Putting this in a router table is a great idea. Might have to think about doing that in my upcoming router table build.

Not sure if you would need a 4 bearing model but you would barely hear it and be able to make a nice sealed dust collector adapter. I am thinking about a mortise machine with one if this works good. Thanks for watching.

@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 Indeed! It would be a luxury that I might be willing to indulge in! If you search for "George Carlson Router Lift" on KZbin, he has a brilliant example of using one with an Arduino-based, stepper motor lift. Keep us updated on a Mortiser project, that will be special!

Hi I've just brought the same components. Did you wire it up to be controlled by software and if so do you have a wiring diagram. Thanks
@unemployedredneckhillbilly20232 жыл бұрын
Yes I did. I don't remember the exact wiring but the Masso controller instructions had a similar VFD and I used that. The pamphlet with the VFD also lists the input and output connections. Any questions contact your machine controller manufacturer before turning anything on. Thanks for watching.

very cool will you run the water through a radiator coil with a fan for cooling the water down? then to the storage bucket for further cooling?
@unemployedredneckhillbilly20234 жыл бұрын
I don't plan on a radiator. I think a bucket on the cool floor will be enough. If not I am thinking some solid state cooling modules on an aluminum block with a small reservoir. Thanks for watching.

I have a three phase grinder from Dayton and I have to convert it to I guess single phase 220 I have no manual for it I have the same one you have in this video mines a 1.5 I guess I tried to blow your pictures up but couldn’t see where the three wires coming from the 220 plug in the wall would go and where do I put the three wires coming out of the machine to my grinder could you show a better picture of that or at least send it to me ? I would greatly greatly appreciate any help

I do not know. If your spindle is 400hz 3 phase you should just be able to reprogram the vfd parameters. Contact the seller and see If they can help you. Thanks for watching.

Great video! A bit late to the game, but could you elaborate on how you safely grounded the spindle even though you only had a 3-wire cable?
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 Жыл бұрын
I have a #12 ground cable hooked to the Z carriage the spindle mount is bolted to. Provides ground and helps with electrical noise.

@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 thanks for clarifying!
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 Жыл бұрын
There is also another ground on the x carriage. Bearings are not good grounds so all components are tied back to the frame ground. Helps with electrical noise from things like spindles also.

I would look for a manufacturer name and part number then look up for a manual that shows the hookup and programming to be safe. They all seem to use different terminals and have different program values to get operating without damaging anything. Thanks for watching.

I think you may have the spindle wires switched. You can also switch directions in the setup program. Contact the manufacturers of your spindle and drive to get the instructions for wiring and drive setup.

I just went with 16/3 unshielded and kept it seperate from the other wires as far as I could. Used a seperate ground wire to the z near the spindle mount so there wouldn't be a loop back to earth ground. So far no problems. I read different things about that 4th ground wire and decided to try this first.

torque ? is it a concern?
@unemployedredneckhillbilly20234 жыл бұрын
This one is rated at 3hp at 8 amps and 24000 rpm. It is a 2 pole 3 phase motor rated at 14 nm or about 10.3 ft pounds of torque at top rpm and the torque will be less at lower rpms. I think from about 15k to 24k the torque is fairly good. I understand the VFD can crank it up to 9 amps for short periods of time. Below that it drops off and this can only be run for short periods when you get down to 8k. For cutting wood I am not worried with the chip load but for steel you would have a big issue with the lower rpm limits. I will find out but from videos that I have seen i doubt it will be an issue. I have not been able to find good data sheets on this combination. Thanks for watching.
