good video, i like how you wrote on the same piece of paper to show all the different ways they look and we could easily compare them

I purchased my first 1.1 Stub nib TWSBI Diamond Mini and quickly ordered more! They are so much fun! Especially with shimmer inks. I just received my Kaweco Calligraphy set today, also with the black body. Now I’m researching, trying to see how to swap inked nibs between use.

Yes! I would like to try out a TWSBI stub nib next. XD They are so much fun to use. How are you liking the Kaweco nibs? I've been using my 1.1 and 1.5 the most. So I decided to put my 1.5 in my mint Kaweco. That way I wouldn't have to switch out the nibs. I'm also considering putting my 1.1 in a different Kaweco. I have so many choices! XD

I enjoy Italic handwriting and Italic calligraphy, so I use stub nibs every day. I have the translucent Violet Kaweco Sport that was a special edition with Galen Leather with a 1.1 nib, and there's no doubt 1.1 is the size I use the most from any brand. I would say the terminology is not standardized any more than nib sizes are standardized across brands, but in general I expect a stub nib to have rounded corners so that I can write quickly without snagging the paper, whereas a true Italic or calligraphy nib may have pointier corners, creating a crisper line variation but also more likely to snag if I'm not as precise with my nib angle. A stub nib is therefore more forgiving. But a lot of brands blur the line and use "stub" and "calligraphy" interchangeably. None of these are intended to flex but rather to provide line variation by the tip of the nib itself. The broader the nib, the more ink it puts down, and the feed may struggle to keep up with the really broad nibs which could be why it's not working well. Or there could be a little residual machine oil in the nib or feed. I think this set looks interesting and practical. Thank you for the review!

Thank you for explaining the differences. I completely see what you mean, I do feel like I have to be more precise when writing these nibs. And I definitely want to try out a stub nib soon. I missed out on the Galen Kaweco pens. 😊 Thanks for watching!

@@InsideKimmysMind I just remembered that Goulet Pens has a nice video on How To Write with a Stub Nib. They explain the mechanics involved, which I find helpful.

Those larger nibs are meant to write at a 45 degree angle

My favorite stub nib now is my TWSBI…but I had to work and work on it to get it where the edges weren’t so sharp. I need to get my Kaweco 1.1 stub nib out and use again. I did have a Pilot Metropolitan with a stub nib, but I gave it to a friend, hoping to get her interested in fountain pens; no luck on that. I hope to purchase a replacement Metropolitan with a stub nib someday. Try Taccia and KWZ and (lol) Vinta inks; I love them!

Thank you for sharing this! I’m thinking of trying the 1.5 so it was cool to see you compare them! I have a 1.1 stub in my twsbi and I really like it! I have no idea if stub and calligraphy nibs are different either 🤣 Ali x

Thanks so much for watching! I've been playing with the 1.1 and 1.5 the most. I'll try to keep testing out the other sizes, but I'm loving these. :D

You're not the only one who said the 2.3 is impossible.

For calligraphy pens you should hold the pen at a 45 degree angle rather than flat. Try that you might find it better.

hello - the caps are for made to store if the nib unit is inked (has an ink cartridge attached) instead of a pen cap.

1.1 is so good! I saw this set a few years ago but in my hands is a one huge blob of ink hahaha

So good!!! It has been so much fun to play with. So far, it hasn't leaked yet, and I ended up switching out nibs, so now my mint Kaweco has the 1.5. :)

Maybe look up Lloyd Reynolds' calligraphy series? The wider nibs would be suitable for italic-style writing.

I don't think it is user error that the larger nibs are not working for you, I am guessing the feeds are the same for all the sizes and they probably just can't handle the flow needed for these thirstier wider nibs 😢 I could be wrong, but I have been hearing about other artists having similar issues with these wider nibs too. Thanks for sharing 💕

Oh, that makes sense. Such a same, but I do feel better knowing it isn't something I'm doing wrong. Thanks so much for watching! :)

I have the same set and my 2.3 stub never works right. Same with the 1.9. 1.1 is my sweet spot but I go for 1.5 every once in a while for fun

Yes! I've been using 1.1 and 1.5 so far. I'm not sure why the other sizes are so iffy. I'll have to keep testing them out. Thanks so much for watching!

you have to try Medieval calligraphy which is more of a print type letter with a few curved lines here and there, buy a book on medieval calligraphy , stubs that large are not meant for regular everyday writing styles ok
