Smart system from DeWalt. Damn heavy though... put my back out lifting one of those units. Doesn't like staircases so only really works in workshops or commercial jobs when you have access to the maintenance lift. 👍😉

I run the 2 and 3 drawer dewalt system and a high quality trolley that I use on site. So I get out what I need and push the trolley about with the tools and fixing I need. Keeping it all together and mobile. Then reload at the end of the day.

I think they’ve missed the mark here. For the workshop I’d much rather build some drawers out of ply. For on-site, it’s far too big and heavy. I single deep drawer for the toughsystem for larger tools would have been a better option I think.

The 2.0 inserts don’t fit unless you take the bottom out of the dxl and/or take the black handles off the inserts…else…the handles get stuck when you close and open.

I have quite a few of the 2.0 drawers. Lots of design faults but you put up with it at around £100 per unit. But at least its sort of portable unlike this new lot. Stack more than 3 high even empty and the stack falls over. Do Dewalt see the 3d print tabs we all buy, make their own at cost and rectify it for us? No. Who on earth tested them and let that issue go? Stack more than 2 high and with any sort of weight in them, the bottom box drawers drag or won’t open because the carcass compresses. Try to clip them together, some will, some won’t. No single large drawer option so you either use something else for the larger items (even a makita multitool wont fit) or do what you had to do with the Ryobi nailers and buy another set of stuff just to fit then have to find more drawer space for the different batteries and charger. For the price its ok and we make do. The new stuff, as you say, is no good to most as its workshop bound. No good for loading / unloading. And at the price it is, theres lots of high end stuff thats better. I think with this stuff, drawers etc, they dont know their target market. They need a system in between the two thats better / stronger than the 2.0 but lighter / cheaper than this new stuff, use it in the workshop, take on site, back in the workshop etc. But then I’m just a customer with money and a workshop plus job sites making do with the standard 2.0 so what do I know!
@BradshawJoinery

I think the tough system drawers are great. Wouldn't want to be any bigger, but they should come without wobble and centre handles. If they had one fixed side latch like these too then perfect. This DXL is for more permanent use, in a workshop, vehicle or maybe warehouse /shop fitting.

Now that I'm retired, my mobile shop days are over...thankfully. All of my cordless tools I used in the field were Bosch Blue, which came in the Sortimo L-Boxx cases. I bought more L-Boxx cases for the rest of the tools, and it was a mobile kit only in the sense that I could load it in my car and take them with me. Moving the entire kit from the parking lot to the work site was never fun, but at least the L-Boxx cases didn't contribute much to the overall weight of the kit.

At some point you lift it though, in/out the van? Past the door threshold or steps. You aren't going to wheel anything from outside to inside in a finished house with nice floors. But this is more a commercial item I think. Warehouses/stores/ shop fitting etc

@@BradshawJoinery Yes, you choose the best system for your working conditions. This is meant to be a combined tool transport and workbench solution. Probably better suited to the US, where houses are more often of wood construction. In the UK we still build houses the way the Romans did- brick on brick, wood rafters and tiles. No real change in 2000 years. Whereas in transport...

For the price, size and weight, why not just buy a traditional metal tool box? Once I add tools to something like that, I’m gonna throw my back out trying to lift it, as I’m gonna have trouble moving these from a van or truck across dirt or gravel. Maybe these could work with a fork truck but it’s plastic and you’ll bust it. I just see a very niche use for these. They look very wide and difficult to get through doors as well. Let alone stairs. There’s some things that need to change with the Dewalt Toughsystem and I can tell they’re starting to address those issues but this looks like a massive miss imo. And for the price you can be fully integrated into almost all the other systems.

@@BradshawJoinery Very true, and for video content it was an interesting watch. However, for the price of that two drawer box I'd expect a more 'bang' for my buck! I mean, it may be well made but it's definitely overkill for two very slim drawers; part of a system or not. And I wouldn't fancy carrying that around site not to mention the other parts required to make it a useable site piece. Confession time - I do use Second hand Festool systainers for my Makita / DeWalt tools.
@Tensquaremetreworkshop
@Tensquaremetreworkshop 6 ай бұрын
@@gillie-monger3394 Festool Systainers are the most expensive, least robust toolboxes with the poorest internal volume to size ratio. Not waterproof (3 point fixing) whereas De Walt TS is actually air tight... The centre lock system takes space from a critical area- preventing handles until latest version- which is still a poor handle compared to the competition. Drawers are v poor, compared to metal roller system (DW &Milw.) They are also too small. As an engineer, I regard them as a complete design fail. Milw. has the best integrated design, DW second- and they offer two complete systems, to suit budget and use profile. BTW, you do not carry a DXL - you wheel it. That is why it has wheels...

@@Tensquaremetreworkshop fyi - I got 10 boxes for £30. I can afford to take a chance on a couple breaking! And no, I wouldn't buy them new. The only Festool that I own is again, a second hand domino cutter, (£50), I bought from the same guy who sold me the boxes. He works only from his workshop and the boxes had been sitting in his lock up, empty for years. Also, three DXL is a way over priced, over hyped rip-off.

@@gillie-monger3394 10 for £30? about what they are worth. At least he kept them in a lockup- many decorate their workshops with them. They even keep tools in them- making them very inaccessible (several steps to retrieve.) If you think this system is overpriced, just look at the Festool MFT.
