@@LawnTips well, you've put pressure on the bed knife first before putting paste on which is direct metal on metal contact, big no no, especially if you have edgemax/carbide edged blades. Paste is too thin/wet, looks thinned out with water and not glycerin based thinner, will flick most off, need a nice bead on the trailing side/reliefed side that sticks. Wasn't lapped long enough because you had reel to bed knife contact at the end(quite a bit imo) if you lapped for a good 10-15 minutes you have zero contact because the edge will cut your fingernail(how I gauge it) and you can never lap too long as your reel to bed knife gap will never get bigger than the thickness of the grit you use. I want to get into making videos on the mechanic side of golf stuff as I'm a course mechanic and I see a lot of misleading lapping videos on KZbin. Sharpness is absolutely critical to cutting quality and an initial basis for disease control

I’ll admit I did put pressure on there by bringing the reel to the bedknife at the start then wet it with water. From there I then applied paste (which isn’t watered down p.s. just needed a good mix up (which I did) I never add water to the paste. I spent 20mins on it mate, as you can image I cut a lot out. This reel is now 4 years old since it’s had a proper grind unfortunately and it’s at the point where even if I backlapped for a 30-40mins it still wouldn’t cut paper without a tiny bit of contact. Also the sound you heard at the end when cutting paper was some leftover paste which I had washed off afterwards. Always good to learn how others do it though. Everyone does things slightly differently in the turf world

Fair call, I guess it wasn't a start to end video on backlapping. Like mix ya grit prior etc explanation. The end makes sense, if there's any left on the reel it does make a racket. If it hasn't had a relief grind in a while it does tend to make it near impossible to backlap, I see a lot of courses forgo relief grinding and just opt for a spin grind but if you think about it, if there's no relief how can the reel scoop the paste over the front edge of the reel blade end to sharpen it. All good bro, no hate, just a gripe, I get a lot of the young blokes just appearing in the washdown bay backlapping and they've never done it before without asking and yeah. Maybe I've got PTSD from fixing it all the time hahaha 😅
