We're the same age. At the time of the Fair, we were living in Jackson Heights, a couple of stops away. We rode a Mustang in the Ford Pavilion. One day, we went out of our apartment and saw a spanking new Red Mustang in front of the building. Our doctor had gotten one of the first ones to hit the showroom. My dad was sooooo jealous!

Happy 57th to my favorite car. It’s so much more than a car though. Most of my friendships are thanks to the Mustang circle. It’s a hobby and a passion. I still smile every time I put my foot down and hear the roar of the V8. Happy Birthday!!!

Fifty years ago today world's first pony car -- the Mustang -- galloped on to the streets. What started out as a secretary's car was soon transformed into a boy toy and it's been going strong ever since.

@VK West The fact that you even call the Barracuda a Pony Car is hilarious, as that category's name acknowledges the Mustang as the dominant sales leader & innovator. But you can brag about your 'Cuda being the first Fish Car. 😄

Well, what do you know? It was introduced on my 9th birthday! I don't remember too much about the original Mustang, but I remember the jingle for the '68: "Only Mustang makes it happen, only Mustang makes life great, Mustang moves you, Mustang grooves you, Mustang, Mustang '68!" I think the ad agency would be proud.

I know, that's one of the things I noticed when I moved back to California from Michigan --- all of the 60s and some 50s cars that were still on the road. No rust. Road salt is rust's best friend. But it brings people back to the dealerships every few years to replace their rusted heaps.

My father sold one of the first mustangs in 64 from Sherrill Minter Ford in Kansas city MO., I was 10 when he brought one home and took me on a very scary ride. Three years later he moved to New Carlisle In. And got his own chevy dealership. soon after I helped him unload cars from a carrier and one car , a blue Camaro caught my ear. I opened the hood and it said 302. I thought , well hell this is smaller then a 307, why does it sound like this? The inventory sheet said rpo z28. Well, I soon realized what the difference was after running it around the block.

Some pilot from Canada bought Mustang number 1 that was not supposed to be sold. White convertible. Ford ended up buying it back from him two years later. In the Henry Ford museum. As far as who actually first took delivery, it's hard to say.

Very smart marketing on the part of Ford being that the largest birthrate of "boomers" of the post WWII era were turning 18 in 1964. I rememeber the New York World's Fair of 1964-65 as if it were yesterday. This film is just beautiful! Yes, it looked just like that in living color, not crappy black & white.

I remember the Mustang Commercials and the worlds fair, my brother and I were only 4 years old. Our Dad always promised to buy us a Mustang. As time went on, the joke became...."I'll buy you a 64 Mustang when you have a drivers license". By 1976, these first year Mustangs were rather pricy used cars. Dad never did come thru on that Deal! lol We forgave him...lol But we always reminded him lol

@@gertraba4484 I came across this again as someone on Facebook posted a 1965 and a half model. I corrected that issue. The 260 CID engine was installed in the first 75 Carroll Shelby AC Cobras in 1962. After that the 289 was put in those cars. So when the Mustang came around about two years later, Ford may still have been using the smaller block. Or this was a very very early prototype - not sure about any of this.
