom and Dino Dad -The Grass is Greener -Ruled Out -Kung Timmy -Mother Nature -Abra Catastrophe -Channel Chasers Mr and Mrs Turner were shown as simply overworked parents who just couldn't be there for Timmy with some irresponsibility mixed in. I mean in the latter two episodes they actually try to become decent parents. (*And in the rest of those mentioned episodes they were portrayed as decent parents, getting onto Timmy for the sake of his well being, like making him keep his room clean, eating healthier etc*) And even in moments of Timmy's dad stupidity it was used in situations relating to the plot or his gags didn't really harm any of the plots structure (only finding them funny just amounted to the viewer experience). Now in every single episode past Season 7 not only does he steal screen time and even has some for that manner in place of Timmy, but his stupid jokes are used way too much. They never have a real point beyond being forced punchlines the writers want to use just to force in stupid humor. In Most Season 10 episodes, Timmy's dad has been flanderized to the point where he rivals a mentally challenged manchild. He isn't even able to go to a Supermarket because he drags things off shelves like a Young kid. And more often than not Timmy's Dad will serve no purpose in the episode but only be there so his humor can be forced at the audience due to his "Creator's Pet Status". Even episodes that center Timmy's Dad in Seasons 9 and 10 have gotten annoying due to his overexposure. I also have this same issue with Mr Crocker too with how Seasons 9 and 10 just keep overusing him and ruining his character. Yeah I mentioned all of those episodes from the earlier Seasons (Seasons 1-5) because it shows Timmy's parents used at their best and shows that they were just irresponsible and overworked, but they also showed they cared about Timmy to some extent. Even when they were stupid it wasn't by any means to effect or halt the plots but were more for jokes .And they weren't abusive, neglectful or overly moronic. (In fact both of them are pretty much Man/Woman Children)

I kind of in the same boat. There is definitely potential in the comedy but the show seems like it is just going through the motions much like his other shows. I think it may be the worst show Butch has made yet but as you put it Pieguyrulz there are worse shows on Nick.

I saw it yesterday and I thought it was pretty bad, but not as bad as Modern Fairly Oddparents. Though this is just a nitpick, but I hate Amanda's character design.

The only character I like to be honest is Amanda. Bunsen is okay but I don't show too much interest in him. As for Mikey, I hate him. He's so annoying with that whining voice. Like I'd expect a better character design in personality for him. I saw him as a average kid who is unpopular but instead he seems to be the most known to everyone. Eitherway the show is just okay.

This is my comment before I watched your video: The sneak peak is depressingly bad, the animation is horrible, the concept is horrible. Edit: now I've seen your video, I hear the Fairly odd parents sound effects now. Still not excited about this.
