Car driver decides to not exit the round about at the last second giving me almost no reaction time. Luckily came away with no broken bones but very sore ribs and a few bruises.

+lenard ggor It happens regardless of how severe things are too, and it's worldwide. In Canada, a girl pulled out in front of me and my car was pretty wrecked, airbags and all, radiator fluid everywhere, steam, bodywork crushed into the wheel etc. People were still honking at us even though the vehicles were clearly disabled.

+DemocracyOfHypocrisy the writing is pretty much telling you where the lane you're in leads you on to. and the arrows say if you take a left exit, go straight on or turn left, once you're used to them they're really simple. the lane the rider was in allows left turns and straight on, the one the driver was in is left turn only and the driver tried to go straight, the driver is 100% at blame

+Jack Burton One of the things that looks confusing to me is on the roundabout there were white dotted lines crossing each other. Don't see that here. And the zig zagging lines on the two lane road. In the US, a divided road will have a yellow double or solid line in the middle telling you that's oncoming traffic. When there is no yellow line you can generally ride in both lanes. Strange to see nothing but white on the road.

@DavidB445
@DavidB445 8 жыл бұрын
+dangeroushobo Car was at fault. The lane he was in does have to exit and clearly changes direction at the last minute, sudden movement of the car. Take a look at the road markings, both lanes lead to the A52 meaning the left lane cannot keep going around as it would cut off the right lane, the lane the biker is in.. Left lane should only go 1st or 2nd exit.. all other exits you must be in the right hand lane...
@mattballam
@mattballam 8 жыл бұрын
Not all roundabout markings tail off to each exit, in fact most don't, you are supposed to know when safe to exit, and the motorcycle had every right to. There are 2 lanes on the adjoining road so both outside and middle lanes may both join, just watch the three cars in front of the bike, they all join just fine. The car is at fault.
@RevvedUpBiker
@RevvedUpBiker 8 жыл бұрын
The car changed his course. It is the cars fault. At first glance you may think it's the bikers fault but it isn't. The biker could have helped himself by staying at the same flow rate as the nearby traffic, and only accelerate when you know your exit is fully clear.
@RevvedUpBiker
@RevvedUpBiker 8 жыл бұрын

Tim Mason People do stupid things. I never go much faster than the moving traffic on a roundabout simply because people don't always indicate right and then suddenly change their mind and just cut straight across. It shouldn't take that much experience, you just need common sense. The rider could have reduced his risk.

+Cyclingbikingtrucker Both are equally at fault in my opinion. Car is at fault for changing his mind and coming back into the lane, motorcycle is at fault for cutting across two lanes. If you want to turn left off a round-about you need to be in the left most lane. This is the same if you're turning turn normally, you need to be in the left most lane. The motorcyclist was in the right lane, and cut across the left lane to turn left. Both at fault.

If you don't assume everyone in a car is a moron, these totally-avoidable crashes will happen over and over and over again. I'm sure this experience will make him a better rider. You gave yourself no reaction time at all - I'm not saying you were the one to blame for the accident, but you really should have kept your speed down until you had a clearway, not accelerate off a roundabout when others were still on it, that's just asking for bother and broken bones - again, not saying it was your fault, it wasn't, it was the car driver to blame - but your bones aren't protected by a metal box unlike the car driver so it's up to you to ride as though your life depends on it - cause it does !!

First of all, I'm not from the UK, but we have a lot of roundabouts with multiple lanes here, too. So when I went to the UK for vacation I thought I'd be fine taking them as I would here. This thought changed abruptly when I enterd the first roundabout.... I figured I'd stick to my lane and be alright, but it wasn't that easy. Eventually I looked it up, watched videos etc. to find out how they work. I got it now and can say the car was in the wrong, but in most other countries he wouldn't have been in the wrong.

Not his fault at all u took an illegal lane switch to go to an exit. bikes r treated like cars on the road. And if u were in a car u wouldn't have been trying to do the and probably would totalled one or both cars.That red car in front of u is kinda being wreckles as the lanes ur in r a 1 way street and both lanes u can go straight but only the left lane is for the exit. Although I'm from Canada so I don't know for sure but logically if ur looking at this it doesn't make sense for u to wanna just intercept through a lane for an exit. Doesn't make sense to me
@Delogros
@Delogros 6 жыл бұрын
No he didn't, his lane went onto the exit so what are you talking about? if you are still confused look at the like 6 cars in front in his lane that also take the exit to join the main road, now the car driver however did make an illegal lane split. Again, look at all the cars in front of him (and read the markings on the road while your at it), what are you talking about?... I have to assume your from a country that doesn't do roundabouts. Nope, both lanes are for the exit... it's to a main road and is why more or less all the vehicles involved are going that way, the left lane MUST take the exit, the right lane can EITHER take the exit or carry on around the roundabout.

As a rider I have to say the bike was at fault.First, it is clear that the car was in the lane first. Yes, no signal and a late turn but still was there first.Second it's clear the bike was following the trajectory of the red car in front of it, which was to go from the far right lane, across the lane where the collision occurred and off to the left.With the car in the lane first and the bike accelerating (incorrectly assuming the car was staying left), the bike was at fault.

The car driver was obviously in the wrong for the lane discipline, observation & signalling. But at the same time we should always try to ride with a bigger margin than that at roundabouts and junctions. Totally avoidable - no need to be closing the gap like that at an exit, even if it is reasonable to expect the car in front to stay in lane. I've had similar accidents and I think it is important for us riders to realise that whilst in an ideal world car drivers will notice us, the truth is that modern cars have huge blind spots (thick pillars for cabin safety) and bikes are small, quick & in unpredictable road positions & not all car drivers are attentive. It frightens me how much faith some riders put in car drivers to act predictably or to have seen/considered them. Ultimately we are responsible for our own safety and must always expect the worst from other road users if we expect to remain safe. I'm not having a go at the rider - I think most riders with any miles have had an off like this one. But also have to be real, blaming car drivers for their mistakes doesn't make us any safer and we can all be a bit safer on the road, usually just a little bit more patience and space is all we need. Thankfully it looks like a hot bath and a trip to the garage should sort it all out. Take care out there guys.

+Jack Wheatley Read their comment again. He agrees that the car driver is wrong, as will anyone with half a brain that can read road markings and by applying a bit of common sense. Who's right and wrong is meaningless if it's fatal. Just because it's not your fault doesn't mean it wasn't avoidable. I'd rather have 1 accident that was my fault than 5 that weren't...

+Owen Wales It seems I had replied to the wrong comment. I actually agree with what he's saying. It's the drivers fault but the biker could have handled the situation better and avoided the colision. We all can see how the rules of the road work, even if they are a bit different country to country. The car driver should've stayed in the left lane, but the biker could've easily avoided that also. Besides, it looks like he went down before he touched the car. Simply inexperienced. Any driver who knows what to do would've swerved right by them.

My strategy when driving is to assume that anything that could possibly happen - will happen sooner or later. Other drivers running the red light, unexpected sudden lane changes, pedestrians/bikers/kids/animals jumping out of nowhere... I'm driving all around the EU for almost 15 years and had 5+ major accidents avoided, 50+ minor accidents avoided and still 0 actually happened because I was alert and ready. People say to me that I'm lucky, but no, it has nothing to do with luck. Extrteme caution is what saves you.

I've got my license, I'm a US driver, and I can say with absolute certainty that the fault is entirely on the driver of the car. You just have to think of everything in a flipped manner in this circumstance, where the car may be on the right side taking a right exit. They did not exit, but the person in one lane over (who is allowed to go straight) continued down their course, resulting in a collision. The person driving the car is at fault, there is simply no discussion.

+Martin Broski I dunno, I still don't see it. Lane-splitting or not, when I look at the road markings, it looks to me as the outside lane has a choice in exiting or going straight. It also looks to me that the person in the inside lane must stay and continue through the roundabout. We have roundabouts here and lane-splitting here California too. As a motorcyclist myself, I would not even consider exiting from the inside lane *UNLESS* there is clear signage that it is a protected lane that must exit. But perhaps you guys are right. When I see the red car and several ahead exiting from the footage, maybe it's legal - though I don't get it.

The bike was taking the inside(middle) lane to the exit, which is perfectly legal because the main rule of a round-a-bout which disallows you to continue through the circle from the third outside(exit only) lane. The car had already departed onto the third(exit) lane and changed his mind mid way and pulled back across lane 2 without indicating to get back into the circle pushing the bike out of his rightful place. If the rule wasn't broken by the driver of the car, traffic would have flowed seamlessly.

Watching it a few times then you realize that it was no ones fault but flaw of design in the traffic direction. It happens everywhere. Both are turning lanes but one is an optional straight. Yes the car hesitated causing the Bike to run into him but it is a simple misjudged timing matter. Had the bike been a second or so behind it all could have been avoided. Wow! I have driven in Europe, Brazil and the US and this intersection is very confusing. Roads are suppose to be universal so people understand the rules of the road. The road starts off with three lanes with the left lane exiting before crossing an intersection and converting to two lane with a third lane appearing directly after the intersection to become an entrance road connecting directly to a double lane fork in the road with a bend in it. That's a recipe for disaster. The guy in the silver car is in the left lane and the guy in the red car was in the right lane and they converged into the middle lane. If that red car was going a little slower he would have been in the accident. There are no arrows showing the way. The guy in the silver car should have been in the middle lane if he wanted to turn right. You can see him looking at the biker before colliding into the biker.
