I've been noticing some problems with my 8 recently and this video just happened to come across my feed at 2:45 AM and I found out EXACTLY what was wrong with my 8! I was afraid that my engine was starting to die because I noticed a significant loss in power, shaking at idle, and high fuel consumption. I bought a new starter hoping that would fix the flooding issue and give my car a much needed little pick me up (which it most definitely did. I'll never complain about a new starter). Come to find out, I just needed to mess with the ignition a bit, and now she runs like new! Very informative video. Long live the Greek god!

It will be my second car and i'm afraid of not being able to do everything you suggest myself. And i also don't want to trust any random person at a repair shop to fit everything for me if i can even find someone who can work with RX8. Maybe i should just get it and try my best :D Lots of info from you and probably over the internet. Thank you for your content!

Greddy oil pan. The OEM oil pan is made of thin steel and the mating surface flange can easily warp upon removal. It also rusts in regions in snow belt. It is not cheap (U.S $450 or so) but is worth the money for those who plan on keeping their RX-8 for a long time. The Greddy oil pan is aluminum alloy, and is roughly 6-7mm thick. Unless one really forces it with a screwdriver, it will not bend. It also has a few heat sink fins, allowing the oil to run a bit cooler than the OEM oil pan. It does not rust out as easily as the OEM. Aluminum can still rust, but it is usually superifical powder form. The only metals I know that don't rust are titanium, stainless steel which is already in the similar condition as rust, gold or any metal that is in 100% pure condition.

Nicely done Driven.... a solid bunch of advice there. the cooling mod can be done with an ECU Reflash so no need to buy the relay kit you mentioned. however you need to find somewar that can do the ECU programming. We are working on a process to do it via the post.

I have a 2005 mazda rx8 and limited on money so to keep my rx8 running, you can use thicker oil that won't burn as fast and lubricates. You can check based off the temps in your region and if you need to go to 5w-30 or 10w-40. Also I recommend Black halo racing ignition system, it has performed well and kept my rx8. The first gen engines would go out due to crappy ignition systems and creating internal problems arcing.

Hey man I think I asked you a question before about my rx8. Today I was driving it and when I got home I was turning it off when I seen white smoke from the passenger under the hood. I turned the car off and looked and I can't tell if it's coolant or oil. There's a huge puddle under the car The oil looks good but can't fully tell what it is. No smoke out the exhaust any advice?
@Drivenbymadness
@Drivenbymadness 6 жыл бұрын
Could be a coolant leak. If you have an oil leak, your engine bay will be still oily. Usually coolant makes a lot of smoke when it come in contact with a very hot surface. So i would check the coolant hoses and make sure they dont leak. You can turn on the car on a dry area, and observe from the front, where is the leak coming from. Once you see something dripping on the ground. look it up and trace the path :)

I would recommend also investing in a Cobb Accessport or in the Mazdaedit tuning program. This allows your ecu to adjust for every single mod you attach to your car allowing for maximum performance and fuel effeciency. An added bonus is the ability to completely wipe CEL codes for those of us that need to pass emissions but want midpipes. Downside to this is that the Cobb Accessport for the Rx-8 has not been in production for years so you'll have to find a used Accessport from someone on eBay or Rx-8 club and anywhere else.

Could you please explain which year RX 8 is series 1 and after which year starts series 2. Right now I'm looking at 3 rx8's 2004 231 HP, 2007 250 HP and 2008 231 HP are they all series 1? I drove one from 2005 a week ago and fell in love after 5 minutes now I want to buy and maintain one as a daily driver.

G.M Ad series 2 is from 2009 to 2012 :) thats great, im glad you liked it 😊😊😊 series 1 rx8's are also good, but the earlier models have a bit more issues, but nothing that dramatic. If you can go with 2006+ models

Hi ! What kind of oil are you using for your RX8 ? Is the Dexelia Ultra w5-30 good for the engine ? or is there something else which is better. Also, by installing the Shone Adapter, it will handle the 2 stroke oil injection right ? and will not be needed anymore to do premix in the gas tank ? You mentioned at some point that after installing the Shone Adapter you can use full synthetic oil.. so, if you have 2 stroke oil injected you can use synthetic oil, although just mineral or at least semi-synthetic ?
@Drivenbymadness
@Drivenbymadness 6 жыл бұрын
Vasile Costinel Ciucardel im gonna make.a while video on ehats the best oil.for.the rx8. The 5w30 is a ok-ish oil, but not the best. The sohn adapter just changes what oil is being injected, not the quantity, so you still need to premix :) yes, after sohn adapter you can use fully synthetic oil, ause it has superior lubrication over mineral and semi synthetic. I would suggest to wait untill my oil video :)

Wanted to ask for an opinion because I'll change the engine this days on my RX8, and what I've used before was Dexelia Ultra w5-30.. wanted to see if I can get a better choice because I don't want to have problems again with this engine.. read some info on the Essex Rotary site and they do not recommend the Dexelia Ultra w5-30, and from what I've understood better to use is a mineral oil w15-40, or w10-40, or the Idemitsu Racing w10-30, which cannot be found in Romania.. also cannot find the Idemitsu Premix.. and was looking for any better option or any reccomenadation. I don't have installed a Sohn Adapter on my RX8. Do I have a better option in a w15-40 mineral oil, or w10-40, or should I stick to Dexelia untill I'll can get something better.. I'll try to get also some Idemitsu Premix probably.

And the fact that this is absolutely guaranteed to happen within 150.000 kms (but probably sooner than that) Also, didn't you already do a video like this one?

Programmer 5. coil packs if for some weird reason you want more than 10k rpm witch is not recommended. 6. underdrive pulleys. I'm surprised you didn't start with tires. The stock tires are so slippery in wet conditions that they are almost unsafe. I think if you have a first generation built for '06 or later though your starter will probably still be quite good as they upgraded it to be more reliable.

Instead of the fan kit, I'd suggest (for bigger budget) to just get a Koyo rad. That way you eliminate 2 w/ 1. You get a thicker rad, better heat dissipation, and you also get a full aluminum rad, which means the plastic components of the OEM rad don't pose a problem anymore. My rad had a massive leak due to one of the plastic components cracking. I would also add the AEM Cold air intake to beginner's mods ;)
@Drivenbymadness
@Drivenbymadness 6 жыл бұрын
Great suggestions and i couldn't agree more on the Koyo rad radiator, and i can't wait to install it. But as you've said, "bigger budget", so that's what i'm waiting for :) But i see first time mods, as simple yet effective mods, that are affordable and relatively easy to install for the average beginner. The intake is a great mod, especially for the sound you get, but it all comes down to what's the goal of the build. If it's performance, then definitely, full exhaust, CAI, radiator, coilovers etc... but in my own experience, the cai was of secondary importance. Again, it all depends on the point of view, mine was practicality and efficiency :)
@Snoopi25
@Snoopi25 6 жыл бұрын
My idea when modifying my 8 (other than performance) was for the longevity of the motor. I tried giving it as many supporting mods as possible to help the engine breathe. That's y I added the Cold Air Intake on my list ;)
@Drivenbymadness
@Drivenbymadness 6 жыл бұрын
And it was a good choice, i added one too, but i still have that annoying sound coming out of it... You have it too ? I'll try and figure out how to get rid of it ( if it's possible to get rid of ).
