@@ronaldkorringa7218 Just listened to two songs of them. Definitively not bad, but there's not much innovation in there. Sounds like modern music tends to sound so often: polished and cleaned almost to death by pro-tools, click-tracks an so on. Also in comparison to LZ no big changes in the song (where's for example something like a jazzy middle part or an unexpected drum part or a rhythm change). I think too few modern bands have the courage to try something like that. Maybe "Tool" is one of the few bands that have the courage. Concerning LZ sound maybe Greta Van Fleet.

Lol. It’s only one drummer, and his name is John Henry Bonham! Definitely check out Moby Dick live too. Bring it on Home is based off a early 60’s blues song by Sonny Boy Williamson. At least the beginning of the song is but then they Zeppelinify it at the break. Amazing album. You can see why it overtook the Beatles Abby Road to close out the 60’s at number 1.

What a delight it is watching your reaction to this. Other's have explained this but your comment "What the hell was that!" during Heartbreaker made me laugh out loud. That was Jimmy Page doing his magic. I saw him do this live more than once, and he used to do most of that solo with one hand... you can see him do it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/enWkd2lugZ1nfdk Also. John Bonham was the only drummer on Moby Dick and if you were exhausted after listening to him do that for 3 minutes you should have been completely crushed into the dust by watching him do it for 20 minutes live. Something else to remember, the four musicians on this album were 26, 23, 20 and 20 years old when this was recorded...boy were we lucky growing up back then. I am so pleased to see someone of your age really appreciating what they were doing. I can only imagine how they must feel if they watch your videos. Keep up the great work.

Most of the time, if you're hearing 'strings', or other orchestral sounds, it's JPJ (John Paul Jones) on synthesizer. He was also the (brilliant) bassist and could play a whole load of different keyboards, including piano and organ. He was also brilliant on the mandolin. You can see why he was called Led Zeppelin's secret weapon! Robert Plant is arguably the greatest rock vocalist of all-time. Jimmy Page is arguably the greatest rock guitarist of all-time. John Bonham IS the greatest rock drummer of all-time. JPJ is often overshadowed by his 3 incredible band-mates but the truth is, without JPJ there wouldn't be a Led Zeppelin. At least not as we know it... AND he's arguably the greatest rock bassist of all-time AND one of the greatest rock keyboardists of all-time! :)

Led Zeppelin consists of 4 members. Robert Plant on vocals, Jimmy Page on guitar, John Paul Jones on Bass and keyboards, and John Bonham on drums. On Moby Dick, there is only one person playing percussion, and that is John Bonham himself. You were right in mentioning John's amazing footwork on the kick drum, but there is no 2nd person playing bongos. It is John Bonham playing the drum's rack toms with his bare hands (instead of using drum sticks). The first half of the drum solo was ALL John Bonham by himself playing his drum set with bare hands. The second half you can hear the change when he picked up his sticks and realy started to roll. The "violin" on "Rambl On was an electric guitar played with a glass slide on the neck.

The tapping you ask about on "Ramble On" is John Bonham playing the Tamblas a small drum like the Congas. The bassline is one of the all time greats by JPJ. Can I just say you're delight at listening to the the music puts a smile on my face. Great to see you becoming a fan of the greatest band to ever exist. I heard this album for the first time on my Heathkit stereo portable record player. After that, I heard it on transistor radios and increasingly expensive sound systems in my friends' basements and living rooms. Today, I'm hearing a digital version played on microelectronics into headphones. Emotionally, there is no difference!

Excellent reaction! Heartbreaker has such a fat, crunchy bass line! The guitar solo was an afterthought; the song was complete but didn't have a solo. Jimmy decided he wanted one so slotted this in. Living Loving Maid - none of the band liked this song and felt it beneath their standards. It's about an older groupie who used to follow them around New York. Ramble On - so melodic, almost idyllic - until it lands a solid punch and yes, it's the guitar, not a violin. Moby Dick was John Bonham's showpiece; he would switch from sticks to using his hands and the whole instrumental could go on for 20 minutes or more. Bring It On Home - believed to be influenced by Sonny Boy Williamson's song by the same name, but they make it their own by adding the hard, power punch after the harmonica. There is so much energy and talent on this album.

Robert Plant is a huge fan of the writings of JRR Tolkien. Therefore, the lyrics about Gollum are straight out of the Lord of the Rings. Many Zeppelin songs were influenced by JRR Tolkien. Check out: •THE BATTLE OF EVERMORE• “The pain of war cannot exceed the woe of aftermath, The drums will shake the castle wall, The ring wraiths ride in black, ride on.” •RAMBLE ON• “T'was in the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair. But Gollum, and the evil one crept up and slipped away with her, her, her....yeah.” Great stuff!!

Jimmy Page, the guitarist was well known for using a Bow on his guitar to get some of those wild sounds that might confuse you with other instruments! He did use a bow, but not on Ramble On. The technique is achieved by not muting the strings and allowing them to ring and sliding between notes.

14:24 Those sustained notes are two fuzz guitars tracks. Some fuzzes add a lot of sustain to a guitar it making sound violin-like. Probably with a Les Paul. 15:47 The reference to Mordor and Gollum is from Lord of the Rings. 20:10 Bonham played the drums here with his hands on the toms. He alternates between the toms and the bass drum. 25:44 This part is bass guitar and harmonic. And yes, that shuffle rhythm is heard in cowboy music and in blues.

Most of those commenting were about your age (or even younger) when "we" heard Zeppelin blow the whole music industry, and modern music right out of the door. It changes the way you listen, and what you start to expect of the next album you engage in. That is why the playlists from "our" youth included Genesis, Pink Floyd, Yes, Gentle Giant, JethroTull, Frank Zappa and a few more..... Musicians of excellence, composers of music that, to this day, is awe inspiring. There are a few others that I personally would suggest (from slightly later) from "our" musicians: Max Webster, Cano, Harmonium, Triumph, Offenbach, Gowan, David Wilcox, Rough Trade, The Spoons and of course the two that are the closest to me.... Lighthouse (great brass section) Rush ( possibly the greatest band our country has ever produced) I wish you joy with every track you get to hear, you will have literally years of music .... And as a last shot... #3 is a great acoustically leaning album but wait till Physical Graffiti.... Mind blowing. Bon chance mon ami.

What you're hearing is the actual sound of good (great) musicians playing their instruments onto tape, without digital manipulation (which has been done heavily since the mid to late 90s). The sound of an electric guitar into a tube amp with maybe a treble boost or tonebender is very different - and more full of life - than over-compressed and 'quantized' guitar we hear today - as you're discovering, ha ha. Jimmy Page was very influenced by the "1950s guitar sound", and you hear it in the big Heartbreaker solo (and throughout their albums). Great to see you enjoy the music that made ME want to play guitar!! There is a whole other world of awesome music out there, this is part of it. Enjoy!

John sometimes played drums with his bare hands. Jimmy sometimes used a violin bow on his guitar strings. JP Jones played his bass like a nice place to come home to. Always solid with tasteful embellishments and fills. Robert Plant's vocals, like a golden thread weaving it's way through the tapestry of each song the others presented as a band. Unforgettable !
