I'm also confused at people being this harsh to the devs for trying out a new direction instead of rehashing a blend of SC and WC3. Would something like Company of Heroes have been this poorly received if it had been made by ex-Blizz devs? I myself am hyped for Stormgate's final release, but let's not pretend it won't eternally be judged against SC2 and WC3 + criticized to no end for its lack of originality while this said screw it and just went in its whole direction. Sure here there's no base building, the maps so far are imo bland and critically lacking elevation, and the gameplay (for now) is deathbally, but this isn't Starcraft nor is it even trying to be! Yes the 10 minute timer at the top throws us off because "wdym 10 minutes??" but getting thrown off by new mechanics is often good. We're getting surprised here, when's the last time we were surprised by new mechanics in that genre? If anything it will bring new eyes to the RTS genre and anything we can do to revive the genre is a good thing because if there's money in it it means we can luck out with talented devs giving us something more up our alley and even have old favorites regaining new players! People saying this game is a bad thing for the RTS genre reeks of the same people complaining about SH2 getting a remake. Would a dead genre be better? Of course not; even if Stormgate and Battle Aces isn't our jam, it may lead to something down the road that will be. I myself won't be playing Battle Aces because I just love macro too much, but I hope that the game itself finds its niche and success, after all it's healthier than just nothing happening

Dito on this. Additionally some interesting points of interest on the map to fight over; a variation of map objectives on different maps. Playing with the concept of mingling RTS with MOBA, and drawing additional inspiration from sources such as Zone Control and Footmen Wars. And remove the 10 minute timer in favor of pushing the game length to naturally end around 10-15 minutes, retainkng the potential of longer games. Personally I’d also prefer some expanding on building alternatives. Such as branching out within a radius from a main building, with at least buffing nodes or defensive structures such as walls, or terrain control. Realisticly I wouldn’t expect the team to expand on features such as this.

While I was hyped for the game a little bit, the game seems to bring back the 1A problem. All armies are just blobbed up, the movement options are all so fluid too. And that's not even counting when air can just fly over the top. Also while both armies were standing around I realized there hasn't been any scouting shown in the game. If one side gets an advantage it can just camp out the rest of the round. As to the match itself, this team deserved to lose since they rarely stuck together, and then when the aggressive team that worked together stayed back they just got a tech advantage despite it being mostly the same economies and got rolled.
@lordlopikong69404 ай бұрын
I think the problem with games like this is that it doesn't have high value units. What makes starcraft2 and age of empires so good is the combination of grunt units(marines, spikemen, zerg lings, cavelry and etc) and unmassed high value units(ghost, trebs, vipers, templars, bbc and etc) Doesn't need to be hero units like warcraft(which in a way all units are all high value) but mini heros, starcraft2 captures this concept perfectly

As a classic RTS (C&C, SC2, WC3) fan this doesn't appeal to me at all. I love those games but on a more casual level. This game is more 'casual' in design on the surface but the fast pace of combat means it demands all the CPM and micro skills in combat that is a barrier to RTS without the fun of base building stuff (which yes, I find that fun). You also lose out on the campaign and excellent mission design. I think where this game shines is in Esports / Twitch potential. The minimap showing strategies and expansions makes this more interesting to watch casually to me than a SC game. I'm more in the loop as a non-hardcore viewer even if I can't follow everything. Its a better viewing experience. Maybe this finds a home or even dominates in that regard over time. This game has potential for sure and I want it to succeed...its just not for me.

@scottbruce74235 ай бұрын
@@TheMattman06 not a joke, and i do enjoy the macro. But the part that drew me in and truly keeps me in is the tactics and army movement. The macro in games like sc2 is more about execution than strategy, at least where I’m at which is D1 zerg. Did i scout properly? Did i make my workers on time? Did i keep macroing while getting harassed? Feels good when it goes well, but you just flat out lose if it doesn’t.

You could say the same about StarCraft, looks to me like there is about the same level of harass options in both, this game is just faster. Unit design and maps make the optimal strategy different but that seems like an easy lever to tweak. As people get better at it I'm sure you'll see more skilled multiprong and micro

@@TheMattman06 same with brood war. There aren't any aspects of sc1 design that are anti death ball that are not as easily applied to this game. The snowball factor is pretty big in both games too, but I think it's bigger in battle aces. At least in StarCraft there are a million ways to screw up.
